  1. A nice sunny day here thanks to the high pressure to our West giving us a nice spell of dry weather at the moment.

Yeah it hasn't been good with constant low pressure systems coming off the Atlantic I was out in Barra for most of June and July this year and some days I had to ask myself is it January or July? There doesn't seem to be any sign of it stopping at the moment at least not until mid August. I hope we get a good spell of weather towards the end of summer.

  4. Strong winds with heavy rain across most of the UK right now with top gusts over 60mph being reported in Northern Wales and Southern Ireland.
  5. Still high winds forecast for late Monday afternoon into Monday night. High mean wind speeds for the SW of Scotland around 50mph even in those parts at this time of year that's rare. Gusts of 50 to 60mph will pass over much of the UK as well along with heavy rain in some parts.
  6. 06z GFS this morning has gusts of 70 to 75mph for Northern Scotland on Sunday night into Monday morning.

  8. Capel Curig reported a 97mph gust at 1am now reporting 86mph at 2am.
  9. Yesterday 71mph was reported from Tay bridge as the Met Office issued a wind warning for most of Scotland. Today to Wednesday looks windy for most of the UK with widespread gusts mainly being 40 to 50mph and reaching just over 60mph in some places.
  10. New thread for the Atlantic storms during spring of 2015. There seems to be a chance of one between Friday and Sunday. The 18z GFS shows gusts of just over 60mph for Friday evening, 12z GFS had it further North with gusts reaching 60 to 70mph, Then on Saturday night into Sunday widespread 60 to 70mph gusts across the UK,

  14. Agreed Western Isles over past 2 hours now have been reporting gusts over 80mph some up to 89mph. Even the Isle of Skye is getting winds over 80mph.
  15. Still places in Ireland and Northern England reporting 40 to 55mph gusts. Most of Scotland is seeing gusts of 60 to 70mph and the Western Isles still reporting gusts between 70 to 90mph. Over the next 3 hours the very worst of the winds will take place there so we might see higher.
  16. Some really strong wind speeds in the Western Isles at the moment 90mph reported from the Barra Airport. Elsehwhere has reported gusts just under 80mph. South Uist is currently reporting a mean speed of 62mph.
  17. Strong winds across Ireland are still being reported some places up to 71mph. Parts of Wales and Northern England have picked up in wind speeds with 50 to 60mph gusts. The South West of Scotland right now is taking a real battering the Isle of Barra airport recorded a 90mph gust and South Uist weather station stands at 77mph.
  18. Gusts of 50 to 70mph have been reported across Ireland and Scotland so far. Over the next few hours its going to get worse for the NW of Scotland especially.

  20. Winds are starting to pick up now gusts between 50 to 60mph mainly being reported across Ireland and Scotland with 68mph being the highest so far. Monday 3pm mean wind speeds of around 50 to 60mph to the SW of Scotland, Gusts ranging from 70 to 85mph in the SW of Scotland, Monday 7pm Across Western Scotland mean speeds are around 50 to 60mph, Widespread gusts of 50 to 60mph across Northern Ireland and Northern England while most of Scotland see's 60 to 70mph gusts and the Western Isles 80 to 90mph, Monday 10pm The strong winds start moving North now and still staying the same mean speeds of 50 to 60mph, Gusts of 60 to 70mph are still widespread across Scotland with 80 to 90mph over the North,
  21. This storm is looking really nasty now there's a good chance over 90mph could happen. Mean speeds still around 60mph for Western and Northern Scotland. Gusts mainly between 70 to 80mph with a chance of 90mph or more at times. The Met Office weather map shows mainly 60 to 70mph for the SW of Scotland with over 80mph for the South of the Western Isles, And the same range of wind speeds for the North West of Scotland,
  22. The Met Office have just updated the yellow warning and now are saying wind gusts could reach up to 80mph. Chief Forecaster's assessment. The 06z GFS is showing widespread mean wind speeds of 60mph and slightly more in some places. Gusts over 80mph
  23. Tonight's just your ordinary windy night in some parts of the country with Loch Glascarnoch in Northern Scotland recording a gust of 77mph at 7pm. Makes you wonder what Monday will bring.
  24. Looking at the other 12z runs there still is some uncertainty. The ECM and JMA are similar to the GFS but slightly more North West but mostly agree on the same speed of the wind. Some other models point to it being not as strong and shows that it could still downgrade. The Met Office forecast maps are still going for gusts around 60 to 70mph.
  25. Slight upgrade on the 12z GFS run. Mean speeds for the bottom half of the Western Isles 60 to 72mph and mean speeds of 50 to 60mph for Northern Scotland, Gusts of 80mph and even just over 90mph,
