  1. Sorry if this is a stupid question but where is all this snow thats ment to hit on the radar? because there doesnt look that much coming into the East the moment unless its ment to form out of no where later??

Because one band to the south is moving past the SE out in the channel towards France and the other to the north of that looks like its heading North not south?

  2. The sun is out and lovely. Temp now 4.9 Degrees.

Lol. The beast never appeared...again. This so called cold spell confined to the SE corner of the country. Very disppointing considering some experienced weather watchers

    predicted for the WHOLE country.

I take your 15 years old then?

No im not 15 anymore. I was years ago hence i want to get rid of it!

  3. I do agree also but we still have to remain positive while it shows us that eye candy. I would be more concerned if it showed warm and mild.

There is still hope, a fools hope but its there none the less.yahoo.gif

Lol after reading that i realise i really have seen lord of the rings to many times...

True, I will give it one more "tomorrow" chance :( and will wait and see what happens! - Cloud starting to move in at a fast speed from NNE direction i think.

Cant say ive ever watched a lord of the rings film actually lol! :yahoo:

  4. But it never actually happens, does it? It's always a few days away or something. It never actually materialises.

I've had enough of the ups and downs and will not build my hopes up again, just to have them painfully dashed away. :cray: :cray: :o

I would be delighted to be proved wrong, mind! :D

Was just going to post a similar thing befor i read yours. It's always been "Tomorrow" but come that tomorrow and it doesnt happen then its ment to come "tomorrow" again :yahoo:. a "Today" would be nicer to hear :(:(:D

  5. :drinks::drinks::drinks:

    freezing here..still ice around...

    South West England:

    Gloucestershire

    Swindon

    Wiltshire

    Heavy Snow Fri 18 Dec

There is a moderate risk of severe weather affecting parts of eastern and southern England. Snow showers, especially during the first half of the day, will give local accumulations of 5 cm, with perhaps 10 cm on hills. Some drifting snow is possible in the strong north to northeasterly wind.

Issued at: 0847 Thu 17 Dec

Surely East Dorset will get effected then if all the counties north and east of us are!?? :unknw:

NEtweather gives Bournemouth a 80% Chance of snow at 3pm today and 92% Chance at 6pm today. Not sure how reliable the local forecasts are on here?

  6. Latest Netweather Article on the homepage mentions Central Southern England :D

'Through the day, a more persistent band of sleet and snow will push into southeast England, East Anglia and eventually even central southern England later, and is unlikely to move away until late in the day Friday, which could mean some quite difficult travelling conditions in these regions where the snow settles and accumulates. '

    Lets hope so :D

  7. Latest Metcheck Article:

We have been talking about it for much of the week, and today marks the arrival of that north-easterly wind which is going to bring bitterly cold conditions, and snow to southeast Britain in particular.

Already this morning a number of heavy showers are running into eastern Britain as those winds freshen up, and as we go through the day they will turn increasingly wintry with hail, sleet and snow. This is something we are monitoring closely because there is a high risk of significant snowfall developing across parts of East Anglia and southeast England tonight, along with strong to near gale force winds which would give blizzard like conditions in places - please see our Severe Weather Warning for more information.

If you are in central or western areas, you will probably be wondering what the fuss is about with a mainly dry day in the offering, although it will be cold and breezy. There will be some sunny spells around with only a few coastal showers.

It will remain mostly dry and clear tonight in western parts, with a widespread frost developing. Concern will be focused on central, eastern and south-eastern England where heavy snow is expected at times as the very cold air comes across a still rather warm North Sea meaning intense convection is likely. This means part of the east and southeast will see local blizzards, possible thunder, significant accumulations and drifting of snow resulting in possible disruption for Friday.

I hope East Dorset gets something ;) (Oh and thats a sarcastic laugh not a excited laugh!)

Currently clear skies here and looks freezing out!

  8. I noticed that! They may have more snow, but we know how to have a good old chat! Or should that be a good old moan?

It was the same in February....we had more "discussion" threads than any other region, I think. Ah, that has to say something about us, doesn't it.....snow or no snow.....we are the gobbiest!

What a complete and utter letdown this has been. I knew we were not the ones who were going to be blizzarded to kingdom come, but I thought we might get something......... :(:(:(

I gather that tricky dicky didn't bring any comfort, then? :)

Thats why ive moved from the southern central thread to the south west thread because theres not many speaking at all in the southern central :cold:

Still raining :drinks: But temp still below 2c. Got a friend whos said its been snowing in Farnham for the last couple of hours now but not settling i dont think! - This rain is starting to get on my nerves now especially as the temps are cold! it might aswell just be warm! :)

  9. It's dried up here after light drizzle most the afternoon. Can't seem to get that temp down, must be because I am near the coast.

It did get sleety a bit here this afternoon. But as i was near Poole Quay area it was more rain and turned more sleety as i drove more inland. Temp got to 1c here today!. Notably chillyer compared to recent days. Not really a lot happening now.

  10. Aspire, if you don't like the forum, which going on your comments you don't then there is very easy answer.....

Who's caused false hopes ? who doesn't understand the weather ? Or perhapes your saying that GFS which is predicting the snow for the SW doesn't understand the weather. ?

