  1. GFS shows 91 mph gusts for Fair Isle at 12pm on Friday but the Met Office forecast for Fair Isle gives 68 mph gusts so either one of them is right or wrong.
  2. GFS 06z stays the same for the track of the storm and how strong the winds will be. It reminds me of the 3rd of February 2011 storm it took the exact same path with similar wind speeds.
  3. GFS 12z shows gusts of 100 mph are possible for the far Northern Scottish Isles on Friday morning and early afternoon. Fair Isle is forecast to see 99 mph gusts at 12pm.

From their Twitter account, You can see the data here http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=IUNITEDK257 It's not an official station though by the looks of it so the reading may not be accurate. The closest official stations closest to the airport give gusts of 74 mph. Other non official stations closer to the airport give 50 to 60 mph gusts with Bethesda at 87 mph although its on higher ground and reported that gust at a completely different time of day.
  5. 18z GFS has 86 mph mean wind speed for Fair Isle on Friday. Still changes at this point from the models with not all agreeing yet but the ECM and GFS have been hinting on some stormy weather towards the end of the week. One of GFS 18z Ensembles is showing this.
  6. Gusting just under 40 mph here at the moment expecting it to pick up more later on. ST Kilda reported a 117 mph gust this evening. Other places have reported 60 to 75 mph gusts across Ireland, Scotland and some parts of England and Wales along the West.
  7. 84 mph gust at Belmullet Ireland. Yes its been downgraded a lot over the past few days. GFS was going for gusts of 90 to 100 mph now 60 to 70 mph with exposed locations likely to see over 80 mph.
  8. ST Kilda 98 mph at around 4pm. Gusts elsewhere around the Western Isles are mostly reaching 70mph with South Uist at 76 mph.
  9. Across the Western Isles mainly 60 to 70 mph being recorded with a few stations reporting 72 and 74 mph. ST Kilda reached 92 mph around 3pm.
  10. When I lived in Barra for a while (bottom Western Isles) my Davis anemometer lasted 3 winters which is twice as long as all the other ones I tried before.

  12. Surprised as well. 06z GFS this morning showing gusts over 75 mph for parts of Scotland on Friday. I just checked the Met Office forecast maps and the max gusts are about the same.
  13. Yep looks stormy this weekend for most places. Friday afternoon for Scotland 60 to 70 mph widespread gusts with exposed parts 70 to 80 mph. For Saturday further South this time with gusts of 65 to 75 mph across Scotland, Ireland, Wales and NW parts of England.
  14. Yes its a error looking at the metar data on other sites for that time today they show mean speeds of 10 mph.

  18. Timeline of Sunday using EWN WRFDA 1am to 6am 38 to 46 mph mean wind speeds for the coasts of Ireland, Wales and England. Inland wind speeds for the most exposed parts reach 18 to 30 mph. Gusts around the coasts and exposed parts ranging from 60 to 70 mph. Inland gusts around 35 to 45 mph. 6am to 12pm Inland mean wind speeds range from 28 to 40 mph and for the coasts and exposed parts 45 to 50 mph. Inland gusts of 45 to 65 mph will be widespread across much of Ireland, Wales and England with the coasts and exposed parts likely to see 70 to 75 mph and at this point the West coast of Ireland could see gusts around 80 mph. 12pm to 6pm Inland wind speeds still range from 28 to 40 mph and around 50 mph for exposed locations. Ireland will still see gusts of 50 to 60 mph until 3pm when winds there will start to drop down. As for England and Wales the afternoon will see the highest wind speeds. With gusts ranging from 40 to 55 mph for inland areas and 60 to 70 mph for exposed parts and the coasts. Northern Wales could see gusts of 80 mph around 1pm along with the Northern Eastern English coasts seeing 75 mph around 4pm. 6pm to 11pm The wind quickly drops down during the evening with 40 mph mean speeds still likely for a while in exposed parts. Inland gusts range from 30 to 45 mph with the Eastern coasts still likely to see gusts over 50 mph.
