From what I can see on raintoday.com the ppn is tracking westward along the coast quicker than this. Hopefully that means we have more chance of showers today. So wonderful this ppn popping up from the sea - usually with a low from the south-west if it arrives that means if blows through more quickly and is followed by the inevitable w*rm-up.

HI jtay, gut feeling says they'll just scrape through. Yes, probably GD on the last day of the season - we've been there a few times before! I've not been to the ground often (being too poor, then having kids, and being married to a (*whispers*) skate) but I hardly ever even listen to the games these days. Finding it difficult to care anymore, to be honest - being an old fart I remember the good old days when the team had some connection to the local area and a little bit of loyalty to the club... I remember getting all wrapped up to go see an evening kick-off against the Hammers back in the early 90s and it got cancelled cos the pitch was frozen and we ended up getting slaughtered in the Magnum, wearing our coats and scarves... I hope you get to sledging or at least see a decent game. It must be miserable for the players to be expected to perform in shorts and t-shirt

I will try to remember to ask hubby when I speak to him soon but we're having a bit of a family crisis at the moment so I apologise in advance if I forget. On the topic of cars, please remember everyone to keep the area around the exhaust pipe clear of snow (I can dream!) when the engine is running. The exhaust can back up into the car and that's not terribly good for you. Right, that's my last piece of doom and gloom. I'm ready to have some fun now!

Think about the supply side - where do your deliveries come from? The stock has to get to the warehouse, the delivery driver has to get to work, his/her kids have to get to the childminder's cos the school is shut, stranded lorries can block the motorways very easily... and some sod might come in and clean you out! I live in the suburbs and I've got bake-at-home bread in the freezer and i'm going to get UHT milk and extra catfood today. Also meds for 3-4 weeks is a must, because pharmacies also operate on a just-in-time system these days. We don't have the local availability that we used to have during the famous snow events of 63 so it's dangerous for people to think "well, we managed then". IMHO.

In 2010 it was ice under foot that was the biggest problem - I remember crabbing down the slope of the underpass on the common, holding onto the wall for dear life! And do you remember that day of the black ice, when everything looked perfectly normal but there was no traction underfoot at all?!!! That was incredible! But a bad day for the NHS. Hubby bought me some strap-on crampons around that time - they're still in the box, so maybe I shall see if they're any good next week

I'm in the same boat. I've just given her the heads up to be met with "well I only need to go to the corner shop". This is one of those shops where they bring the stock back from Macro in a Zafira. Still, I've told her not to come running to me when she slips and breaks a leg. Tonight I shall try to encourage my dad to stock up on his insulin (he lives in a village in Norfolk). So that's broken the seal: prepare for downgrades and being laughed at again.
