Snow getting heavier here now and its the dry powdery stuff..!!

Heavy'ish snow here on the coast..Small sized flakes so looking on the right side of marginal at the moment.

I'm pretty sure you'll be safe Alza, immediate coastal fringes at risk of sleet/wintry mix..

Heres hoping for some HUGE upgrades tonight for us on coastal fringes..!!

Mild at the end of the week should be taken with a gritter full of salt..!! haha

Dew points are now rising..... now at -1.8ºC..If they rise much further a wintry mix looking likely (here on the coast). Probably due to winds increasing blowing off a relatively 'warm' North Sea. Still on the right side of marginal but for how long?

Snow here on the coast in South Shields, albeit very light in an increasing NE/E/ESE veering wind. Temps are still 1.9ºC and Dp's at -2.9ºC as they have been most of today.

Heres a few photos I took at South Shields seafront on Friday evening around 8pm.

I'll let you all know whats falling at the coast going to be touch and go here but modelling on some sites have the 'milder' core about 20-30 mile offshore. There's quite a bit of difference of lying snow in South Shields, in the centre of Shields there's little snow cover but where I live we still have a couple of inches albeit icy. We had another slight covering last night/early morning as theres about half a cm covering on paths that had been cleared. BBC graphics on News 24 weather have rain/sleet for our area today but the very light showers on and off this morning have all been snow/graupel.

Wont it already be battered though Nick..!!

On my way down to my brothers I'll take some photos and post them up sometime over the weekend, wont be tomorrow as its my birthday and having a late Christmas lunch as my brother missed it this year as he's been working in Africa. Still snowing heavily out there..!

Unless it was just people mucking around in a car but it was definitely coming from a 'Tannoy' system the sort you hear around voting day in South Shields.

Only a matter of time before Durham gets it, 7pm at the latest I reckon.

Aye come Monday everyone away from the coastline will be in feet of snow whilst ours gets washed away with sleet/rain..haha

Yes I know what your saying been up Consett many a time and got stuck up there once.!! Thing is Peter here in South Tyneside we have a bigger population so heavy snow will cause more problems for people. Eased off for the moment now so I'll be sorting myself out and travelling(on foot) to my brothers... Oh no starting again and really heavy..!!

Just returned from my mams house and heard warnings from what I assume to be the authorities asking people to stay indoors and not to venture out.!! First time Ive ever heard owt like that, anyways the snow is coming down in bucket loads here right now and looks to be set in for at least a couple of hours.

Me next door neighbour has nicked my snow off my front garden..!! He's making a huge snowman for his daughter..!! Still I'm sure the next few hours will deposit a new layer.!!

Visibility was down to a few hundred metres in the heaviest pulses at least an inch or so deposited off the latest shower and the North Sea is full of it, I bet you people inland interpret 'full of it' differently to us on coastal fringes.!!

Snow showers since 10am. Showers becoming intense and prolonged this afternoon.

As i said above the frontal snow is grinding to a halt and will start slipping south east then the Lp will start to pivot drawing the winds from the east bringing showers/prolonged snow further inland

Frontal snow looking likely to push southwards now. Looking at the visible satellite it seems to be grinding to a halt just 20-30 mile from Teeside. Great..! Never been a fan of frontal snow as I've stated before, bring on the North sea onslaught..!!
