  1. More or less ties in with the latest updates to the met office forecasts .....there's very little snow in the forecast for here now for tomorrow/wed. BUT this has changed twice today already so maybe will change again.
  2. I tend to agree with the posts above ...... you are better off going with what you know for your own location. For a small (ish) part of the UK we often have vastly differing weather conditions within a few miles ...... snow for one is rain for another etc etc. Models/forecasts are great but they can often be wrong.
  3. Thursday was always looking dodgy for how far north the ppn would make it. The models always seem to over estmate the strength of the fronts and under estimate the strength of the cold air block. The SE wind direction also doesnt help imby.
  4. Met office forecast updated ..... now showing snow for my location from tomorrow night through to wed morning ..... ties in with the colder air moving in after the initial front passes through, and the change in wind direction. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcw1fe28j#?date=2019-01-30
  5. That euro4 cant be right .... it actually has Preston in the snow
  6. Personally at 24 hrs out I usually go with the met office forecasts - normally pretty accurate for here at least. Despite what the GFS is showing, past experience suggests that the front on thurs will not make it here. Tomorrow those nearer the coasts going to have to wait until the showers hopefully pop up later on in the night for a shot at some snow - pretty much standard stuff and nothing really out of the ordinary.
  7. For here at least i think we are going to have to wait until the main band of ppn moves through and look to rely on any showers that come afterwards. Those forecasts posted above off the met office web site show what a difference 10 miles can make when temps are on the borderline between rain and snow. Looking at the temps for the rest of the week if anyone gets snow tomorrow it may stick around for a while.
  8. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcw1fe28j#?date=2019-01-29 I'll say no more
  9. Tomorrow not looking great for the ususl suspects west of the M6. All forecasts currently pointing to cold rain/sleety mix. Further inland snow chances look significantly better. I'd expect modifications to the northwards push of that front on thurs as well.
  10. Thats a typical snow from the south ppn spread. It never gets this far.
  11. Get her a tent ... you'll be ok ... just tell her it never snows in the North West job done !
  12. Couple of trees come down during the afternoon blocking roads in Peeston. Didn't realise it had been that windy.
  13. Its the thought that counts at least id get a better view of the snow on the hills further inland ......
  14. As long as there is some kind of westerly element to the wind i really cannot see the region missing out on the ppn. Granted some will get more showers than others but any westerly and most will get showers ....... but as usual with wind from the west we need it to be cold enough to produce snow. I'd expect further adjustments to the track of the low as well.
  15. I can't help thinking that the low will end up further south, but we are in with a shout from the showery w/ nw beforehand. As usual it needs to be cold enough.
  16. Same for here. Has us down for a dry cloudy day tues with w/sw winds. Im not sure about that low, they usually end up going south of here, liverpool/manchester area. Still not getting carried away with it all yet.
  17. Depends .... you could get lucky and end up under a streamer. A NW'ly is perfect for here as long as its cold enough. Time will tell.
  18. Ill take 2 or 3 days of snow showers from a cold nw, just enough to give us a decent covering then the rest of you lot can have your easterly. No one misses out and we all go into spring happy bunnies ....
  19. Nailed on .... what could go wrong I'll get my coat (may be needing it looking at that)
  20. Probably the main reasoin i don't visit the forum as often as i used to .... the constant bickering and toys out of pram when the best from the east doesn't appers in the MO thread. I can understand it though as i suppose there are many more members in those areas who post ... but still theres no need for the majority of the hysteria. Try balancing it out with a touch of realism from another part of the country though and thats when the fun really starts ...... Anyway, we got a little bit of snow here on Tuesday with some snow that settled on tuesday night that was still there on wed morning. As others have said next week shows some potential for another dusting .... wind direction again good for us in this part of the world just need the temps to be on the right side of marginal. Fingers crossed. .
  21. That area of ppn to the w nw of barrow looks like it could surprise a few ..... hope its cold enough here when it arrives
  22. Rain and sleety mix on and off all day. Bit of snow this morning further west of here, currently hail shower .... may leave a covering as temps have dropped a bit. Nothing unusual for here really. ... its actually raining at the moment
  23. Hold the front page .... 24 hrs out what could possibly go wrong https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcw1fe28j#?date=2019-01-22
