    Anything is better than the mild benign dross so far this winter, a change is on the way thank goodness

    At least we are seeing a change from the utterly tedious mild benign start to winter. Midweek sees the change and frankly I'm looking forward to some active weather for a change!

    Nice to see some parts of the uk have a chance of snow towards christmas eve and overnight into the big day on the Gfs 12z...and a cold start to xmas day!

    Agreed, even when the high builds in it stays chilly..I just want winter like temperatures, surely not too much to ask for is it?

    I would love to see some snow before December is over and out, the Gfs 6z obliges! it even gives us a chilly christmas day..who would have thought that was possible

    Nice cold end to the Ecm 00z with wintry showers and even before that there is some cold zonality, especially across the north.

    Plenty of cold incursions with transient snow and wintry showers on the Gfs 18z which turns into a very unsettled run with bouts of wet and very windy weather..a big change from the boring, mild benign stagnation so far this winter!

    At least it would feel like winter later next week and even Christmas day on the Gfs 18z with max temps in the low single digits celsius range..better than the very mild mush last Dec.

    Honestly, I don't know why the mood is so downbeat, at least we have a chance of cold zonality at times later next week and through christmas with snow in the forecast..a welcome change from the recent / current mild benign tedium snooze fest!

    Yes it's cold air heading in with sub 522 dam, cold enough for snow showers beyond day 10. Some cold zonal before then too!

    There is tons of cold potential from the extended GEFS 12z especially by early January!

    The GEFS 12z mean shows anticyclonic conditions returning between xmas / new year with frosts and fog.

    Settled weather is very much the form horse to return after the unsettled spell, let's hope when the anticyclonic pattern returns it will herald some proper cold weather early in 2017!

    Nice to see some cold zonality on the Gfs 6z, later next week into the christmas period looks very unsettled and generally cold with spells of wet and windy weather but with some snow and frost around at times too!.

    I'm not worried There should be some colder incursions before christmas too in the form of cold zonality.

    I think many of us are ready for a change from the benign stagnant mildish start to winter with the atlantic firing up next week with alternating mild and cold incursions..some action at last!

    The Ecm 00z isn't as bad as some are painting it, still showing occasional cold incursions, especially further north with snow at times on high ground. The main message from the 00z output is its going to be turning much more unsettled during the second half of next week and through the Christmas period with a mixture of mild, wet and very windy and colder, brighter and showery with even some frosts during quieter interludes.
