Yes I think this next few hours into max daytime heating will be nervy to get through.

Hopefully this evening will cool down quickly and the really heavy stuff will arrive on queue 🤞

Yeah, amber warning was always from later in the afternoon. I'm not overly worried, think tomorrow morning will produce some of the best pictures and disruption! Snow definitely getting heavier now so that should counter any melt.

  2. Still snowing lightly in Rounhay. Measured just under a cm on the bin. Has stuck everywhere bar tarmac (it's starting on the paving slabs). Temp -0.5c. I see the ppn is invergating further south. Hopefully a nice top up for the south of the region. Models look good though a case of now casting here on in. Snow should arrive mid morning - fingers crossed for a good event!

Cold and frosty initially, perhaps dry first thing before mix of snow, sleet and rain spreads northeastwards through the morning, with wintry outbreaks through the afternoon and overnight. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Yeah, i thought an odd update given the warnings. Would have least thought reference to significant accumulations on higher ground..!

B eginning to stop here been melting as fast it fell for the last few hours so a dusting. Shows the effect of relative warm ground and probable polutants in the snow. The question for tomorrow how far north will tomorrows low go.

Indeed, i still think a slight risk areas in North Yorkshire might miss the heavier precipitation, but model consensus so far is the milder air shouldn't reach South Yorkshire and most of our region should see precipitation. Agreed with TWS that higher areas of South and West Yorkshire look prime!

My only grape about charts like that is it shows a very sharp decline in snow away from Pennine areas.. I would hate for it to be snowing like mad in cookridge (where i tried to buy a house last summer) but be in a snow shaddow here in Kippax, that woul really suck lol.. Last bbc shoed it ramping up over most yorkshire thursday evening though!

I wouldn't worry, i am in Roundhay and hope to do rather well. Hills will always do best! The main point is it shows snow from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning!

  6. Closely followed by the GFS. Brings the snow south a bit but not enough to worry us. A little less intense too, but aligns with the ICON in regards amount. Again, take with a pinch of salt these sorts of graphics. The main point is it shows snow for much of our region from mid day tomorrow until Friday morning, with varying intensity, and would align with the meto orange warning.

  7. On and off snow in Leeds too. Looks to be a heavier patch en-route. Not expecting a covering until tomorrow. Tonight looks interesting for the south of the region, will see if it reaches Leeds (am not hopeful). Model consensus appears in line with the meto warning. Looks good for higher areas of west and south Yorkshire (decent accumulations from tomorrow and inti Friday morning). Could be more marginal at times for lower areas, but suspect everyone will see a covering or snow falling. Either way we should all see some snow in the next 48hours- shame it took until March 😄

Hi Mark, thanks for the feedback / suggestion. It's a good idea, and something which should be possible (I think). I'll get it added as an idea for our development plan, and hopefully get it scheduled in at some point in the relatively near future.

In the meantime, you can also use the virtual stations to go back through the rainfall data for particular postcodes over time, if that's helpful (right back to 2011).

    Thanks Paul 🙂
