I'm not too confident about later. The way the showers are aligned and what the models show, it looks like the snow showers will be in mainly sheffield/derby/chesterfield... the usual areas lol.
This polar low to the north west is very interesting and will probably give somewhere a dumping, but it's expected to track right down through wales before moving south east. But you never know as the track of these little beauty's can be very tricky to forecast and south/west yorkshire (more especially south yorkshire) COULD be in for a nice suprise.
I wouldn't count you out, although further south and west seems better (Sheffield and Chesterfield region). So far its further east than modelled/ Latest NMM has it brushing through south Yorkshire, further north than the 6z. Certainly, whoever it hits, is going to get a decent pasting!

A few more echos now showing up on the radar again. Moving SE still. Should make it to Leeds and Sheffield areas hopefully. Keeps us topped up lol until the polar low later
That shower coming in over Preston seems to have our name on it
@Chevweather
Should it hit our region then a further 5-10cm seems possible. Would make for an interesting commute

Haha i hadn't even noticed them, too busy watching this PL. Even if it misses us, still fascinating to watch. Hopefully the hills are kind to these next few showers
-
Latest NMM, albeit the French version. Further North and west than the 6z, although by small amounts only. Its going to be very interesting watch this one unfold!

It will die off well before getting anywhere near the SE, might make it to the midlands.
Would most likely be light, although the lines are more to illustrate potential track over our area
NMM has precipitation in the South and West of our region

I've enlightened the 'polar low' thread as to which thread had the observation of the forming low first!!!
Just to say the PL moved around its parent low as well as 'with' the general movement of the parent low ( whilst spinning its own cloud around it!) .
With that in mind I think she will come in somewhere from across SW Scotland to the Mersey? that would put most all of NW England and West Yorks/South Yorks in the firing line as it passes out into , and out of Derbyshire heading SE to the coast?
I was well happy to see the circulation closing ( 10a.m.) and then see its central pressure dropping! Could be a helluva night from midnight on???
Perhaps something like this?
Precipitation (slightly) too far west on the GFS
-
Polar low looks interesting, pretty certain it won't reach here but will it have any impact on tonight's precipitation, bringing it further west perhaps? One to monitor
Temp 0.5c so should start freezing over
-
Most likely irrelevant however the GFS 12 shifts the precipitation westwards, possibly hitting the North Midlands and Western areas of South and West Yorkshire...
Resolution means i wouldn't place much faith in such occurrence, however, highlights some potential interest for tonight!
What a blinding 24h.. I was so excited last night I couldn't sleep! I was up every few hours peeping out of the window and radar watching. Kid's got a snowday, and that streamer this morning gave us a right dumping over 10 inch up here.. best snow event so far. ( tried to upload a piccy..Apologies if it's not right)
Fantastic pictures! Which part of Sheffield you in? Have relatives over in Fulwood, can imagine it is bad that end
-
Looks like that's it, for now (with the streamer pushing through Lincolnshire). Will we strike lucky tonight? The further west and south you are the better
-
well interestingly the band died a lot as it reached here. The little bit behind is doing the same. Ill not be greedy though
Yes, the Pennines have got their act together . Still, can't complain!
Edit: Light snow, will add nothing though. Eyeing up that shower over Holmfirth, although the hills will most likely kill it

15-20 cm of snow here. Will post picture shortly!

Well woke up to a dusting of snow, falling quite heavy at the moment. Radar indicates plenty more showers to come. All in all not bad given the set up
-
I doubt it. It works the other way when you have an E/NE flow, they die as they try to cross over the Pennines. Seen it so many times.
You was saying? Right about me though
-
As i expected i was just too far south. Still, plenty of showers to come tonight so hopefully a cm or two by morning, unless it melts, at 2.1c
-
We should have this guy..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32FB-gYr49YHow do you embed youtube videos?

I imagine the warning could be extended southwards (say to Sheffield) for western areas of our region overnight, must depends on the intensity of the showers are how far south and west they make it
-
It is simply a case of radar watching. Snow reports from the NW thread already
-
Yes been keeping an eye on that HS. Done well out of marginal events so far. Third time lucky? Wind really picked up here as the cold front pushes through. Not expecting showers (i.e. prolonged) till early morning, when the streamers hopefully push south. Thinking Sheffield will do well out of this

Don't you mean W, NWN flow, or you referring to the weekend? Showers will certainly make it across the Pennies, just a question of who they hit!
-
-
Yes, i wouldn't pay too much attention to the BBC weather graphics and forecasts, just as you wouldn't with GFS and other model precipitation charts (especially in shower scenarios). They are only a guide. Our region will see snow tomorrow and Thursday, with pretty much anywhere at risk. Some will get lucky with 5-10cm, others may only getting a dusting! Wouldn't like to guess potential sweet spots, although Pennine regions should do well

Always remember this Mark that we were told to expect 5cm we ended up with 2ft +
Yeah, was certainly a shock waking up to it. Still, why they didn't update i'll never know. If half a meter of snow doesn't warrant a red warning i don't know what does, although i guess it had stopped snowing, after about 24 hours

Amazing pictures! Was truly an exceptional event, yet not even a red warning from the meto

So heres the 6z position of the PP
and the radars
Much further east than forecast. Will update with the 12z!
In the mean time another couple of cm's for Sheffield and Chesterfield in the next few hours, according to the radar..
