  1. -3.6c and dp -6.7c here already in Southend...expecting -6/-7c by dawn. Brutal cold for this area.
  2. Bottomed out at -4.8c a little while ago here. This has to be the longest run of sub zero nights for a long time in these parts. Impressive. Not so good for the boys football match tomorrow though.
  3. Managed a -5.8c here in Southend and a dp of -7.6c about 7:00am. Thats very cold for here!
  4. Rank day. Was hoping for a short spell of snow first thing, especially as it was so cold and frosty last night, but no. Rain all the way.
  5. You know things are getting desperate when hopes for the rest of winter are being pinned on an SSW...
  6. To me it looks like a window of opportunity around day 8-10 (as per) to get Atlantic heights in a favourable position to our NW. All depends on the modelling of LP exiting the Nova Scotia/Newfoundland region day 6-7 (as per) I will be keeping an eye on this area as we go through early next week...we need a break though for sure and we just dont seem to be getting it this winter. Plenty of potential, but little to show for it.
  7. Yep. Forget any Easterly for at least the next week (Well other than a very slack one) After Sunday's rain (perhaps leading edge snow for an hour or two) its UK high time again. Mainly dry and chilly with the odd frost here and there if cloud breaks.
  8. 12z GFS going for some leading edge snow on Sun morning, before turning to a bucket load of rain for the rest of the day. After that, it looks like a chilly boring UK high parked over us for the rest of next week. Not great, but at least it should be mainly dry with risk of frost/fog at times. Zero snow prospects next week though after Sunday mornings potentially brief affair. Attentions turn to the last week of Jan now. The Atlantic looks very blocked I must say. We just need a bit of luck to retrogress in a favourable area.
  9. Well, if that is our lot for winter then it has already been the best since 2013, not that it's saying much, so no complaints really. If a cm or two of slush is the best we can manage in winter nowadays, then we are just going to have to make the best of it.....or move!..... **Googles Rightmove Canada"
  10. Well indeed. The Council would rather spend the money on ridiculous road systems and trying to turn it into a city of culture, than improve sea defences. Hoping its not too bad, but fear for the residents and businesses along the seafront at Southend. I'm lucky I am high up from the seafront so no worries for me. But thinking I might offer my services tomorrow to those that may need it. Lets hope it doesn't come to that. It is usually overplayed to be on the safe side.
  11. So those that managed to get some snow/slush, what depth did you manage? I didn't measure with a ruler, but at peak I think we squeezed perhaps 2cm before it started melting. Still have a covering on most surfaces, but dwindling rapidly.
  12. Well, Thanks winter 2016....it's been memorable. Roll on Summer.....
  13. One thing I have learned this evening. Snow will lay on anything if it is heavy enough, even if it has rained solid for 6 hours before! One for the memory bank and I take it back earlier when I thought nothing would accumulate (even though it is a temporary covering)
  14. DP now turning positive, so expecting it to turn back to a wintry mix before fizzling in the next hour or so. Great whilst it lasted and the best snow since March 2013. Happy!
  15. I am in Southchurch at the top of Lifstan Way, so no worries here. Hopefully the surge won't top the sea wall.....
  16. Back from an hours fun in the snow. Got around 2cm on the ground I reckon but obviously very slushy and melting quick, so made the most of it with the boy! Still snowing light to mod with the temp at 0.8c and dp -0.2c
  17. Snow shield breached in Southend. Starting to lay on cars. The 4 year wait is over!
