  1. Completely off topic (I've sent myself to the naughty step) but couldn't resist sharing this..... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2267993/Pprtland-Arctic-sea-smoke-Chicago-warehouse-frozen-burning-days-later.html WOW!!!!!
  2. It's bitterly cold out there this morning, without a doubt the coldest it's been throughout this wintry spell. Wouldn't it be nice if the forecasters have under estimated the strength of the cold and in stead of rain it falls as snow, with the cold Easterly holding fast against the warm, forcing the soggy old Atlantic to turn tail and run after it's dumped a foot of snow. It wouldn't be the first time it's happened........ Yeah I know, dream on and all that.
  3. Your wish is my command.....The one with Hedley the Spaniel was taken this morning, the rest are from 5 mins ago, as you can see not a lot has melted today.
  4. Just been out to top up the bird food and saw the Moon for the first time, in what seems like weeks. Today is one of those days where I wish I could make time stand still, just freeze frame the Sun and the snow for a couple more weeks, keep the boring old rain at bay for a while longer.
  5. It's a tad chilly up here on these hills....But doesn't the snow look wonderful with the Sun beginning to set.
  6. What a glorious day it's been, wall to wall sunshine. Still have almost complete snow cover here, snow has barely melted, with the Sun shining on it, it looks even better. Must still be quite chilly around here, tried to clear the snow off the bonnet and roof of the landy this morning but gave up as it was frozen solid - I've driven 30 miles to work and back, it's been parked in the Sun all day but it's still got a good 2 inches all over it. I'm not sure I'm quite ready to say goodbye to the snow, it's so much prettier than the boring old mud we'll be left with after the weekend.
  7. Just looked at the radar, that large blob of precipitation centred over the South coast seems to be filling and spreading in all directions as it moves North. METO update has me down for light snow all day so I'm guessing they're not expecting it to warm up.
  8. There's been no over night thaw here but no real addition over night either. Currently it's snowing, it's been steady for at least an hour. Was forced to spoil the perfect snow cover in the garden this morning my poor giant Box balls were sagging and splitting apart under the weight of it all. Birds have been in a feeding frenzy, they've clearly decided life's too short and it's too bleeding cold to bother squabbling, not a flicker of aggro as all the different species tucked in together.
  9. Oh stop being so grumpy. Enjoying snow doesn't mean you don't give two hoots about anyone else.
  10. I've just realised that the snow from Friday, the bit overnight last night and the stuff from tonight add up to a grand total of eleven and a half inches! It would have been better if none of it had thawed in between times, but nigh on a foot of snow is not bad given this is the mild SW. I feel a bit like Oliver with his porridge bowl, but please Sir, may I have some more? Please, please, please can that gaping hole showing on the radar, fill in with snow and carry on all night.
  11. I'm pretty sure that whether people love snow or hate it, it actually makes no difference to what weather we get.
  12. Hubby's just got home. It's taken him just under three and a half hours to travel 7 miles! Apparently the trouble on the A37 is due to lorries not being able to move and simply parking up in the middle of the road and loads of abandoned cars. Once he managed to get to the A37, he cut across country, if he'd stuck to the main route he'd still be there. AVOID THE A37!!!!!!!
  13. It's eased off here now, hubby still not made it home, in fact hasn't even got as far as the A37 yet - total gridlock. Here's a couple of dodgy pics I've just taken in the garden, as you can see, we've had a nice top up to what was still laying.
  14. If anyone is venturing out around here, have a look at this first: http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/somerset It really is a bit bonkers around here at the mo.
  15. No I haven't had time - I'm a gardener, been at work all day, no computers in the garden. Spent the day clearing the mess from the last lot, the weight of the snow cracked several panes of glass in the big greenhouses - had to make those safe. Also an ancient Yew tree lost a huge bough due to weigh too.
  16. Hubby's got a disco, I've got a Defender, if you can't get him home, PM me, one of us will manage it.
  17. So, any ideas how long this is going to last? An hour or two or longer?
  18. From what hubby said it's already blocked with folk not able to move up or down, if this keeps up, I imagine they'll shut it. Paul's hoping to at least get as far as the A37 then he can skip across it and go the back lanes to home, via Stoke St Michael - he's got a Discovery so at least he won't get stuck.
  19. I think a lot of folk are abandoning their cars, it's carnage out there.
  20. It's absolutely yacking down here. If there's anyone local who's planning on going anywhere near Shepton Mallet via A37 or A3139 - CHANGE YOUR ROUTE! Hubby's just rung, he's been trying to get out of Shepton for the last half an hour, every way in and out is blocked solid with traffic, most of which is stuck, cars spinning around all over the place, nothing getting up the hills out of town or on the main roads.
  21. Does anyone know if it's expected to warm up dramatically before the precipitation gets here later? Currently, it's all frozen solid around here and last night was the coldest it's been for some time.
  22. Morning peeps, keep it friendly eh. There will always be winners and losers when it comes to snow, but it's not worth getting grumpy about it. Anyone who really can't resist having a moan about it all should post their grump in here:
  23. This is the info sent to hubby this afternoon, it's the official METO release to the council: Tonight (Monday night) another weather system will move across Southwestern England from around 0300 and it's likely to bring another spell of rain and sleet to many areas, but this will gradually turn to snow, with the snowfall then continuing throughout the remainder of Tuesday. Snowfall amounts look likely to be enough to give some problems on the transport network throughout Tuesday and our current best estimate is we see amounts of the order of 2-5cm of snow possible in parts of Avon & Somerset, Dorset and perhaps Western parts of Gloucestershire (Forest of Dean) and Wiltshire as well, and we may see as much as 10cm in some higher communities. We will shortly have a yellow warning on our website highlighting this forecast. However there is a reasonable chance that snowfall rates could be rather higher during Tuesday, perhaps enough to give us a similar level of widespread disruption to transport networks across that we saw on Friday. Snowfall levels of this rate would prompt us to issue an Amber warning, and if we see increasing evidence for this higher snowfall scenario over the next few hours we will issue an Amber warning later this afternoon. Further ahead we'll see cold temperatures continue towards the end of the week, although there doesn't seem to be a risk from further spells of snowfall.
