    winds have really picked up here too over the last half hour and been very gusty out there along with heavy rain. Seems to be easing now as I type but then I thought that 10 mins ago only for it to pick right up again. Agree with Saint, when it was at its worst it sounded worse than some of the other winter storms we have had. Oh and yes here it comes again. Might have to close the little window to be in for any chance of sleeping here.

    lol fair enough. Well hope your half day goes nice and easy and then you can get home and chill. . seems to have calmed again here, so hopefully I can get a few hours sleep before i start on my christmas eve job round the house lol

    is it still really bad where you are? Am guessing by the way it picked up again here, its not over yet. light flickering is getting more frequent too.

    stay safe.. am hoping its dying here. For the past 10 mins seems to have gone pretty quiet with occasional louder gust but all sort of sounds more distant. My bed backs onto an outside wall where it rushes down the alley outside and round the corner but def seems to be quietening. ok now here comes the rain again lashing against window and very gusty again. Squall hit here maybe?

    ok I managed to fall asleep for a few hours on the sofa ooops. Still gusting about but not sure how bad its been for last few hours. It was reported to peak between hours approx of midnight to 3am, so has this been on target or have we still got worse to come overnight?

    thank you. Still not back yet, but trying not to worry too much yet. TV, tumble dryer and dishwasher are all on so i can't hear too much out there at the moment. Going to check the local traffic report to see whats occuring round here.

    Scared here too. Waited anxiously for my 20 yr old son to get home safely from work (new driver in an old car), for him to go back out in it again to get his girlfriend back to her Mums in Hatfield.. Would rather he had stayed here safe, but sadly her Aunt passed away this afternoon and she needed to get home And then to top it all my fiance is in Enfield working outside overnight shunting lorries round a yard, and most likely will also be out in the lorries delivering too.. I am guessing I will be in here alot tonight, to keep a track of things and for some people to talk to. I hate the wind, and it does scare me. Just hoping at least my son gets home soon and thats one less worry.. I am guessing that we are still due worse to come yet?? Please stay safe all

    my better half is a lorry driver and a shunter working 7pm til 4am.. Normally he will be shunting but they will probably want him out on the roads driving tonight too. He will be based in Enfield and could be driving absolutely anywhere. . Guessing between the wind, rain and the worry I won't be getting much sleep tonight

    power off for sec x 2 now.. even my son is now looking doubtful about driving out in it. Def picked up in last 15 mins or so. Think I am going to make another cuppa in case the power goes

    wish I could talk my son out of heading out in about an hour for work. He has only been driving about a month so not too experienced.. I have the tv on saying about the saying about the worst not here yet, and reading reports on here but he just says 'oh its not that bad'.. yes son I would love to be proved wrong. Been some very strong gusts here over past hour. I couldn't sleep due to noise and pain so been up watching. Keep getting calmer periods but seems to be more gusty each time it picks back up.

    was not expected to reach this sort of area until about 5 onwards I don't think. Hard to tell exactly when and how bad it will be when it gets here. Think I will give it up for a few hours and get some sleep. I would hate to be so tired when it gets here, that I sleep through the whole thing. No work for me as recovering from surgery so if I wake in the night I will be back checking on progress. Please stay sane all.. what will happen will happen.. and most of all stay safe

    you mods on this forum must have the patience of saints seems so many people are slamming the news coverage and the actions taken but have clearly no listened to a word of it, or read any of the proper informative posts on here. Writing the storm off before its even got started. Who knows what will happen is plain crazy imo. It's mother nature and will do whatever it wants despite what people say, and all coverage have forecast that its not likely to get going until gone midnight even though its getting wild already in some places. I was looking forward to spending a few hours with like minded people but unfortunately the minority are definitely spoiling things. Anyway raining steadily here, and still quite calm but a good few hours before its forecast to reach this part of the country. Sad to hear they have called of the search for that young boy Sensible though. Thoughts are with his family.

    News 24 (yes I know not the most accurate of sources) started by saying severe storm sun night into Monday, then went as far as forecasting up until roughly 4pm tomorrow. Maybe they saw the 18z too

    both the yellow and the amber are valid from 12.05 until 21.00. Sounds to me like they are hedging their bets and covering all angles. I am still hoping we are more in the yellow not the amber. Love extreme weather but also remember the chaos after the '87 storm. I know they are not saying its going to be that bad but then again who knows.

It's for the same areas and time span.. confused now but hoping the yellow one is right not the amber Apologies if this has already been posted about

    our lights went about the same time, but came back. It closed down one of the pc's left on and reset the oven. There was also a strong smell of burning around when I went to switch everything off.

    just as i was about to drop off i heard my first rumble and so far heard 5 getting louder i think. They are in the distance still but wherever they are i suspect its very loud there. Could this be the london one i am hearing? Flashes still to my NW. Not sure about the S as my room is facing NW. To see the other side means going downstairs and looking out the back.. Another one as i type and dogs starting to bark. Here we go. ok guess i should have scrolled up first then I would have seen Buntingford have a storm so guessing its that one i hear
