  1. The band is heading northwestwards and intensifying all the time. The Pennines won't be able to stop its progress or dry it out. We are talking about the Pennines here not the Alps! Karyo
  2. I continue to see snow showers here on and off. However, there is a slow thaw which is surprising given the conditions and temperature. The organised band is progressing into Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. Karyo
  3. Don't think i am the most experienced here but i'll take it as a compliment! I think the low associated with the snow is getting organised nicely as it moves north/northwestwards and the western bands of the precipitation will affect us. So far the easterly has not stopped the shiowers from crossing the Pennines so i think the general band won't have much problem either. Of course east of the Pennines will see the heaviest falls but quite a lot of sea modification there and higher upper temperatures so i am glad we are where we are. Worth noting that this is not just a trough or a weather front that can easily fizzle out. The associated low pressure should keep it going through the evening and early part of the night. It's a very wintry looking week on the horizon even after tonight snow so plenty to be excited about! Karyo
  4. Who said that we don't do well in easterly spells? The showers are crossing the Pennines with no trouble at all! The band in the southeast is spreading north and west nicely. Karyo
  5. For a short time only it stopped. I am in Southmoor road. What i really like is the huge vatriety of weather since this morning. We even had over an hour of sunshine earlier this morning and then an hour later almost a blizzard! Karyo
  6. Heavy snow again in Wythenshawe! Yipee! This stream of showers from Lincolnshire and Humberside looks very prolific! By the way, check the latest radar. The snow associated with the low pressure moving from France is really pepping up now and moving north/northwest. People in the southeast are reporting heavy steady snow1 Karyo
  7. It depends what is your benchmark! This is my 3rd winter in Manchester and this is by far the best snow event i've had here. And there'e more on the way! Karyo
  8. White out conditions in Wythenshawe! 'White out' and 'Wythenswawe' don't normally go in the same sentence! ha ha Karyo
  9. That's promising as that's what we've been getting all night the showers from the Humberside and Lincolnshire area. Streamers have formed! Moderate snowfall now in Wythenshawe Karyo
  10. Wise decision! There is some wild weather over the Pennines! As i live in the city centre and work in Wythenshawe i drive on main roads so i should be all rght even if heavier snow comes later. However, i think they will send us home by 3pm like it has haoppened before with far less snow. Starting to snow again now. Karyo
  11. I am at work now in Wythenshawe. It's an open floor with about 100 staff but about half didn't turn up (working from home option was given). We've had an hour of sunshire but cloudy again now with showers to the east shown on the radar. Showers in Lincolnshire, the Wash and East Anglia are merging onto longer spells of snow and that's ahead of the low pressure that's moving in from the southeast. Karyo
  12. Heavy snow no in Manchester city centre. Lincolnshire is now getting pasted by an intense area of showery activity. It's coming our way.......... What a day!! Karyo
  13. Oh my God! I have 3.5cm on by balcony. Everything is white as far as I can see to my east. Moderate fluffy snow still falling. This is the best snow event for years. Just watched the local forecast: snow showers on and off for the rest of the day and then a general spell of snow tonight. The most important thing is that this snow on the ground is likely to stay for the rest of the week! Karyo
  14. The last update shows Yorkshire and Humberside getting a pasting now! A lot of excitement on their net weather thread! The introductory band that i mentioned earlier is over the Pennines now and about to affect Manchester in 15 mins or so. This one is light to moderate intensity. Time for some sleep for me. Goodnight and i hope we all have a day to remember tomorrow or shall i say week? Karyo
  15. Almost definately! They are heavier than the earlier ones and more organised too. I'll wait till the next update and then go to bed as i have an early start. Karyo
  16. Guys check out the met office radar (now works). The heaviest bands of snow showers of the night are now hitting the east coast preceded by an introductory band which is now approaching the Pennines. It's looking really good! Karyo
  17. This is only because there is a fault with the met office radar. The net weather radar shows plenty of snow on te east coast now. Good idea to go to bed though as we have another evening/night of excitement tomorrow! Karyo
  18. I have the same problem! By the way, i am popping in this thread from time to time because every snow shower i have received so far crosses your region first. Looking with interest the situation in Linc, Humberside and Yorks. Karyo
  19. The same could be said about the showers i've had on and off this afternoon and evening. I am on low ground to the west of the Pennines and still managed a covering in the city centre! Karyo
  20. Yes, it shows the precipitaion affecting us as we ll as the rest of England. Mr Data re: the blob of cloud. This is a trough or generally more organised showers that have crossed the north sea and heading our way. It's not over us yet. It should be around midnight. Currently north Lincolnshire, Humberside and parts of Yorkshire are reporting increased shower activity as a result. The 18z also shws this from 0am - 3am. Karyo
  21. The GFS shows a band of showery precipitation between midnight and 3am and then the main event tomorrow from 6pm. Plenty of precipitation! In fact, the midnight till 3am band is getting picked up by the 10:30 met office radar on the coast of north Lincilnshire and Yorkshire. Areas south of Manchester should be mainly dry till about midnight. Karyo
  22. Snowfall turned light here now. By the way, has anybody viewed the 18z GFS yet? Until recently it was reluctant to bring the northerly blast at the 2nd half of the week. Now it keeps us bitterly cold throughout! Karyo
  23. It's been snowing moderately here for some time. Still tracking the blob of cloud in the north sea now touching the yorkshire coast. Karyo
  24. Yes, this is the band that got organised in South Yorkshire and heading westwards. Just starting to fall heavily here! Karyo
  25. Thanks for the radar image. It clearly shows three streamers. One in southeast England, the second in the Lincolnshire wash and the onethat's relevant to us: Humber and south Yorkshire westwards. Quite heavy showers in this one. If you look at the satellite image you'll see an intense white blob of cloud just on the north sea heading our way for the early hours. Karyo
