  1. Fizzling out here now, although still coming down very light. Ended up with 10cm, which far exceeded my expectations! Saturday looking more like a front edge snow then rain event.
  2. I’m liking the look of that! 6 days away, so caution needed but outlook positive if this is to be believed!
  3. Radar really pepping up now in the North of the region, around Boroughbridge/Bedale. Hopefully this becomes more extensive.
  4. Running the Radar sequence for the last couple of hours, there looks to be a convergence zone where ppn is moving in from the East and West at the same time. Zone runs from North Notts, through South Yorkshire, up towards Leeds and Harrogate. @Kasim Awan I’d be interested in your technical view on this and longevity.
  5. Still moderate small flakes in Barnsley and still accumulating. Looking good for a few more hours. Have seen numerous reports on local Facebook groups regarding roads all over Barnsley completely impassable, with cars and vans abandoned, several jack-knifed HGVs and loads of accidents. My daughter, a primary school teacher, had to walk home from the school she works at as she is the main road from school is also impassable. She has also had to walk some kids home as parents can’t get to the school! The irony is her partner has Land Rover Defender, which will literally go through anything, but it’s currently in Bradford at the main dealer for servicing and some other work! ?
  6. A bit lighter here now, but still reasonably moderate small flakes. From Radar looks like the heavier ppn has moved further South. Measured depth twice, once before 12.00 (6cm) and then again just after 2pm (9cm), which I’d consider a decent return since 7am this morning at 100m asl.
  7. Just noticed that on the Radar. Green area is expanding very slightly and showing increased intensity.
  8. Just back from my 2nd trip out this morning, taking shopping to father in law. We’ve got about 4-6cm in Barnsley and it’s still coming down steadily. Main roads are a real mess, with most cars and vans getting stuck on any slight incline. 2nd picture below is of the main A635 heading out of Barnsley. Daughter is a primary school teacher and stuck in school until all parents gave collected kids. @Craigers What is Ardsley hill like, as she is at Oakhill Primary and has to get home to Darfield.
  9. Yep, you are right. It’s pretty good in snowy conditions! A couple of winters ago we went to Rievaulx Abbey in snow and it got us up the 1 in 4 Rievaulx Bank in 4 inch of snow! Brilliant!
  10. Currently out, wife needing to shop for her 92 year old dad, so gives me opportunity to give the XC60 All Wheel Drive a test! It doesn’t get that very often! Main roads out of Barnsley now white over and traffic is slow. Will be interesting getting back into our street and drive given it’s block paved and slippy at the best of times!
  11. Snow in Barnsley at 100m asl. Cars and grass whiteover and slush starting to build on drives and roads. Radar looking excellent for next couple of hours. Heaviest heading my way right now!
  12. Anything much down in Hutton? Was supposed to be there 1st week Feb (now cancelled), as we have for the last 14 years, and have regularly seen some snow in the village and over Blakey but not quite that much!
  13. Icon still going for snow into North Eastern parts of Yorkshire from around midnight and reaching South Yorkshire/North Derbyshire for around 8-9am. It continues to show a couple of of hours of moderate snow followed by 8-10 hours of light snow before it leaves our region. As others have said, elevation is likely to be key but if Icon is correct everyone could see some snow falling even if not settling.
  14. @summer blizzard What is the approx timescale for this? Heavy rain in Barnsley currently and Radar showing heavier still to come. If we are still under heavy ppn when the colder air moves in then some areas have a chance of getting a decent covering.
  15. GFS // also going for same distribution of snow as Icon on Thursday, albeit about 8-10 hours later. Main GFS Op run still not interested in snow for same time period.
  16. 6z run from Icon a big improvement for snow for us for Thursday, with it giving about 8 hours of snow! Was previously showing the ppn moving through as all rain.
  17. Arpege about the only model currently showing snow for a wide area of our region on Thursday, but it’s been fairly consistent with this. Other models seem to limit snow to highest ground to the East only. It will be interesting to see what Harmonie and NMM show when it comes into their range.
  18. Saw that earlier and made me wonder where this is coming from... In the text it states min temp of -5c, yet the app symbols and temp show rain and 7c for my location! ??
  19. I know that area pretty well, but never been there. We stay in Hutton Le Hole every February (although had to cancel for this year), and always stop off at Rievaulx Abbey on our way, so Newgate must only be a couple of miles further on the Stokesley Road from the Rievaulx Bank turning. Is it open access to the site, and good for walking? Thinking it might be worth a visit, even without the snow!
