  1. Hasn't snowed in this neck of the woods for a few hours now, but have a slight covering from earlier on. Back roads a little slushy which are becoming rather slippery now and will no doubt be trecherous soon. BBC National Forecast 10.30 very interesting. Darren Bett even seemed to be ramping a bit. He said towards the end of the forecast "Cold weather continuing all next week with risk of snow in southern Britain Monday." He said that with a smile on his face!
  2. Yes, the way PC described it on BBC Weather South East was "low on Monday may produce some sleetyness". None to inspiring. However, the National weather looked more promising for the south on Sunday. Although not much detail at this stage.
  3. Just of interest, Peter Cockcroft on the BBC South East weather forecast said at the end "The good news is, it is likely to stay cold for the rest of the month!" Not often you here that!
  4. Now have lightish sleety snow here in Weybridge and very dark clouds. Perhaps an interesting afternoon to come?
  5. Yes, those places can be snow traps! I've heard many times that Hindhead/Devils Punchbowl has thick snow but with nothing nearby. I remember driving along the Hog's back once and there was thick snow on the ground, but by the time I got to Guildford, there was only just enough to cover the ground.
  6. Still sleety here ATM. Reckon places like Camberley about 10 miles away may see an inch or two before it turns to rain as that area is a little higher than here and often sees a few inches of snow when Woking only gets rain or a dusting. That would also tie in with the MO's warning extension to Hampshire.
  7. Well, from the time I saw it was snowing to the time it started turning to rain was about 35mins. So that could well place me at the top of the leader board! EDIT - Just checked and it's looking sleety now.
  8. Snow turning to rain here now. That's it for the time being.
  9. Absolutely. Hopefully a very exiting week to come.
  10. Ahh well, looks like I missed most of this afternoons snow. No falling snow for the last three hours. As others have said though, the chance of some more snow later this week, although, it looks at the moment to be a wet snow event according to PC on BBC South East forecast.
  11. Here's a few of many photos I took today. Had plenty of time due to being unable to get into work.
  12. Well, didn't get much snow here this afternoon, mainly fine light to moderate snow at best and now stopped altogether. However, I can't complain with 9.5 inches of lying snow!
  13. One word to describe the snow here - WOW! The most snow I've seen here in memory with depths approaching a foot! Heavy snow for much of the night, but not snowing at the moment. No chance of getting into work today.
  14. Ok, I'm going for a CET of 3.7C After a cold start, I think we'll see a milder spell (though not very mild) and then see things turn colder again around mid month.
  15. Yes, lets just hope this upcoming cold spell does deliver. Would certainly be a shame to only record 1cm of snow during a potentially coldest winter since 1995/96. Obviously the finer details will change over the coming days, but I am starting to get hopefull of seeing snow at some point during the next week or so. Fingers crossed!
  16. Damn!! Two areas of heavier precipitation. One over Kent & parts of Essex, the other over the Isle of Wight and clipping the coast south westwards. This leaves me bang in between in the lighter stuff! At least it's FI I suppose.
  17. Wow! Superb photos there A repeat performance for 6th February 2009 perhaps? Thanks for posting
  18. Not a bad forecast  but why no mention of the rest of Europe? If this forecast comes of, this Winter has very good chance of being the coldest since 1995/96. Not bad, but would be nice to see more in the way of snow during February.
  19. Well, this Winter has certainly turned out better that I expected it to temperature wise so far, although it's been pretty poor regarding snowfall. I'm not sure about February, but I think there's a good chance of a cold spell occuring at some point and this is supported by the stratospheric warming starting to take place now. Obviously, there are lots of other factors that need to come in to play though. As always, we'll see......
  20. No real changes expected then ATM. Wonder what the Winter forecast update will show tomorrow for February?
  21. Yes and the cold Winter weather continued through February and March which were both cold months with CET's of 2.5 and 4.5C. I suspect that had these forums been around in 1996, there would have been lots of doom and gloom on here in early January. So it does go to show... The other good example of a pear shaped Winter is 1996/7. In terms of wintery weather, Winter was over by mid January. As for this Winter, it's a matter of waiting and hoping. I have had concerns that this could be a pear shaped Winter, but it's still all to play for.
  22. Dark, grey, wind and rain here, although not as windy as over night. Seems such a long time ago since we last saw any rain. Feels pretty cool due to the brisk wind.
  23. Excellent photos Meteo. Certainly nice to look at, especially now that the milder atlantic weather is sweeping in after our long cold spell!
  24. Hurrah! Coldest December since 1996 and a sub 10C CET year. I wish (hope) this trend will continue for the next few years.
