Living where I do, I tend to start looking for warmth from mid to late February. Whilst we can still get snow at that time, it tends to melt very quickly if it even settles, so I'd rather start getting on with things in the garden etc. At the other end of the scale, I'd rather keep the warmth in til the end of October or beginning of November as realistically we arent getting any snow until December at the earliest ,but we might just scrape the odd frost in November if we are lucky.

Im not bothered with the darker mornings, early light is no use for recreation time. Really wish we could Spring forward at start of Feb and then ditch going back to GMT full stop -
Weather highlights of 2023?
Wynn D Woo replied to Weather-history's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
A pretty rubbish year overall with the only real highlight the early September heatwave. I really hope the UK climate isnt shifting to this cloud ridden dirge as default and 8 months of autumn... -

Yeah great if you love miserable wet weather... We seriously need some prolonged dry weather, everythings flooded yet again! -
My preference would be; 1. Cold and Snowy 2. Cold and Sunny 3. Mild and Sunny 4. Mild and Wet 5. Cold and Wet 6. Stormy I find cold and sunny feels less cold than mild and wet, which is the annoying default around here, then everything is just damp, it gets into the bones as well, its depressing and it doesnt save on the heating because its damp so still has to go on...

11th December 2022 central and southern England snowfall event
Wynn D Woo replied to Metwatch's topic in Historic Weather
One of the better snow periods around here given the low lying nature of Gloucester. Woke up on the morning of the 11th and it was snowing lightly with a thin covering and honestly expected it to fizzle out and then thaw through the day, so out we went for a walk up the local (small hill). As we walked the snow continued to fall and got heavier and heavier. By time we were at the top of Chosen hill at 150m ASL there was around 6 -7 inches lying and even back home at 20m ASL there was a good 4 inches. the snow fizzled out by evening and then the temperature dropped, setting the lying snow to the point that even with sunny days there was no thaw for a week before rain eventually moved in. -
Model Output Discussion - mid Autumn

It was over Gloucestershire too, not just a London affair... -
I've had this too... but only 3 or 4 times which I had put down to the VPN causing the issue or some site maintenance. Otherwise speedwise etc has been fine and no other issues to complain of.

Way worse travelling back after work this week in the dark, and noticably more crashes on the roads, has meant either sitting in traffic jams or trying to find back routes down narrow country lanes to get past it all. All so much worse since the clocks went back.
