& east of the M6 the precip shadow will likely limit accumulations into the early hours. Nonetheless, some sizeable accumulations will occurr locally, Peak District, Staffordshire, maybe Blackburn & Burnley way.

Yes .... looks as though we will miss out on the majotity of the heavy ppn here, and what does fall will be mostly rain/sleet mix.

It's just a case of a return to the normal as regards snow for us here.  We've not done too badly this winter for this location , there are still snow patches dotted around from last weekend so as for snow and cold its a massive difference to either of the last 2 winters.

Certainly looks as though those further inland as you say will be in for a reasonable covering during the next 24hrs or so.

    Cheers

Used to live nr Black Bull - highest climbout from Town - always faired well with even that meagre elevation.

Most of the time we seem to be on the dividing line where the rain stops and the snow starts. There's plenty of occasions where it's raining here and snowing 2 or 3 miles down the road in Grimsargh/Longridge. Fine margins and all that.

Are you mixing your memories with Jan 2010, here we had barely more than an inch cover on the ground by Christmas Eve 2010, and I don't recall any part of the NW having anything notably deep snow wise. Correct me if wrong.

I probably am .... im losing the plot as i get older thats why i couldn't believe it was 10 years ago when i saw a couple of other posts recounting 2010. Was perhaps 2012/2013 ??? Crikey it doesn't snow that often here you'd think i could remember when it actually does

  4. Cant believe its 10 years since we got the heaviest snowfall we've had here in my lifetime and potentially for over 80 years if my dads memory was correct. We had snow here for 5 consecutive nights giving some depths normally reserved for those higher up and well inland  We actually had a more sustained snow covering than the frontal snow event of feb 1996 (think the date is correct)

Can't help but notice that for those nearer the coast this just doesnt have the oomph at the moment to give snowfall. Needs to be a fair bit colder from my experience especially when you factor in the westerly element in the wind.

Nice to at least have a bit of seasonal weather to look at rather than the incessant rain and greyness that has dominated for such a long time.

  5. Some rain here overnight, but nothing significant which is what is needed at the moment.

Looks like a slight chance of a shower over the next day or 2 before a greater chance of some rain friday night into saturday before it seems to dry up again.

    Forecast

Looked at the rainfall radar from last night and the shadow effect was really in play for this part of the NW.

    Incredibly dry and incredibly sunny.

It certainly hasn’t been day after day of warmth up here and some some days have been decidedly coolish especially back in April and parts of early May when we had a nagging easterly wind but some decent heat has certainly arrived now and the 25c my thermometer is showing is plenty warm enough for me.

all I all though, I can’t remember a better period of spring weather.

Yes agreed.  Any kind of E in the wind direction for us here and you can more or less forget about rain.  Even in the cooler spells we managed some sun to take any chill off the temps.

Just like Damian said above, at the moment there doesnt seem to be any half way house, its either bone dry or your left wondering when the rain is going to stop ...... nothing in between.

  7. Interesting reading the above .... since the start of the covid lockdown (end march) its been notably dry here in this part of the NW.  Little or no frontal rainfall, we had a thunderstorm late March i seem to remember but as for prolonged rainfall nothing of any note since the floods in Feb. Looking at the forecast for the next 7 days there's no rain on the horizon either.

Reservoirs - well below normal levels
