  1. Wet, mild, windy and miserable sums it up for me. Did not see 1 flake of falling snow here. Admittedly we never get much lying snow here, but to not see any at all is a bit rare.
  2. I've got a 90% chance of precipitation with no snow
  3. Agree 100%. They've systematically ruined the W/NW side of Preston. No proper infrastructure being provided, schools, doctors, community areas ..... roads as they were before the houses etc etc. And as you say there will be problems when we get rainfall like yesterday. Just to add to what i was saying before i've found the river data : River level information for River Ribble at Samlesbury - GOV.UK FLOOD-WARNING-INFORMATION.SERVICE.GOV.UK Check your risk of flooding: get current flood warnings, river and sea levels, check the 5-day forecast or use flood risk maps
  4. https://www.blogpreston.co.uk/2020/02/roads-closed-fields-flooded-and-a-cancelled-concert-storm-ciara-takes-its-toll-on-preston/ For sustained river levels yes 2015 was worse, but the speed and severity of the rise in the river level this was much worse. I've not seen the road down to samelsbury closed before by the police due to flooding, let alone both slip roads onto and off the M6 at jn31. I think it was more the speed which the river rose that caught alot of people out ..... there was water in places i've never seen water before. Now that could have alot to do with all the new houses being built as well and a lack of proper drainage but thats another story entirely.
  5. Quite a storm today really. We are still seeing the effects here at the moment. River Ribble has reached its highest ever recorded level at 17.30 of 6.42 meters at the Samelsbury gauge. M6 has been closed on and off all afternoon, Preston station remains shut and fhe main rd from Preston to Blackburn is closed as the bridge crosses that crosses the river is deemed unsafe. Numerous properties and businesses are flooded - I've never seen anything like it in my lifetime.
  6. Wouldn't be surprised to see it intensify again as it moves out over Morecambe Bay. Theres a few cells N/NW of Barrow at the moment. Nothing here other than light rain a few rumbles. The storm to my East just died and pretty quickly too.
  7. I'm just N of Carnforth and its thundering here .... no rain yet although its not far away looking at the sky.
  8. .... And you are further inland than we are here we seem to be in our own little micro climate as far as snow is concerned in this part of the country ..... thats why I hate it when the media in general use terms like widespread and countrywide. I mean its even snowing in Newquay ......
  9. We were on the very northerly edge of the ppn from tuesday night. Left a cm here and there - some of which is still around this morning. There's hardly any snow at all north of Preston, but all the hills to the east of the M6 are snow covered and the lakeland fells all look well covered. We've had more snow over the past 7 days here from showers that we got over the whole of last winter - admittedly not alot by some folks standards but for here up to now its been a snowy winter
  10. No idea why thats there ..... If that euro 4 is to be believed its game over for those of us north of the m58.
  11. That counts as a major snow event for this part of Lancashire
  12. I feared that .... but the fax chart doesn't really tie in with the forecasts - for here at least Its a case of wait and see.
  13. Seems strange as the wind direction for here changes to WSW then SW after midnight.
  14. It is .... but they need to set up in the right pllace for us .... the optimist in me says we'll get the showers .... the realist looking at the wind direction says we need more of a NW not the SW thats forecast into tomorrow.
  15. Perhaps a streamer but its heading into W/SW cumbria
  16. I fear that after the will it wont it snow of today those of us further north in the region may also miss out on the fun overnight as well. Those ppn charts and the latest met office forecast do not bode well for those further north. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcw1fe28j#?date=2019-01-29 https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcw1fe28j#?date=2019-01-30
  17. An improvement on rainy sleet .... we have niether here. I like to keep it simple .... its raining
  18. Unless of course if you live between preston and lancaster
  19. Showers already starting to move into Scotland and N Ireland. Mostly snow looking at the radar as well.
  20. Things are looking up folks ..... the rain is getting colder here
  21. Cold wet and thoroughly miserable here. No sign of any snow - its 2.5c.
  22. You aren't the only ones ... we have the same shadow effect here where snow is concerned .... and again it doesn't have the same effect when the rain comes from the same direction
