  1. Anywhere north of the Humber. Absolutely teeming it down here on the coast with large graupel, everywhere is white again with a cm deposited in 10mins. Snowflakes now but not as heavy but I'd say it was still moderate. http://www.southshields-weather.co.uk/Today%27s_weather.htm
  2. My earlier post of merging showers will be an hour or so sooner with the risk of thundersnow be prepared for some extremely heavy snowfall.
  3. Plenty of heavy snow showers since 10am (big snowflakes) and just had a heavy graupel shower showing that 850hpa temps are now dropping. The showers will merge to give prolonged snowfall around 4-5pm.
  4. Just started to snow here right on the coast, well starting earlier than the BBC have forecasted.!!
  5. The only slight downgrade Ive seen is on the BBC graphics on the TV this mornin', the modelling still shows the same as it has always shown snowfall all over the NE.
  6. Only a few light showers were forecast last night , the forecast has always had the NE snow this afternoon and overnight..!!! Yes the snow potential over the weekend has been slightly downgraded but can easily be upgraded again, thats the nature of predicting snowfall..
  7. Colder on the coast for a change, down to 0.5ºC with Dp's at -2.9ºC and the winds are coming off the sea from the SE.
  8. Snowing lightly here now in a strong Sou'easterly gusting around 20-25mph.
  9. Not kidding, thought the lenses out of my reading glasses were missing..!!!
  10. Certainly does Liz, temperature here at the coast is 1.2ºC now but adding the wind chill it feels -4.5ºC and dew points at -3.5ºC with no obvious snow/ice melt. Going to be a fascinating weekend starting as early as tomorrow.
  11. No ice day here on the coast as temps climb above freezing to the dizzy heights of 0.8ºC.! http://www.metoffice...Time=1358467200 Snow as early as 3am with heavy snow between 3pm to 6pm. Obviously times may differ but looking extremely wintry. Having a Christmas lunch on Saturday at my brothers house, he missed Christmas this year as he was working in Africa so it'll feel very festive... Oh and its my birthday on Saturday so double celebrations..!!
  12. Certainly is Nick, beautiful sunshine having little effect melting the frost. Temperature here on the coast is still below freezing at -2.3ºC..!
  13. That's going by modelling but experience tells me that actual observation is the best bet, even forecasters/presenters on the BBC this morning haven't ruled out the odd shower clipping coastal regions today here in the NE.
  14. A possibility judging from the rainfall radar and satellite imagery. http://www.sat24.com/en/gb
  15. Looks like we might have had a very small graupel 'shower' last night as my 'natural' iced over pond in my back garden has a new sparse covering. Anyway got down to -6ºC here on the coast and is currently -4.5ºC. Showers out in the North sea are slowly making inroads towards coastal areas and possibly clipping later this afternoon, if anyone catches one they could deposit a few cm as they are very slow moving.
  16. Quite pleased to see that the fronts from the west are now being pushed further back, never been a fan of frontal events because often they end up turning to sleet/rain spoiling newly settled snow at low levels. Cant see sleet or rain at the coast with 850's at -7 to -8 in January either..!! Wouldn't look further than 72hrs at present but what I would say is that the wintry weather has just started and be prepared for serious cold and very snowy conditions.
  17. Quite a bit of melt this afternoon here along the coast with temperatures getting to a 'balmy' 2.5ºC..!! Temps starting to drop off now so all this slushy cr@p will end up freezing making walking a hazardous endeavour..! Hoping some off those showers pepping up in the North sea give us a decent cover within the next few hours and I can see a fairly decent one heading straight for Tyne & Wear. They look quite impressive out of my upstairs window, black bases with pinky tops..
  18. Stopped now at the coast lay down a cm or two but will lose that as its melting slowly. Another band seeming likely but they are moving slowly southward so north of the region might not catch any more showers today.
  19. Snowing now huge flakes with no wind, haven't heard any more thunder but hey..very heavy snow now..!!
  20. Can confirm the shower is to be very intense, hasn't started yet but the sky is black just off the coast-line..just heard thunder...thundersnow on the way..!!
  21. Just had a moderate snow show depositing a couple of cm's.
  22. Temps on the rise here 2.3ºC as the winds come off a relatively 'warm' North sea and dew point on the increase too at 1.2ºC.. Hoping skies clear for at least a frost before morning snow showers arrive in -8 to -10 850hpa air...
  23. Pretty awful conditions out there now as the snow has stopped and very fine rain is now falling with the odd snowflake thrown in. I still think I'll wake to a covering in the morning as I'm sure those showers out in the North sea will deliver although it will be hit and miss affair.
  24. Sorry GS been away making the tea, the winds have veered N/NE and its still snowing the flakes are very small now and its turned very slushy on the roads/pavements. I'm surprised its all snow as the Dp's are still above freezing at 0.8ºC and the air temps are hovering around 2ºC, evaporation going on I suspect.
