  1. Looks like this winter is all over bar the bs. Another winter for the tip.
  2. I think its come to the stage that when forecasting a winter that if there has been a warm sept before it then it should be seriously given thought to be used with teleconnections etc.
  3. Yes i understood what summer of 95 meant, but its stlll nothing thing to do with sept. Im only talking about sept and a warm one at that as normally i would agree that why should a 30 day period have any effect weeks down the line. But imo a warm sept for whatever reason does seem to be a sign of a crap winter at least in more recent times. In my head by the end of last sept i had already pretty much written off this winter however i got reeled in by the hype later in the autumn and indeed there was positive signs at that point of perhaps an interesting winter. But i should have gone with my earlier thoughts and if i had i might have saved myself being more frustrated then usual this winter given the positive signs in oct/nov.
  4. It may not come in overly mild, but there is no getting away from it that this winter has been crap for proper cold and snow. The feeble attempt last weekend summed up this winter well, pretty pathetic. At my location a good number of days this winter the temp has gotten into double figures. Nearly half the days last month were in double figures here.
  5. One of my fears going into this winter despite positive signs during oct and nov was how warm sept was. I agree that a warm sept generally seems to be bad news if one wants the winter to a good one at least in recent yrs. All the hype last autumn seemed to ignore this fact. Yet again it been proven to be correct and isnt it a sept cet of 16.0c or greater has never been followed by a cold winter, yet again thats proven to be correct aswell, although not that theres been many of them. Maybe something that should be taken more seriously next sept especially those hunting late summer warmth in sept and still hoping for a cold winter.
  6. well that cold snap was real bottom of the barrel stuff, pathetic. Not that i was expecting it to be much better anyway. Perhaps the end of the month /start of march could deliver something half decent, but im sure there are some who dont give a toss at this stage considering the way this winter has gone.
  7. yep,the story of this winter so cant say im too surprised. Our cold spell now a cold snap with the usual watered down sh*te. When the chips are down the chips are down.We will get lucky at some stage with a major cold spell but it wont be happening this winter.
  8. I will be surprised if we get anything more then a half hearted cold spell. If we havent had much luck this winter and nothing much of note regards cold and snow i cant see things suddenly changing in our favour leading to a happy ending. When we are in a rubbish winter thats usually the way it remains imo. We are back yet again hoping for feb to save us but if dec and jan have been poor for cold thats not usually a good sign.
  9. Devil in disguise by elvis. After the way things looked back in november it looked likely this winter would produce. The models producing some great charts at times only to have led us up the garden path etc. Winter made a fool out of us this year. https://youtu.be/kyK_GbGuxyA
  10. When it comes to jan, i think the second half of the month in particular is becoming snowless. At my location i have not seen good snowcover,or much at all of a snowcover during the second half of jan since the 80s. I have not experianced at my location a real proper cold spell during the second of jan not since the 80s aswell.
  11. Yes a less active sun is what i would be pinning my hopes on over the next few winters, maybe its our only hope considering the way our winters seem to be going.
  12. I suppose for europe the signs were not too far wrong, but really thought we had a good chance this winter. It all started going wrong for us during the first week of dec, we just cant seem to get much cold our way no matter what happens.
  13. Wonder will people be more cautious next autumn , i know i will be. I will never trust any possible signs of a good winter during autumn again, long range models, snow advance index etc. etc. A load of old s**te.
  14. So looks like yet another second half of jan without any proper cold. Think the last time ireland had a proper cold spell during the second half of jan was back in the 80s.
  15. Think we will need an ssw for a chance of something decent this winter, our hopes will likely rest on it now. Imagine if one did happen and the likes of greece still got the cold and us nothing lol, that would be our luck.
  16. 3c and rain here. At least the proper cold air is now arriving up north.
  17. Been around the 4c mark here the last few hrs. Good luck to all tomorrow, hopefully many will see the white gold.
  18. I might scrape one Cm out of it if im Lucky. Lol
  19. If it is right about the easterly ireland always remains just outside the proper cold though according to the run, would be bloody typical . Early days yet of course though.
  20. Weather apps can be a load of sh**e anyway IMO.
  21. Still a hell of a lot better then sw Winds. Ireland is overdue a good easterly at some point, one where some real proper Cold reaches us from europe before running out of steam before it gets here.
