  1. Summer hasn't been too bad. Even today, which was for July cool in the South East, i was fine out of doors wearing just a t shirt and jeans. As i have been since the start of April. I've had weeks where i could wear shorts Not what i would call dreadful . we've had weeks and weeks of "weather resmbling summer" this year. It's been lovely. Sure - not hot - but very use able and a joy to be outside in the fresh air, most days.
  2. been quite a reasonably day. some sun up to this evening. feels like we're on the edge of the bad weather though as dark skies to the south east.
  3. i must be living in a different country. we've had some off days but some lovely periods most days too. the sun's belting this evening here. This summer has been nothing like 2007, not here at least, that summer we barely scraped 20 degrees for weeks on end, and there was little in the way of sun. A sense of perspective is required. Anyway back to the models. looks like a reasonably settled and warm in any sun, week ahead. next weekend is ages away. just get out and enjoy the pleasantness - not a heatwave, just an average british summer.
  4. i find all this wailing and suicidal postings bizarre to be honest, they are ruining the model thread. some people really need to get a grip and realise they live in the UK not the mediterranean. It rains every month, and if you get 2 dry weeks together at any time of the year in the UK, then you consider yourself lucky. This is NORMAL. Similarly with temps. 18-24 degrees with a little sun and an odd showwer is an entirely normal pattern and average across the UK in summer... it doesn't mean summer is written off. expecting month long 25-30 degree spells throughout the UK are in the realm of fantasies. posts from northern ireland and western scotland moaning about rain? well. hate to let you down , but it is sort of prone to this kind of weather there. get used to it or move, and stop moaning.
  5. all in all it's not been bad in the south east, and the charts look as if this north / south split will continue. some rain in the south, yes, but overall quite pleasant.
  6. Oh come on , it's not so bad. we've had months of lovely weather, and a few days of rotten ( and even that has featured some sun, esp in the south east). A few 10 -12 degree days in June is not unknown. I always almost expect the first 10 days or so of June to be very dodgy indeed - a lifetime of observations - and so it seems this year!
  7. wet and increasingly windy here now . a nasty evening but we havent had many this spring /summer so it still feels like a novelty !
  8. no - haven't had the heating on since mid March. Good old London town! It won't go back on again til mid November. It's cool out but i have a well insulated flat.
  9. Its been a beautiful summer's day in London, i was out in the warm sunshine at 9am and have enjoyed being out in the garden all day. Clouding over now, rain may be on its' way but its been a decent bank holiday weekend here , despite the doom mongers saying it would be rubbish.
  10. and it seems a 2 week 29 degree heatwave is on the way..... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1387492/UK-weather-2-week-heatwave-forecasters-predict-hottest-May-350-years.html
  11. i grew up in w yorks and there were always fire bugs around in dry summers, as well as accidental fires. it is always teenage boys being stupid who set blazes - nearly always happens in the shcool holidays - note that the forest fire in Bracknell was set 8 days ago when the kids were still off school. they think it's a laugh, and then it gets out of control in seconds, it's frightening. people could be burnt to death if a large blaze took hold in a strong wind. the countryside is like a tinder box at the moment.
  12. another sunny spring day............. must be about the 40th in a row!
  13. people are falling into the trap of looking for the breakdown, but in reality there's still none to be seen. it looks like continuing warm and sunny for many right through next week.
  14. this is so true. I was cycling home this evening having to literal;y pinch myself that this wasn't July. We've gone from early spring to high summer very quickly and all the flowers are really well on. It's felt summery all month. It's totally freaky. I felt like an idiot when i started watering the lawn on 10th April after weeks without rain, thinking it would probably rain the next couple of days I'm glad i did though now - no rain looks like falling all month. I am also in the "there will be payback" camp though - still burned by 2007......... enjoy the summer now guys - this might be it!
  15. April and September seem to be the months which have changed the most over the years. this year's spring has been freakily perfect in the south east. we've just had weeks of endless sunshine.
  16. snowless winters ( as in none laying on the ground) are not unknown in london thought we nearly always get a few flakes each year. however this year we've had no flakes or lying snow, the last time we saw snow was on Christmas Day, and falling snow on 22nd December. strange winter.
  17. Let's hope that this spring / summer follows the trend of the years since the appalling summer of 2007, when a marked south east/ the rest split has developed, and the warm sunny weather extends a bit further north this year! the last few years ( in London at least from a sun & heat perspective )have followed what could be an improving trend.... 2007 - dreadful 2008 - dodgy 2009 - ok 2010 - fairly reasonable 2011 - good?
  18. had fun driving up north saturday morning, the M1 was very snowy and dangerous north of sheffield. then a couple of inches on the pennines, sadly it was all wet and soggy though wasnt it?!
  19. i was up in yorks at the weekend and enjoyed probably the last snow of the winter up there. felt like spring snow ,though , a couple of inches of extremely soggy wet mess!
  20. cheers swamp donkey. i am going to be up to around 300m. could be fun and games!
  21. When is the snow likely to arrive? I am driving up to Yorkshire from London in the morning from 6am, should hit BD area around 9am. Lucky i have my snowchains!
  22. looks like winter's on the way out, a cool blip next week but really not that cold then mild again after the weekend. my daffs are nearly out and the forsythia is coming into flower - beautiful! Bring on Spring!
  23. Look around you. The days are lengthening, the grass is growing , its beemn 11 degrees for ages, the birds are active. Deep winter is over. Spring is coming. Flowers are poking up. In another 10 days the sun will be noticably more powerful and sany snow we do get is likely to be short lasting. No cold weather is being shown in any period up to 20 Feb. So that is it for this winter, as far as i can see. Just over 2 weeks until "Spring Weather Discussion" banner starts
