Nice sunny start but full cloud now - though was forecast. Hopefully less in the way of cloud for the bank holiday!

9.3c please

I'm pretty sure 2010 was mostly luck. We had around 40cm in Creswell which is c. 80m asl, Worksop got similar amounts and is even lower. Western Sheffield is edge of or even in the peak district so is always going to do better than much of Leeds. As others said had this been December or January we could have added several cms in places - though ppn intensity was also an issue. 14cm in March is very good and Roundhay is only between 100 and 150m asl.

Settling snow in Roundhay according to the security cams. Shame it will be gone by the time I'm back tomorrow :(
-
Sun has dented the snow quite a bit. But in the shade and grass its survived pretty much intact (10 to 14cm still). Max temp of 3.2c. Hopefully melt should stop in the next few hours before a hard frost. Sadly I won't be back until Sunday. Any top up Saturday evening will have gone by then sadly. Have fun!

March 2018 was definitely better here. This event is about as good as Jan/Feb 2021. A looong way off December 2010 or Jan 2013.
Thanks - which part of Leeds are you based? I'll have to look through the files for Jan 2013, how much you get then?
-
Looks like Western side of Sheffield matched the epic December 2010 totals? Some posts showing Lodgemoor / Crosspool with about 40cm of snow

Best snow event i can remember for a long time - I'll rely on others to tell me for Leeds as I was in London since 2016. Well-done to the Met Office on the amber warning - got just under 15cm level and 20cm on the grass. If only yesterdays snow stuck a little better, we might have gotten closer to 2010. Melting rapidly on plants etc.. ,though i reckon we'll keep cover in the shaded areas until Sunday. The downsides of snow in March! I'm off to London today and back Sunday, hope you all see some snow Saturday evening (looks another 2-5cm widely prior to turning much milder)
Always an odd time when you think 4 weeks today we could be realistically hitting the mid 20s if any heat makes it!

Looking at the radar again and the good news is that the cold front is also flattening which means we are go.
West/South Yorkshire due around 8-9pm.
Here's hoping. Has been quite light for the past hour over Leeds, though is at least now sticking. Looking even better hopefully for your area!

Settling on the roads and pavements now, though back to light snow as we seem to be in a bit of a gap. Not expecting anything near the warning level in my part of Leeds - elevation and lack of intensity hasn't helped (can really see the elevation in that the top part of Roundhay it is sticking to roads, c, 140m, but nearer Oakwood (under 100m) its really struggling. With another c. 12 hours of off and on snow i am hopeful for a decent covering of several cm's - lets see!

Horsforth train station is a different world from here at 110m asl, proper snow line about 150m now, everything covered above that.
Roads and pavements now covered in Roundhay - alternating between moderate to heavy-ish snow. The dripping also seems to have stopped, though temp is still 0.4c

Back to light snow now with temp slowly dropping, 0.4c now. Hopefully picks up again soon.
-
Snow is at last back and the temp has dropped to 0.6c and with a dew of 0c. Radar looks good for the next few hours at least. Might make a trip to the park just before it turns properly dark..
-
Seems to be turning to snow again but still too light to do anything meaningful (need the temp to drop a bit) - keeping an eye on the heavier precipitation coming in over Liverpool. If it survives the Pennies could hit our region peak rush hour..!

Lets hope so, it has gone darker. 0.7c here with drip drip but that stuff to the South looks very interesting...perhaps it will cause rush hour carnage. A know a number of people who think that it is and have started venturing out. Lets face it drip drip normally means the end of a snow event but not today.
Lets hope so - i always thought later this evening would be best. Cookridge has a bit more elevation than Roundhay so hopefully less marginal for you!
-
Good to hear positive reports further south, Back to sleety rain now in North Leeds with a temp and dew of 1c. Heavier stuff should hopefully land within the hour. Fingers crossed!
-
Looks like heavier precipitation inbound for the Leeds area - hopefully! Temps maxed out at 1.0c. Hopefully should start to drop in the next hour.... Traffic webcams look to show heavy snow further down the M1.

Back to snow, i think, in north Leeds. Wonder if i'll be just too far west for the band over Sheffield. We'll see! Still reasonably confident most of us will wake up to decent covering tomorrow

Will be interesting to hear what the heavier patch about to hit Sheffield falls as!

Sleet here too, with a temp 0.8c. Quite a bit of melt too. Lets see what happens later on!
-
High res models always suggested the band would fragment during the course of the day. Has become lighter in Leeds. Expecting the snow pep up again later, though likely will be off and on in terms of intensity.

Nice sunny start though perhaps turning cloudy early afternoon and for most of the BH weekend. Hopefully overestimated by the models!
