  1. The wind direction must be changing, helping the formation of showers.
  2. Thank you for the update. This indicates the eastward progress of the showers! This shower was not picked up by the 00 hours radar so it either emerged very recently or it's too small and light. Karyo
  3. Tonight is almost certainly going to be the last really cold night of this current spell! Tomorrow night will be too breezy for any meaningful minimas and then Wednesday night may well see a band of precipitation coming from the south. Karyo
  4. There seems to be more precipitation over the Irish sea and the northwestern part of our region than the forecasts have suggested! The flow is slowly changing and a northwesterly will soon develop. The 18z gfs has upgraded the wintry showers for tomorrow, as it keeps the wind from the west/northwest for longer! Karyo
  5. I suppose there must be examples of cold winter months despite a cold stratosphere, but it's risky, especially with the el nino in force! Karyo
  6. Well done! The radar shows some heavy showers over your area and over the Irish sea. Karyo
  7. Yes Tamara, I am worried about that too! I have been visiting the Berlin site for updates on the stratosphere and the temperatures are rather below average with no sign of recovery! Brickfielder hinted a few days ago, that there were signs of a warm up but it didn't materialise! Karyo
  8. The local weather forecast (Northwest tonight) just said that some showers will cross the region tomorrow afternoon. It looks like the south of the region (say from Manchester southwards) will have them only briefly while in the north they will continue well into the evening. She said no great accumulations but due to the frozen surfaces (away from the coast) what falls is likely to stick. So, another radar watching day is coming! Karyo
  9. It's difficult to talk about specific location, but I think we all have a chance tomorrow as we pick a west/northwesterly flow for a time. Illustrated by the fax for midday tomorrow: http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=charts;type=fax;sess= It's a small window of opportunity and may well be marginal by the coast, but worth watching! Yes, it will be bitter tonight! Karyo
  10. Yes, the graphics on the regional weather forecast also indicated that. Especially for tomorrow and Wednesday when we will have a light westerly flow. Nothing too heavy but interesting nevertheless! Karyo
  11. I suppose conditions will have to be ideal for snow to fall where you live! Karyo
  12. It seems the Met Office is in favour of cold weather for their further outlook! http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html Karyo
  13. Regarding my earlier post about wintry showers over the region. The earlier forecast on bbc24 showed wintry showers for much of the region, including Greater Manchester for this evening and part of tomorrow. The latst forecast however, at 11:55am had much fewer showers and mainly on te coast. However, it is worth monitoring as the wind direction, will be vary in the next 24hours, as the weather system currently in the south, moves towards the east coast. A slight northwesterly can pll some showers further inland again. Regardless of that, tonight will be even colder and tomorrow many eastern areas of the region may struggle to get above freezing! Karyo
  14. Good point! Besides, the bbc24 forecast mentioned wintry showers for a large part of the region, this evening and again tomorrow. The gfs also shows that! Karyo
  15. The divergence in the models is certainly keeping things interesting! Interestingly, the ECM operational is very close to its ensemble mean. No warm up trend there, which is different to what was shown on yesterday's 12z. http://www.knmi.nl/exp/pluim/vijftiendaagse/Data/15DAAGSE_06260_NWT.png Karyo
  16. Snowing in the city centre too but not too much. I prefer the skies to clear again and have the ice and sbzero temperatures... Karyo
  17. Just came back from a meal out and I can say that it's gone a lot colder here in the last 2 hours! The thaw has stopped and it has turned icy as well! My snow cover is sitting pretty! Surprised to see the increased shower activity in the Irish sea1 I think Manchester will get the southern part of those showers and everything that falls will settle on the frozen surfaces! I expect the latter part of the night to be dry and clear. Karyo
  18. Just consider that you have plenty of snow around which is likely to stay on the ground till Christmas! Then we have two more months (at least) to look forward to! Karyo
  19. Non event???? I couldn't disagree more! Heavy snow showers on and off for most of the day for me and many areas! We can have 'non events' like that every day! Karyo
  20. Yes, fingers crossed the skies clear and stop the thaw. 2c is the maximum for tomorrow so we definately need the surfaces to freeze tonight otherwise there will be quite a thaw tomorrow. Obviously Macclesfield will be a bit colder so you should be ok. Karyo
  21. The showers are gradually transfering to the northern parts of the region as the wind turns more westerly. As a result the temperature has increased in most places due to the influence of the Irish Sea. I want the sky to clear and the temperature to fall as there is a thaw at the moment. Still a lot of snow around in Manchester, even in the city centre! However, even if the skies clear, the temperature won't fall much below 0c, thanks to the westerly and it will most likely stay above 0c near the coast. Karyo
  22. The sky is clearing now from the west. There are more showers coming from the Irish sea but not as heavy as the band that just passed! This was the merged area of showers that the bbc forecast showed this morning. Karyo
  23. No, there should be more coming/forming! Look also at Dazmaster's post. Karyo
