  1. Erm, you can get snow in mild winters. I can't remember a snowless winter
  2. But until the last 2 years, we had snow every year as far back as I can remember (late 70s) this period is setting a precedent in this part of the country :-(
  3. You're probably worse off than us for snow then. I just can't understand how this keeps on happening to the Midlands. We used to be able to get snow event, at least one or two per year, now we struggle to even get rain or anything of interest. No-one said global warming would just equal 'bland'. This has been the worst two weeks of medel watching I can remember in 10 years. Not only for the model inconsistency, but for the fact that even though we have a 'cold' spell now, it's probably going to be dry and without ice days. Not even a frost here this morning! The folk on here keep sating 'wait for the cold and the snow will come' well, I've waited for almost 3 years now
  4. I'm just hoping 'something....anything' pops up at short range, the snow always seems to be "next week" it never gets any closer. There is a slight chance of a dusting tonight, but that will melt tomorrow and I won't be able to play in it or make snow angels or the such. Why are the weather gods so cruel???
  5. Complete load of shyte, I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't even get a frost out of this 'cold snap' 3 years without settling snow in just over a month and a half How the heck can it have been one of then wettest winters on record UNTIL THE COLD AIR GETS HERE, right........end of rant!
  6. Peeing it down here now, with plenty to come. The weather must be trying to get all the precipitation through here before the uppers get low enough to turn it to snow lol
  7. We had a heavy belt of rain pass earlier, and there was sleet in that, so I'm hopeful of something tomorrow night *fingers crossed*
  8. What the heck is going on with the GFS? Has is gone mad or something? I came in last night to find cheer and celebration, tonight it's doom and gloom. How can it flip backwards and forwards so often over one scenario? I think most of us can agree that it's getting beyond the joke now
  9. The same metoffice app that puts us in rain at 4'c and london in sleet at 7'c? I'd not worry about it :-)
  10. The BBC are useless when it comes to snow. Quiet often it's been snowing outside and they've had now snow symbols and temperatures of 7-8'c!! They also missed one snow even altogether and were still forecasting rain as heavy snow was falling!
  11. I doubt the polar vortex could get so organised so quickly as the ECM is showing in FI. I'll just stick with this week and see what happens. Remember 2010, when the warm breakdown kept on getting pushed further and further back? We should have around 5 days of brilliant cold and hopefully snow, which is more than some of us have had in almost 3 years. Sit back, enjoy, build lots of snowmen, post thousands of pictures on here
  12. I see the 12z GFS really doesn't want us to have this cold spell. Every run it's something different, I don't know how much more my nerves can take. This morning I thought we were practically safe until next sunday, now it's only until thursday and southwesterlies are being progged. This is still the worse ever run of models in the 10 years I've been on Netweather
  13. Even when we've had a major cold spell imminent, they tend not to say an awful lot. Stuff like "may turn colder with wintery showers" or "chance of slightly below average temperatures".
  14. Of course, the 'buzzword' for this cold spell for most of the Midlands will be 'marginal', but I remember the cold spells of 2010 and 2013 were just the same. We had wonderfully cold uppers of almost -10'c and it was dry as a bone! When the moisture started to come in it went all marginal on us and we had quite a few let downs of rain, whilst everyone else in the land had a snowfset, even the damn channel isles! I'll be happy with a couple of inches of snow followed by a high pressure and some vicious frosts! I'm not expecting a foot of snow, I've gone beyond that nowadays lol
  15. don't worry about a precipitation chart from 7 days away, it will be absolutely different come the day
  16. Yes, but it'll probably ridge over Europe and we'll be stuck in southwesterlies with plus 10'c uppers
  17. Euroslug incoming at 174. I have no toys left to throw out.........
  18. It's the Greenhouse high that seems to be causing the most trouble. It's been inflating and deflating for days and days now
  19. Won't be able to get a reliable mid term let alone FI. This is better than an eastenders Christmas special from the 80s
  20. That's not necessarily a bad thing. 'If' we have nationwide snow cover, a HP drifting over us will keep the snow intact and the temperatures at the surface will drop into some very juicy number. High pressure after snow is a very good thing
  21. Let's hope for some more upgrades ay? The models even just 90 hours out are all over the place, even guessing next week's weather is very difficult. I'm hopeful still, but do have a huge amount of trepidation about snow chances. We must be the most let down region of the UK when it comes to snow. Hopefully we'll get some nice rime frosts to photo though, that's almost as good as snow
  22. wow! I've not seen anything from the GFS ever as messy and changeable as the past 4 days output. How the heck can we even begin to forecast the weather at the end of next week when there are literally 5 or 6 shortwaves playing havoc with anything over 96 hours? Even looking at the northern hemisphere charts for today, it's such an utter mess, this must be the worst model output period I've seen in 9 years on this forum!
