  1. To answer your question .... yes, yes it is. Last winter we missed 99% of all the ppn from the east, the stalling fronts coming up from the south all get as far as chorley/leyland stop and fizzle. I remember going out for a drink with a few friends last yr in Euxton there were piles of snow at the sides of the roads ... thats only 10 miles at most south of here. There are several sat photos that show the apparent shadow effect we are under for snow here .... NW/W for the ppn but it has to be cold enough, on the rare occasions it is we can get a bit of a covering here ... but more often than not its a wintry mix at best.
  2. W/NW wind direction we usually get plenty of showers here ....... doesn't look like it'll be cold enoiugh for snow tomorrow (we gat rain here when its minus 10 ) but further inland its looking good for you folk (if you like snow that is)
  3. That looks like that christmas day chart from the early 2000s that gave us a decent covering
  4. Looking at the radar i'd think those higher up and further east may get a bit of a covering out of this
  5. vwry little ppn reached here .... what did was rain and drizzle.
  6. Well it didn't last year and i see nothing that suggests even anything remotley different for this winter ... perfectly illustrated by the fantasy chart posted above
  7. Really not much to get excited about as far as snow is concerned for this part of the NW (as usual) .... as soon as the post count in the MO thread picks up I don't even need to check that the so called beast from the east is back on the agenda and the usual "everyone will see a dumping from this" etc etc etc ..... you have to laugh. Before i go back into my snowless hole .... it is a really cracking day here the endless grey murk has been replaced by clear blue skies and low temps, a refreshing change.
  8. Shocked to hear this news this morning. Thoughts with her family. RIP.
  9. Looks like fairly standard summer weather for the next few days IMBY - but even thats better than whats been on offer for the past few years https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcw1fv42w#?date=2018-07-25
  10. Cloudy and wet again this morning, 17.5 c though at least its mild
  11. 4th successive day with rain here. Moderate rain this morning dying out at the moment but it looks grey over to the west could be a bit more on the way.
  12. Not seen much sun for a few days here either. Can tell it's hot in the SE with all the knicker wetting in the mo thread. Rain friday, drizzle yesterday and more of the same today, cloudy and damp at the moment. Looks like the week ahead promises more of the same with a more noticeable nw/se split. Whilst we may miss out on most of the rain it looks like cloud and dampness will persist. Been a great spell of weather up to now though .... but it just had to end when the schools shut for summer didn't it !
  13. Finally had a bit of rain here yesterday. Light showery bits and bobs in the morning with a heavier burst for around an hr around 5pm. Again though almost all the really heavy stuff skirted around us passing either up the coast of over towards Blackburn way. Not going to start banging on about the hosepipe ban ..... its the old story about leaking pipes etc .... we live in one of the wettest parts of the country and yet UU are the first (bar N Ireland) to impose a ban ....
  14. So much for an unsettled spell here. Even the frontal rainfall forecast for tomorrow seems to be steadily fizzling out. Rest of the week looks mostly dry as well. We missed thurs/fridays storms here, ground is still bone dry even after that small amount of rain on friday morning. High pressure looking to move back the longer the week progresses as well. Been one of the longest dry spells i can remember here.
  15. Bit of rain here this morning, not a massive amount though. Think this cloud may have killed the potential for any storms here this afternoon, but you never know if the sun comes out later on. Weekend looks mainly dry as well so its not all bad !
  16. I don't keep records but the last rainfall we had here was from a thunderstorm on the second May bank holiday. Would really like to see an approx figure for the rainfall since the start of May.
  17. More of the same today sun sun and more sun Winter hill fire now a major emergency with the 2 separate fires merging into one. The smoke blowing across the M61 and over Chorley totally blocks out the sun, a bit eerie really.
  18. Makes you wonder what goes through the mind of some folk ....... Sky News reporting man arrested on suspicion of arson re the Winter hill fire .... words fail me https://news.sky.com/story/man-arrested-over-fire-at-winter-hill-near-bolton-11420798
  19. Oh dear .... i'm assuming theres some kind of easterly flow involved there then ? looks like some of the ppn charts that were posted throughout the cold easterly events during the winter.
  20. I would have to say that i agree with this sentiment. Just had a gander at the MO thread and there doesn't seem anything containing anything wet in the outlook for the foreseeable .....
  21. Will I hope your mum makes a swift and full recovery. Best wishes to you all.
