Running the Radar sequence for the last couple of hours, there looks to be a convergence zone where ppn is moving in from the East and West at the same time. Zone runs from North Notts, through South Yorkshire, up towards Leeds and Harrogate. @Kasim Awan I’d be interested in your technical view on this and longevity.

Still moderate small flakes in Barnsley and still accumulating. Looking good for a few more hours. Have seen numerous reports on local Facebook groups regarding roads all over Barnsley completely impassable, with cars and vans abandoned, several jack-knifed HGVs and loads of accidents. My daughter, a primary school teacher, had to walk home from the school she works at as she is the main road from school is also impassable. She has also had to walk some kids home as parents can’t get to the school! The irony is her partner has Land Rover Defender, which will literally go through anything, but it’s currently in Bradford at the main dealer for servicing and some other work! ?

Just back from my 2nd trip out this morning, taking shopping to father in law. We’ve got about 4-6cm in Barnsley and it’s still coming down steadily. Main roads are a real mess, with most cars and vans getting stuck on any slight incline. 2nd picture below is of the main A635 heading out of Barnsley. Daughter is a primary school teacher and stuck in school until all parents gave collected kids. @Craigers What is Ardsley hill like, as she is at Oakhill Primary and has to get home to Darfield.

Currently out, wife needing to shop for her 92 year old dad, so gives me opportunity to give the XC60 All Wheel Drive a test! It doesn’t get that very often! Main roads out of Barnsley now white over and traffic is slow. Will be interesting getting back into our street and drive given it’s block paved and slippy at the best of times!

Icon still going for snow into North Eastern parts of Yorkshire from around midnight and reaching South Yorkshire/North Derbyshire for around 8-9am. It continues to show a couple of of hours of moderate snow followed by 8-10 hours of light snow before it leaves our region. As others have said, elevation is likely to be key but if Icon is correct everyone could see some snow falling even if not settling.

I know that area pretty well, but never been there. We stay in Hutton Le Hole every February (although had to cancel for this year), and always stop off at Rievaulx Abbey on our way, so Newgate must only be a couple of miles further on the Stokesley Road from the Rievaulx Bank turning. Is it open access to the site, and good for walking? Thinking it might be worth a visit, even without the snow!
