  1. Met off has us down for heavy snow here again from 5 till 9 am ..... Big upgrade for here from when I last looked at around 7pm. Good luck all , hope at least some of us wake to a winter wonderland ...
  2. Well I've just seen something I've not seen on one of Preston's roads all winter ...... A gritter. They must be in full on panic mode if the roads round here are being gritted.
  3. Well thats the very definition of on a knife edge !! Will wait and see what happens the amount of times the forecast has changed today i'd still say its not nailed on. Looks good for those to the east and south of the region though
  4. Wooaaahhh All i did was post what the forecaster said on BBC and i've opened a real can of worms and feel like i'm about to be thrown into the clutches of an angry mob with pitchforks and flaming torches at the ready FWIW the forecast for tomorrow is changing by the hour at this range .. its really interesting stuff
  5. Yes thats what he said .... Video on here has it as a polar low as well this is the same forecast i heard on the radio this am https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather
  6. I've only seen a couple and they have come down the west coast running direct N to S. I do know they are difficult to pick up which is probably why there is still uncertainty about the track. Someone who knows a bit more than me may be able to give you a better answer here ...
  7. I would think we'll find out soon enough - it seems daft that the main UK free to air broadcaster and the met office both seem at odds with each other. Will wait and see if theres any update to the warnings bacause at the moment even for this part of Lancs we are under 5-6 hrs of snow and that warrants at least a touch of the yellow crayon
  8. Interesting listening to that BBC forecast. He described it as a polar low - and seemed confident of it passing east of the pennines, causing a few headaches in the east midlands tomorrow. Met office forecast has it passing over us. Not seen two localish forecasts so different at this short timescale for a while .... first BBC vs UKMET battle anyone ?? one has to be wrong.
  9. It didnt snow in my part of preston either so you're not on yr own Listening to the BBC forecast has tonights low missing us and heading into Lincs and the East Midlands. Thats a radio forecast i've just heard. But this met office forecast has just changed and i have to say i'm shocked but looking at the wind direction i'm not surprised. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcw1fe28j#?date=2018-02-27
  10. Very cold dry and sunny here. Can actually see the cloud bank breaking up towards the east before it reaches here leaving us with just a scattering of clouds.
  11. I have been trying to say since the beginning of last week ... Easterly set ups rarely deliver any snow for this part of the NW. It's no one's fault, no one hates us ? it's just the way it is - regardless of what the charts have been saying you have to use your own personal experiences of these kind of set ups ..... Cold dry and sunny week ahead nothing at all unusual in that. If you like the snow yes it's frustrating and bloody annoying.
  12. Well as expected we are now out of the warning areas here and are looking at a cold dry week - forecasts from the ukmet back this up. Fridays low I expect something broadly similar to the low that moved up from the south in cold air in 2013 (snow cover picture attached a few pages ago) areas to the west of here got quite a decent covering out of that whilst we were under the snow shadow. Coastal areas could do quite well if it stays cold enough, alot to be decided on this LP yet though but it looks similar atm to that low in 2013.
  13. Change your location to Watford or somewhere in Kent I'm sure it'll stick around for a while longer if you do ?
  14. I really think we need to remember there are 2 distinct "areas" in our region. We have been here already this winter, snowmageddon charts statements suggesting widespread snow etc etc. I have in my 40+ years never seen significant snow here direct from an easterly set up. This is where some of the posts are misleading I am sure those near the Pennines will get snow - possibly a significant amount - but please remember it is a totally different story for those who live lower down and nearer the coast. Even the charts posted on the previous pages although showing the possibility of snow for here the amounts are minimal, although admittedly they are there. I still expect a mainly dry and cold week here with the potential for light snow mon\tues. All obviously IMBY but as for widespread heavy snow i just can't see it.
  15. Seems fair enough to me. Usual areas getting snow usual areas missing out. One constant is at least it won't be mild.
  16. Chris an IMBY reply All i can say is my dad who was 87 when he passed away last year said the snow we had in the run up to Christmas 2010/11 was the most severe he'd seen in Preston and he was a Prestonian from birth.
  17. There was yes. We were in the so called snow shadow here as well. I remember the photo someone posted of the UK under snow with 2 green patches - one in the Manchester area and the other in this part of Lancashire. Think this was it ?? Taken from the met office site.
  18. I think talking of snow and upgrades at the moment is all a little premature. We have seen already that snow charts and predictions from the models are wildly inaccurate (the recent tepid NW blast for one) there were charts being posted on here showing us all under inches of snow - we got into the realistic time frames and surprise surprise nothing even close to those "armageddon" charts materialised. I see something similar happening this time - you have to use your own personal experiences when looking at these outputs. IMBY easterly winds will bring dry and cold weather backed up at the moment by this https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcw1fe28j#?date=2018-02-28 Yes i know that forecast goes out to a week away but i'd take forecast that over a GFS or ECM prediction any day of the week. For here at least I expect little change from this even when/if we see bands of showers trying to head over the pennines. Seeing posts in the MO thread and to a lesser extent in here of widespread snow and disruption are IMO a little misleading. Yes some will get snow in our region but widespread .... I really cannot see it.
  19. Funny isn't it ...thats almost the identical area (west of the M6) that misses out on the white stuff when it comes from the "other" direction as well - nothing new but like you say you cannot make it up
  20. May be low res but won't be far off the mark. We are very sheltered here from any precipitation from both the east and south east especially when the offshore winds kick in - so i expect IMBY to be mainly dry and cold. I may even stick my neck out now and say we may well end up being the only part of the country that remains green and not white.
  21. Well for my neck of the woods an Easterly is about as mush use as some of the tepid NW blasts we've already had this winter. I'd expect nothing more than clear dry days with cold frosty nights - any convection fizzling out over the pennines and any fronts pushing up from the s/se stalling as usual over the merseyside/gtr manchester area. The met office seem fairly sure some kind of continental flow will develop looking at their long range output, will be interesting to see how this develops.
  22. Looks like tonight might be one of those rare occasions when imby we are in a prime location for snow showers. Still snowing after the hit from both the blob and the sausage (after it looked like it would miss us)
