  1. They are precious indeed and well done for making the most of it! As for the thaw, it should be slow for you as it looks like you will miss the showers tonight. Karyo
  2. The showers are very near now! The shower that affected the Stoke-on-Trend area is now just to the east of Manchester moving north. Most significantly, a cluster of showers from northeast Wales is coming towards us! Edit: raining here... Karyo
  3. I can't see the skies clearing to be honest! A slow thaw here currently which I expect to continue through the night. Karyo
  4. The showers in Wales are keeping their intensity as they travel towards our region. However, I don't expect them to fall as snow. More likely rain, sleet and hill snow. We are better off missing them! Karyo
  5. Yes, a brilliant cold and snowy spell for sure! The band is moving northwards now so I hope for some clearance to allow the temperature to fall. Karyo
  6. Still heavy snow here and an extra 1cm added on the existing snow. Much better than I expected! Karyo
  7. That's great! I must have at least half an hour of heavy snowfall to look forward to. Edit: huge flakes now! Karyo
  8. Heavy snow now here! The radar shows that the precipitation is heavy from Manchester westwards, while the Pennine areas are seing much lighter falls. I hope once the band moves north, that skies clear to allow for subzero temperatures again! Karyo
  9. Is it still snowing in Macclesfield? Karyo
  10. It is now sticking on all surfaces and on the old snow as well! Worth mentioning that some of the snow we have on the ground is 6 days old! Karyo
  11. Moderate snowfall here with small and midium sized flakes! It is trying to stick where there is no snow but without big success so far! It needs to intensify a bit more! Karyo
  12. Snowing nicely now! Also the 9pm radar is showing a bit of intensification! Karyo
  13. Light snow here! The sky is looking nice (creamy white) but the radar shows a narrow weakening band. Still, as others said, at least it's not rain. Karyo
  14. Good! The snow is holding reasonably well here too. I was expecting a more significant thaw today! Karyo
  15. I agree! Are you having much in the way of thaw today? Karyo
  16. The MetOffice further outlook mentions the word snow (in the form of showers) and also getting colder. However, they are not going with the ECM as they expect the weather to become more settled and less cold in the end. Actually, the last sentence made me laugh 'The further outlook should continue much the same, but indications are that it will become more settled and less perhaps cold.' How can it be much the same if it will turn drier and less cold??? Karyo
  17. Thank you, this makes things clearer! Karyo
  18. Mr Data, I am not very familiar with the airport forecasts - do they ever mention the intensity of expected precipitation? For tonight, I think the word 'light' would be a meaningful addition! Karyo
  19. Don't raise your hopes for tonight! The forecast is talking for very light precipitation. The heavy precipitation is recerved for the east of the Pennines. Karyo
  20. According to the latest bbc forecast, the band of precipitatio coming slowly north over our region will weaken considerably overnight, so unlikely to lead to any measurable accumulations of snow. At least it is looking slightly delayed, so we should get a frost before the cloud arrives: http://www.netweather.tv/index.cgi?action=charts;type=fax;sess= Karyo
  21. Yes, the latest bbc24 forecasts also mentioned that the band of precipitation will turn to snow tomorrow night from Midlands northwards. I do expect however, to lose some of its intensity over us which might make it more marginal. Karyo
  22. If you play the animation in the met office link you'll see that the movement of the front is southeastwards. According to the bbc forecast it should reach Manchester just before dawn, although weaken as it does so. In reality, we don't want this band to reach us as it is unlikely to produce snow on low ground. So better stay clear and frosty! Karyo
  23. Look north! http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/ Karyo
  24. Thanks James, It's surprising you have the same temperature with a town which is much further inland! Maybe there is a stiff breeze that brings the sea influece well inland? Karyo
  25. Are you on low ground or a hilly area? Karyo
