I suppose if hp weather with cold days and frost would have been second prize ,cold zonality is third prize, or to some perhaps the other way around. The charts the ecm is showing just before xmas reminds me a bit of the pm shot we had just before xmas 2013. The only thing about cold zonality is it rarely leds to anything better further down the line and more often then not eventually leds to mild zonality that would be the one worry i would have but for now im happy enough with what the ecm is showing. Anything is better then this current stuff.

Well it at least would shake the cobwebs off after this turgid bland uninteresting rubbish we have been enduring. This current weather just drains ones interest in the weather imo.

Yes it sure is frustrating,really hoped for better this yr. Hopefully jan will be better. As someone said in the mod thread we do seem to be stuck in a stalemate atm

I think our best chance atm would be for the hp move east out of the way and allow lps to come in from the atlantic with a chance of at least some pm shots. Not great but much better then the current rubbish. I think the undercut idea is probably unlikely,its often difficult to get that at the best of times these days.

Decembers recently have been terrible,from the mid 90s -2010 of course they werent often too bad with a reasonable amount of chilly days overall. The xmas periods in particular were often better for cold or at least a better chance of it overall then say the decembers of the 80s. It just seems so strange that since the epic Dec 2010 that decembers have become very poor for cold. Its almost as if dec 2010 used up our qouta of december cold for the following few yrs.

This weather doesnt do much for ones interest in the weather. Just dire,dull,mild rubbish. Reminds me of last dec only not as mild . The last Ten days here with the odd brighter day thrown in have just been a load of cack. It was bright earlier today for a while but of course the cloud has returned.

Starting at winter 87/88 our winters overall just havent been the same since. The cold spell of jan 87 was the last winter cold spell of our old climate thats the way i look at it,things changed after that. We need the sun no to do us favours now which it did 08-10, so on that line of thought i would not be surprised if we dont get a decent winter again until the early 20s.

This month is quickly turning into a farce. Oh well there's always Jan and Feb.....

To be fair though the autumn just gone was much more seasonal overall compared to last yr. Nov especially,nov 2015 apart from a very brief cold snap was dire. We didnt get much cold zonality last yr as far as i remember.

Its mad how during much of the autumn the possibility of a good winter or at least the first half looked a good bet. Here we are a week into winter and it seems to be all falling apart. Couldnt make it up really. Just shows as always what can go wrong for getting cold in this part of the world does go wrong. Not that ive given up hope yet or anything,but a lot of doubt must be creeping into peoples minds,mine included.

what was that statistic? A sept cet greater then 16.0c or thereabouts has never been followed by a cold winter. hmmmmmmmm

Things dont look too inspiring at the moment but hopefully come the second half of the month things will improve somewhat. Its often happened before that a decent cold spell follows a milder wetter period (if the mild doesnt become too entrenched of course,and i dont think it will) so hopefully that will be the case this time.

We seem to be going round and round in circles the last few weeks when it comes to gettiing a proper cold spell ,though granted its still only nov. 2 steps forward ,1 step back,1step forward 2 steps back..............etc. Its getting all a bit tedious imo in the model thread. Anyway still think we are in with a decent shout this yr but as always time will tell.

As much as I like HP this time if yr once there is plenty of sunshine and frost,there is on the other hand nothing more tedious then a cloudy HP . Just can't seem to win these days with either frost of snow. There is always a fly in the ointment. But anyway here's hoping later next month will deliver something of note. Patience as always.............

Amazing the differance in temps today across our wee island. Max temp here was 8.9c, currently 5.7c I really love frosty weather and when it lasts in the shade all day,thought that might be the case here this week but alas the position of the current hp isnt suiting my location in that regard.

My last ice day 9am -9am was xmas eve 2010, midnight - midnight xmas day 2010. Havent come close since ,the best lowest max ive got since was 1.6c 19th jan 2015.

So the battle between the gfs and ecm continues. Im sure many across net weather will be clued to the 12z runs later today.

certainly no frost here this morning,a balmy 7.7c here atm. Wish i was getting the cold crisp frosty weather up north.

Perfect late autumn weather from midweek. Dry and hopefullly if its a mostly clear hp -bright,chilly by day ,frost at night . My favorite type of Nov weather. Don't mind at all waiting for any real cold and any snow possibilities until next month. The hunt for proper cold and snow sure has started early this yr,I remember a time on net weather that this didn't really start until well into dec.

welcome fergie. The coldest day of the season here so far,in fact the coldest day of the year so far,max temp 3.1c which being a colder max then any day last winter. Gotten a bit foggy in the last while,temp 1.1c.