Im with Iceberg on this one. You obviously are a very new member on here who has come on here with the intention of winding people up. You've done nothing but moan, be a misery and constant false hopes!. You are probably just live in a depressing area thats not forecast snow and are jelous of those who are!.

Anyway, they rain may finally be turning to sleet now! be interesting to see what all this Precip coming down from the North brings!.

  11. lol..maybe not...

I think tomorrow will see an area of rain coming in from the North then as the day goes on I would of thought it will turn to snow for the Midlands and the East...

Not sure how far sOUTH THIS Snow will go..

I personally think once it start's as snow it will stay that way.

Even though there will be some warmer air to contend with..

    Just my opinon...

I also think we will see a fair bit of the next 3 days or so...

    West/South and the Midlands

    just my opinon.... :drinks:

IF not a complete disaster...No in between

ITV Weather around dinner time tonight said that precip moving down from the north will turn to snow as it moves south giving a dusting in the south tomorrow afternoon/evening and they also put out a warning of heavier snow for Friday. Lets hope they are correct!

  12. This isnt my first post on this forum.

I have been watching this predicted cold spell develop for two weeks now.

Continually the models have shown brilliant cold and snowy charts consistantly everyday in FI. The models have always changed in the reliable time frame

putting the 'cold spell' further and further back...and now the models are showing the breakdown for middle of next week.

We have now got some colder air (if you call 4 to 6 degrees cold) and the models are showing no real cold temperatures in the reliable timeframe (friday into the weekend is not reliable) only cool, damp, drizzle days here in the South / South West.

People in the East of the country on this forum I find are very biased with regards to their area. Our country is very small, to have temps of 6 degrees in Plymouth (with rain) and 2 degrees in Kent with some snow is NOT what i call a cold spell.

This cold spell has NOT arrived yet, and is continually being downgraded in my book. The BBC (for all their worth) has forecast some snow for the end of the week for the east, nothing for us here in Bristol and the South West.

All I can see is damp, cool / cold days towards christmas with no real cold.

A cold spell is like Feb 91, when day time temps are below freezing, ice cold easterly wind, and heavy snow showers for the WHOLE of the country. Not just parts of this small island.

Feb 2009 was NOT a notable cold spell either. Temps not near freezing by day (3-4 during the day) the snow was melting as it was falling, wet slushy stuff. If you live on the Mendips then thats different.

I hope Im wrong, but with SO MUCH POTENTIAL, AND SO MANY CONSISTANT FREEZING MODEL CHARTS over the past ten days or so im worried this cold spell, which has not arrived yet will be a let down, and never arrive.

We may never get to see model charts like the ones we have seen the last two weeks again for years...so much potenial...and nothing comes to fruition.......well not yet anyway.

Lol. Where do you come from, the arctic? :drinks: I think temps of 2c or below are a cold spell to most people. And in feb 2009 i would call that a cold spell with 5 consecutive days of heavy and very heavy snow! - Well it may not have been where you are located but here in Dorset it certainly was!. :good: B)

  13. Thats why i have resorted to flying to the cold air! skiing on the 2nd january however they have a shortage of snow at moment also! doh.gif I have been skiing four times now for a total of 5 weeks and never seen a flake over there. last time i had rain while skiing.

My luck never fails to amuse me. mega_shok.gif

Bit off topic but where do you ski?

Ive been to Tignes in the French Alps twice and your guaranteed snow there!. Was well over a meter deep both times even at low levels <_<

    http://www.tignes.co.uk/webcam.htm

On topic. Still a few flakes falling here despite hardly any precip showing on the radar now.

  14. Definately not rain out there now. The sleet is starting to get heavier now! Be good to see some proper decent size flakes though over the next few days! :)

Metcheck have got Dorset down for heavy sleet on Monday and then Heavy Snow on Tuesday?? But unfortunately Metcheck have been useless at forecasting sleet and snow over the past few years!!

  15. The trough should be making its way south westwards later this evening & overnight, so I wouldn't worry too much about it dying out at the moment. Eastern & northern parts of Dorset should get a light dusting drinks.gif

The sky is starting to turn that lovely pinkish colour here, but there isn't even rain falling at the moment & temps are a bit high at 3.5C doh.gif

Not sure though as the precip currently over us is just about to end and head into the channel looking at the Metoffice radar and theres no more precip to follow!. Will just have to wait and watch :D

  16. It's lookind good for some snow for our region this evening & overnight. Should see some in northern & westen parts of Hampshire, southern Wiltshire & Dorset. Could well be a dusting on Salisbury Plain & the New Forest tomorrow morning... drinks.gif

Looks like the precip is going to end soon though on the radar? or is more ment to form? If you visit the south west discussion a member has posted a snow risk chance for Thursday night and Dorset, Hampshire etc are in the 75%-85% chance of snow Thursday night! Lets hope it happens :o !

Just said on the radio of reports of it snowing in Winchester. I must admit, the rain is turning into sleet here in East Dorset!
