  1. No snow laying here on the coast mostly sleet/rain.. Edit.. snowing now but wont lay far to wet unless it comes down in biblical proportions which I doubt it will.. Pretty miserable out there presently, hope the predictions for March are wrong as a bit warmth would be very welcome..
  2. No, Mike you did understand that concept. Ive talked about this with a mate of mine and paradoxes arise through this concept (Entanglement) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_entanglement .... these paradoxes arise through the hidden theories leading to EPR paradox, quite mind-blowing stuff and scientists do enlist the possibilities of their use in communication and computer technology. As Prof Brian Cox mentioned last night that this is still current belief of what makes up the universe and its workings..Will we ever know the truth or will there be other unknown variables come into play...probably!
  3. Light dusting here on the coast and very icy. Most should disappear today (fantastic day of wall to wall sunshine) and all will have gone tomorrow with temperatures on the rise.
  4. We've had a lone grey wagtail visiting our garden this winter . flitting around my 'natural' pond and often being bullied by other birds but he's a resilient little 'un' and gives back what he gets.. Btw Bobby they aint a such bird as a green wagtail..!
  5. Still moderate snow here temperatures have dropped below freezing at -0.2ºC and dew points -1.8ºC. Pretty good frontal snow event and plenty more to come and increasing intensity if the radar is to be believed. Further south of our region are having heavier precipitation but its not all snow at lower levels with intermittent hail/sleet and freezing rain at least its all snow even here at the coast.
  6. Those wanting snow think yersell lucky that we have a breakdown with snow and not the usual sleety/rain wimper..
  7. I think 1979 was the last time I saw snow coming in from the west with great intensity ( I was 15yrs old ) the snow just kept on piling, then after several hours of intense snow there was intense rainfall and turned it all to wallpaper paste slush, it was awful..
  8. Like I mentioned earlier this light ppn is coming from an upper front (warm in this case) around 8,000-10,000ft and much of the ppn will probably evaporate on the way down so will in most cases be very light at the surface.
  9. The patchy cloud coming through now is associated with an upper warm front the main front which will become occluded moves in later around 6pm.
  10. I doubt it with estimated temperatures at around 3ºC and thats at the coast. Temps aren't expected to start rising exponentially until around early sunday so saturday should see laying snow all day with only a very slow thaw.
  11. Dont see how anyone can take the current modelling seriously with charts like that Liam..!!
  12. Snowing heavily again on the coast and all surfaces are white..Sleet by day snow by night..
  13. Had enough of this now..! Snow by night, sleet by day. If it remained snow it wouldn't be so bad and I'd thought we'd have at least 7-8"of crisp snow but the cold rain/sleet just washes it away leaving an awful slushy mess..Hoping for a Nor'easterly in Feb as these often bring clean fresh snow with cold but sunny days in between, not grey, dull leaden skies like Sou'easterlies and easterlies do..
  14. Still snowing in South Shields a bit more than a dusting here but then I never lost all my snow cover, lots of standing water and slush on the roads but now a healthy layer of snow. Looking like a heavier batch is now incoming..and on that note I'm off to bed.. G'night all..
  15. Snowing hard here on the coast too and settling on all surfaces..!!
  16. Nay chance of a game of golf at Roseberry Grange the morra then.!!
  17. I know a few people who work at Nissan from Consett, nay chance they're gonna get yem the neet..!!!
  18. Last time we had snow like that was back in 78-79 winter..!! Hope it eases off soon for you as its looking to be concerning now..!! Lots of rain and sleet here in a howling NE/E, dew points are now into negative figures so perhaps turning to snow but it'll be a complete waste..
  19. Despite the showers being of snow its a bit of a waste as the snow cover is melting with huge puddles everywhere, just a raw unpleasant day here.
  20. No rain or sleet in the showers now all snow and getting heavier blowing around in a strong south easterly, still far to wet on the surfaces that had been cleared for the snow to lay. Temps falling in the showers to around 1ºC and dew point -0.1ºC so still close to marginal. Off to Felling soon hope I dont get caught in any sudden blizzards dont want to be stuck there.!!
  21. Heavy hail shower and I was out in it..!! Blowing hard and felt like I was getting sand blasted..!! Turned all the wet surfaces white again. Showers are now turning increasingly to snow with little rain/sleet amongst them.
  22. Rarely do I look more than 72hrs ahead, loved the days before the internet when I was doing my paper round in the early to mid 70's and looking at the weather forecast on the back page of the telegraph with the hand drawn charts wondering if the cold and snow would come from the near continent..! air temp now at 2.2ºC and dews at -1.4ºC. Think I can expect 30p sized snowflakes..! Haha
  23. Quite an encouraging post from Stewart (GP) in the technical model thread emphasizing a return (If we ever leave it) to a cold regime around the 28th Jan (a week Monday) from a NE/E, he even states that the models could do a marked turn around come the weekend. He's certainly put his cards on the table and if this comes to fruition I expect you folk inland and elevated are going to have a rough time especially if theres no breakdown in the current conditions..!!
  24. Just been to the local shop and on the way back a shower started and.......it was a rainy mix,(60/40 favouring snow) to be expected being only a half mile from the coastline I expect it was mostly rain in the town centre as I have elevation on my side although its only 90-100 ft asl
