  1. I have no idea but you seem very certain and I am amazed how sure you can be! I can just look outside and to me it feels cold with some snow on its way and earlier forecasts of rain and sleet haven't happened.
  2. Making it lethal driving round Macclesfield glad to be back home
  3. Snowing fairly heavy just a shame that a lot of the snow melted last night in a milder period. In the town anyway. Pretty thick on the way out of Macc.
  4. Heavy snow above Macclesfield driven back to Wilmslow and a few miserable flakes blowing about in the wind and the snow that is here seems to be melting!
  5. If we are here to look at the models then surely we have the right to question the met office's analysis of those models. It is brilliant to have a professional forecaster on here but I don't think that takes our rights away to post a contrary view. This is a forum after all, if you don't want a discussion maybe we should just post the met office forecast with a warning not to discuss as it is insulting to the pros on here.
  6. From when has this been just a tropospheric model thread? You can't discuss the models with no reference to the stratosphere unless no stratospheric indicators are included in the models.
  7. Not being facetious here but if it is not cold by any means but definitely not warm what do you call it?
  8. It does look like some kind of breakdown could be on the cards for the end of July, although I think it is likely to be a half hearted attempt that will end up failing. On another note I remember 1976 fairly well and don't remember a number of breakdowns maybe these could be pointed out to me as I remember a long summer of no rain and high temps
  9. It's not value inflation it is just not the general air temp bei g quoted but the temperature the thermometer showed at grass level at centre court on full sun.
  10. No not really as it says the opposite! It suggests that we the chances of us remaining cold next week are higher according to this morning's models
  11. My life is affected by the weather every day I can't unfortunately stop myself from liking extremes and being fascinated by what causes them.
  12. I think people are tupping a lot earlier these days. I remember in the 70s and 80s digging lambs out in freak late April snow but not normally in March. I work On a smallholding as a grower and livestock keeper but I find this weather fascinating. That doesn't mean I have no concerns but we have concerns every year for various reasons I may as well enjoy the snow before we get a summer of rain and crops rotting in the ground and footrot in all te sheep.
  13. Talk of lambs dying as mentioned on the model thread is vastly exaggerated certainly in this area. Lambing hasn't really got going outside yet. We are behind in getting vegetable crops started, normally carrots, cabbages etc. would be sown outside by now but lots have had to be started under cover. Early potatoes have been planted but under bales of straw and deeper than usual to or prevent freezing. Nothing too serious yet, I prefer this to the drought last year and then a soak, I imagine things are worse where fields are waterlogged rather than under snow.
  14. Stunning cold snowy spell really. I know areas of cheshire and Manchester were under the snow shadow but still amazing. Roads are still blocked round here and the snow is still blowing about. Never known the cat and fiddle be unable to open after three days. Lots of local roads still blocked as well. Historic spell.
  15. Snowing steadily here now, blowing about in the wind.
  16. At least we got a covering! Snowing now again hopefully it will amount to something.
  17. I think the point is there is no recognised definition of sleet. I just didn't recognise your definition which suggested one partially melted snowflake was sleet. Maybe there isn't a right or wrong, maybe suggest this to your missus whilst enjoying the snow.
  18. I don't care what wiki says! As far as I am concerned and many others sleet is recognisable as rain and snow not wet snowflakes. I don't think of sleet as partially melted flakes. I am Not sure sleet of any kind is an issue tomorrow anyway!
  19. I think you have just changed the definition of wet snow to sleet. Sleet is a mix of rain and snow not partially melted snow unless it has changed recently.
  20. I think what interests md most is the continual projections of high pressure taking over, every other time this has been forecast at this range in the last nine months it has been watered down (literally) and we have has a couple of less wet days. Maybe this time high pressure really will build, which I think will be a major change.
