  1. Couple of quick snap shots... The highest building or house in Tomintoul is 358 metres asl. Braemar has quite a few houses higher than this.
  2. Chapel Brae, just off Mar Road - If you click on the link and select 'free text' and type in Braemar, Chapel Brae on the western part of Braemar is the highest part and there's quite a few houses up that brae. Looks like there's approximately 20+ houses that are over 360 metres and maxes out at 375.
  3. Braemar's lowest point is around 330 metres and maxes out at 375 metres. Tomintoul's lowest point is around 330 metres and maxes out around 355 metres from what I can see. I remember spending hours checking out the elevation of various highland villages last year, purely out of curiosity. Satellite technology is pretty accurate - Elevation Finder WWW.FREEMAPTOOLS.COM Find an estimate for the elevation of a point on the earth
  4. Braemar colder again at -9.1C so that's the coldest temperature now to beat.
  5. Braemar recorded -8.9C this morning, so that's the coldest temperature of the winter so far.
  6. Fraserburgh recorded a gust of 142mph during this storm...this is by far the fastest gust ever recorded in the UK (away from mountains). I wasn't living in Scotland at the time but it must have been devastating in the NE of Scotland.
  7. Officially, it's Shap with -8.7C according to the Met Office. I see Sweden has recorded its coldest November temperature in 30 years with -37.4C recorded at the weekend.
  8. No, you're reading that information incorrectly. It shows Aviemore recorded -23.9C in 1895 with an asterisk. Beside the Aviemore reading it shows that Braemar recorded a low of -20.5C in 1978. It looks like the Aviemore reading is unofficial. There only is one official source when it comes to weather and that's the Met Office and they confirmed that -23C is the coldest February temperature recorded since 1955. Winter and February climate statistics WWW.METOFFICE.GOV.UK The winter of 2020/21 overall has been wet and dull with near average temperature.
  9. No, it was the coldest February temperature since 1955 when Braemar recorded -25.0C on the 23rd.
  10. Snow rating - 9.5/10 (You can never have enough snow) Cold temperatures - 9.5/10 37 cms of snow in this area. 33 cms of that fell from Sunday evening until 5pm Tuesday. The winds died down from early Wednesday so we lost the convective ability. We achieved just over 40 cms here in 2010 - that had 5 days worth of convective action. Had we managed to get another day or two of convective showers in this event then 50cms wouldn't have been out of the question. So, Feb 21 will be mentioned in the same breath as 2010 - to almost achieve what we got in 2010 in half the time is staggering.
  11. Good grief, I don't know what to say. Measured just over a foot of snow...
  12. Still some snowfall to come for sure - heavy showers on and off until later tomorrow night when they will probably become less frequent so will be interesting to see how things go tonight and tomorrow. Good to see those further south now in on the action and enjoying the whiteout conditions.
  13. This is what will be moving south over the next couple of days. Whiteout!
  14. How about the beast from 2018/19? - Some people don't realise or forget how cold the uppers were!
  15. Wanna bet? There could be 2 Beasts from the East if the models are to be believed.
  16. Excellent agreement from all the main models for a Scandinavian High - JMA wants in on the fun too.
  17. It hits 525 metres ASL, that's seriously high. It's classified as a hamlet according to a quick google search but there only seems to be a couple of houses there. After the heavy snow in the early hours, woke up this morning to sleet and wet snow. Another hour or two and there will be no marginality.
  18. Snowbigging as this one is snowier than the other
  19. That's it! There's 2 Newbiggings in Angus (very confusing) but I'm right beside Tealing.
