  1. Or a winter 81/82 scenero. Where the cold relents around end of Dec but comes back with a vengeance early jan? Even firstly hits around the same time on December, 8th. I know pattern matching rarely works but something that's been at the back of my mind.
  2. What ever happens ( and I'm hopeful things will work out well) - only 3 days into this winter has provided more interesting model watching then the whole of last winter .
  3. This mornings ECM was like that famous scene in Dallas. Woke up to the Cold spell still very much alive. Yesterday evenings ECM must have just been some sort of bad dream lol.
  4. Fantasy Island begins way , way before that! Get the cold weather in first then see where we go from there.
  5. The cold air back in Dec 81 set in around the same time. With all the comparisons to 2010 poor old Dec 81 has been forgotten. First chart Dec 8th 81, second Ecm for the 8th.
  6. A bit off topic but wasn't it the movement of Azores high that kicked off the cold spell mid Dec 09? Usually an enemy for coldies but that was one of the rare occasions it was a friend.
  7. Have had my heating on for only 4 hrs so far this autumn. With more in the way of normal November temperatures taking hold will have to give in and put it on more. Not bad though reaching mid Nov and not having to use it much up to this point.
  8. Normal? You mean as if its a bad thing . Well there hasn't been much normal all yr!
  9. I often think those blocks to the east are more hassle then what they are worth most of the time.
  10. I bet that would annoy the energy companies. They must be pretty peeved with all this mild weather. Not being able to bleed us dry yet.
  11. Got up to 16.8c a short time ago . Yesterday got up to 15.5c. This kind of warmth in November reminds me of Nov 94.
  12. Low last night of 13.9c. Many a summers night that's been cooler.
  13. Apparently Europe has warmed twice as fast over the last 30 yrs compared to the global average. The highest rate of any continent.
  14. I think from about 95 - 2010 cold December's and Xmas periods were more common then say the previous 15 yrs 80- 94 and Certainly compared to nowadays. Its almost like for those 15 yrs we were slowly building up to something big and then Dec 2010 happened. After 2010 the bubble burst and cold December's and Xmas periods have become rare.
  15. My garden needs a mow. I haven't mowed it in weeks. It was a very wet September and October here so i couldn't do it. Ground is completely sodden so will now have to wait till the spring.
  16. Trying to get into the Halloween spirit despite the unseasonal temperatures.
  17. No thanks. That line of thinking didn't work out so well last yr did it? That stretch out to 6 weeks can very quickly become 10 weeks ,12 weeks ,14 weeks etc and before we know winter has come and gone. I like seasonal weather, fed up to the back teeth these last many many months of mostly above average temperatures.
  18. I suppose Jan 82 would be considered a month of 2 halves. First half very cold ,second half much milder in comparison.
  19. The latest gfs run 06z ,says no to any change to seasonal weather when there was tentative signs of hope around mid Nov. Hp over Europe even into the far reaches of the run. Only one run but bloody hell, are seasonal temperatures too much to ask for these days?
  20. Pretty depressing. Love seasonal weather myself Is that hp basically a Bartlett? Or very similar. Only good thing ,good for the heating bills.
  21. If there is a big block in se Europe that could mean possibly a mild winter for the likes of greece. Which should be better for Western Europe for cold as its always a bad sign for us when we see Greece getting plenty of cold.
