  1. Yes .... looks as though we will miss out on the majotity of the heavy ppn here, and what does fall will be mostly rain/sleet mix. It's just a case of a return to the normal as regards snow for us here. We've not done too badly this winter for this location , there are still snow patches dotted around from last weekend so as for snow and cold its a massive difference to either of the last 2 winters. Certainly looks as though those further inland as you say will be in for a reasonable covering during the next 24hrs or so.
  2. There we go .... marginality west of the M6 back to normal then
  3. For a change nothing marginal here. Its all snow and has filled in the gaps where the NYE snow melted yesterday. Only a light covering but nice to actually see a bit of winter weather. As long as it holds together I'm sure those further south will see snow as well.
  4. Snowing here as well, ground frozen and its sticking quite easily. Nice big flakes too
  5. Fingers crossed it makes it. Just starting to cloud over here now.
  6. Assume this warning relates to the area of snow currently moving into south Cumbria ?
  7. Feast or famine snowing again here. Happy New Year all. Here's to a better 2021.
  8. Most of the time we seem to be on the dividing line where the rain stops and the snow starts. There's plenty of occasions where it's raining here and snowing 2 or 3 miles down the road in Grimsargh/Longridge. Fine margins and all that.
  9. We have snow on the ground in Preston for the first time in 2 years. Only a slight dusting but its definitely snow and not a hard frost
  10. Rain here. Surprised the ppn made it to be honest. The stuff from the east normally fizzles out before it reaches here.
  11. Nothing to see here. Currently heavy rain, had a bit of hail mixed in before but its been mostly rain here.
  12. Rain on and off this morning. Met office updated warnings for tonight. Fear we will be on the wrong side of marginal here, but looks good if its snow you want further inland though.
  13. I probably am .... im losing the plot as i get older thats why i couldn't believe it was 10 years ago when i saw a couple of other posts recounting 2010. Was perhaps 2012/2013 ??? Crikey it doesn't snow that often here you'd think i could remember when it actually does
  14. Cant believe its 10 years since we got the heaviest snowfall we've had here in my lifetime and potentially for over 80 years if my dads memory was correct. We had snow here for 5 consecutive nights giving some depths normally reserved for those higher up and well inland We actually had a more sustained snow covering than the frontal snow event of feb 1996 (think the date is correct) Can't help but notice that for those nearer the coast this just doesnt have the oomph at the moment to give snowfall. Needs to be a fair bit colder from my experience especially when you factor in the westerly element in the wind. Nice to at least have a bit of seasonal weather to look at rather than the incessant rain and greyness that has dominated for such a long time.
  15. Light rain here. Nice to see snow covering the tops this morning though. Parlick and all the fells up through the trough of bowland all had a decent enough covering this morning.
  16. Complete flip here. Rain almost all day yesterday and its raining again today. Garden is green again and the lawn is back to its winter state of being under water.
  17. looking at the current radar images its groundhog day x 3 here
  18. Another dry day here yesterday. All the storms passed to the N S E and W of here
  19. Nothing here other than a heavyish shower around 6.30.
  20. Still not much rain at all here. Will be out watering the pots again tonight. May catch a shower on saturday by the looks of it, but standard fayre for here up to now from an easterly flow.
  21. Some rain here overnight, but nothing significant which is what is needed at the moment. Looks like a slight chance of a shower over the next day or 2 before a greater chance of some rain friday night into saturday before it seems to dry up again. Forecast Looked at the rainfall radar from last night and the shadow effect was really in play for this part of the NW.
  22. Yes agreed. Any kind of E in the wind direction for us here and you can more or less forget about rain. Even in the cooler spells we managed some sun to take any chill off the temps. Just like Damian said above, at the moment there doesnt seem to be any half way house, its either bone dry or your left wondering when the rain is going to stop ...... nothing in between.
  23. Interesting reading the above .... since the start of the covid lockdown (end march) its been notably dry here in this part of the NW. Little or no frontal rainfall, we had a thunderstorm late March i seem to remember but as for prolonged rainfall nothing of any note since the floods in Feb. Looking at the forecast for the next 7 days there's no rain on the horizon either. Reservoirs - well below normal levels
