  1. Hmmm, I'm not so sure he should be allowed to be off if there's a chance of snow around these parts. If he's off having a great relaxing time, how are we going to get any insider info on here? Mr. F if you read this, please carry your laptop with you at all times, remember the mad snow fans in here and update us if there's any snow coming our way. There could be a drink in it for you...........
  2. What a glorious day it's been! I'm not too bothered if next week is cold or warm, or even if there's any snow, I'll be happy if it stays dry and sunny. I don't think I can remember a winter where dry and sunny has been in such short supply, seems like it's been wet and cloudy since about last March.
  3. I had a major sad person who should get out more moment today.....two Goldcrest's on the bird feeder, I was soooooo excited! Never seen them in the garden before.
  4. Here are some great pics of the big snow storm in the States last week, click on the picture of the buried cars and it takes you to a slide show. Depths of snow we can but dream of, but it has happened around here, it will happen again one day, hopefully in the not too distant future. http://usnews.nbcnew...northeast-storm And apparently, you can have too much of a good thing..... http://pistehors.com/news/ski/comments/1077-snow-too-much-of-a-good-thing/
  5. Just got home M, there's nowt on the hills although there are tiny flakes floating around in the wind - hubby texted earlier to say it was snowing in Shepton, it hasn't settled
  6. He lives just up the road, I'm sure he said earlier he was off out tonight, I'm off to pack his bags for him before he gets home, will deliver him to Bristol airport Asap.
  7. I've done an extensive search for a straw to clutch and I think I've found a beauty.....The massive snow storm over in the states today happened to fall on the 35th anniversary of the last big snow storm to hit Boston. Back in 1978, nine days after the storm hit Boston, we in the South West were hit by blizzards and massive drifts. I'm clutching on tightly to my straw of improbable coincidences and I'm not letting go. Massive dumping coming up for all us South Westerners, ETA 18th/19th February.
  8. There's currently the odd wet snowflake falling out of the sky here.
  9. Here are a few pics of what's currently flowering in the garden - Snowdrops, Aconites, Hellebore, Primrose, Pulmonaria (just started), a really dodgy pic of the Viburnum and some Rhubarb teasing me with it's not quite ready to eat phase - to force or not to force, that is the question.
  10. Seeing as you're getting up at lunatic o'clock, I presume I can wake up to a nice snowman you've built on my front lawn for me?
  11. Currently it's pouring with rain with lightening and incredibly strong winds. Shame it's too warm for snow, the drifting would be immense!
  12. Who fancies a bet on it being a white Easter this year? Statistically, we're more likely to have a white Easter than a white Christmas, Easter Sunday this year is March 31st - I'm betting on it being a snowy one. The sum total of my meteorological knowledge and wisdom on which this forecast is based is zilch.
  13. My Daffs are no where near out but they're fairly late ones anyway. Snowdrops, Primroses, Hellebores and Aconites are all flowering away though, I'll take some pics tomorrow (empty head and dodgy memory permitting).
  14. Oh don't. The older I get, the harder it gets to remain motivated about my career; the glimmer of hope which gets me through the Winter is the prospect of warmth and sunshine through the Summer. Another Summer like the last one and I'll be struggling not to throw the towel in completely.
  15. More of a Storming Norman then.... it's scary when the daft things jump into water with absolutely no regard to their own safety, they seem completely oblivious to any danger. My Spaniels are polar opposites with water, Hedley will make a beeline for any water, has to check out every puddle just in case they're deep enough for a swim. Chester on the other hand gives every drop a wide berth, with the exception of the sea and then he's straight in.
  16. I don't know what the temperature has been today but I've been stuck up a very high ladder pruning Wisteria, with the wind blowing and at times tipping down with sleety rain, it felt blinking cold! If it's not going to snow, or at least be dry and frosty, then I'd like to fast forward to mid April please, bored with being cold and wet. Roll on Summer.
  17. A bone dry Lab with water around????? How on earth did you manage that?
  18. Morning All, please can you quit the sniping now. Although last night's fishiness was completely off topic, it was at least pleasant to read and showed you can all get along when you want to. I've deleted some posts, no one really wants to start their day on here by reading grumpy, argumentative posts. We may have a lot to look forward to this week, it's really not worth falling out about when it hasn't even happened yet.
  19. Forgive me for this totally off topic post....Somerset is due to become the first rural county with no Countryside Service. The final decision for this is to be made on February 6th, if it is passed (as looks likely) then all countryside and environmental concerns/projects will have little, if any support or financial backing. We live in a beautiful part of the world with a diverse ecology, it needs all the help it can get to protect it, please take a few seconds to read the links below and please, please email your local councillor if you disagree with this proposed plan. Many thanks. http://mikerigby.org/2013/01/25/somerset-rural-county-countryside-service/ http://www.somersetwildlife.org/cuts_challenge
  20. Yep, was only thinking that this morning. Mine are up and flowering, Valentines day is the usual marker for mine so they're a couple of weeks early. The Aconites are in full bloom too but they're bang on schedule. Climbing Roses are looking a bit too keen to start growing, shoot tips beginning to unfurl. Oddly the Ivy which is usually full of ripe berries now, is sporting a tiny crop of unripe berries and flowers - the Blackbirds and Pigeons are seriously miffed, it's their preferred food at this time of year, they keep pecking at them then spitting them out.
  21. Afternoon all. We've still got complete snow cover here, really very little has melted but the strong gusty breeze has blown some of it off the trees. I know we're forecast for perhaps a little snow before it all turns to rain, but I can't help wonder if we'll keep it as all snow for a while. We've had a few flakes blowing around most of the day and currently it's definitely cold enough for snow, but what's made me wonder most of all was my journey back from Bristol - the gritting teams are going bonkers! Perhaps it was because they were caught out the other night so they're not taking any chances, but genuinely I've seen more grit on the roads today and more side roads gritted, than I think I've ever seen around here. Do they know something we don't?
  22. This is amazing http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2267993/Pprtland-Arctic-sea-smoke-Chicago-warehouse-frozen-burning-days-later.html
