  1. @Tinker Bell Apps won’t show accurately the snow shower potential, in fact they rarely accurately predict anything! For next week, I would say keep viewing the models looking for the strong Easterly feed and then come late Saturday and Sunday onwards I think it’s going to be down Radar watching for all of us. If the current synoptics maintain then snow showers will be wide spread and should impact all areas including down to sea level, but impact day to day is likely to vary depending on whether we get an ESE, straight E, ENE or NE feed.
  2. That’s looking promising. Hopefully we get a few troughs in the flow or a few streamers setup!
  3. GFSP cooking up plenty of snow from the East for Sunday. GFS almost gets there but a few hours later.
  4. Another decent covering in Barnsley, maybe 2-3 inches. Turning sleety now though, so warm up on the way for the next couple of days. Looking forward to the weekend and onwards (assuming all models except GFS are correct!)
  5. A sample of other snow depth charts for noon Tuesday. Arpege has more snow further south and similar to Euro4, and also greater depth. Others have less snow and are further north.
  6. Lots of water to pass under the bridge so many chances for upgrades/downgrades, and snow charts shouldn’t be taken at face value. However, if you view on Meteociel light snow starts in Yorkshire late Friday, through Saturday, gets much heavier on Sunday and Monday before getting lighter and dying out on Tuesday. At this range all JFF!
  7. Yep, your elevation and being that bit further North you stand a good chance of getting a proper event!
  8. Yep, I agree. South Yorkshire should do ok but the nervy bit is that we seem to be right on the boundary. I think elevation will help, but anyone is the far South of the region and at lower elevation might only see a short duration of snow before it turns to sleet and rain. Further North and greater elevation it will probably be all snow until the 2nd band of ppn comes through later in the day and that will bring the less cold air in for everyone in England.
  9. To be believed or not!?!? A few minutes ago it was showing 5 hours of heavy snow! And just resfreshed again, and back to snow! Just goes to show that these automated forecasts are a complete and utter waste of time!
  10. 6z ICON, Arome, NMM, Arpege still looking good from early hours of tomorrow morning. I’ve told the wife it’s going to snow, so now she is rushing out to do her weekly supermarket shopping today instead of tomorrow morning, so I’m dead if it doesn’t snow now. Oh, and I’ve also told her it’s going to be very cold with Easterly winds from next weekend, so if it goes txxxs up now blame me!
  11. Tuesday still looking good for about 6-7 hours of snow according to NMM, Harmonie, Arome, Arpege, ICON and ECM. GFS and GFSP still less keen on snow for South Yorkshire, although they do give more snow for the North of of our region And just to add, according to the MAD thread, the Easterley is still on, although depending on who you believe it could be starting either Friday or Sunday or Monday!
  12. I don’t mind Paul, as he does like snow. Donkeys years ago the kids bought me a book he wrote about severe winter weather with the late great Ian McCaskill!
  13. If it is, he’ll be telling us we are in mild south westerlies and summer is about to start True what you say about the Beeb though! This winter every time I’ve caught a forecast they seem to have been about 12 hours behind the latest models. Given the speed of change, that has been useless!
  14. NMM gives about 7 hours of fairly heavy snow across the region. Given this is a highly rated short range hi-res model, that is a promising outlook
  15. Arpege, Arome and Harmonie all give snow for Tuesday, albeit slightly different timings and duration. GFS and GFSP still less keen on quite so much snow.
  16. The Easterly isn’t due to kick in until next weekend. We’ve got a slightly less cold couple of days following the snow Tuesday then It could start getting interesting Saturday/Sunday.
  17. 50+cm of snow all the way from the Peak District all the up to the top of the Northern Pennines! Love it!
  18. That is quite a change! It’s not just the position of the low but also the intensity which changes the progress West to East of the associated front. Then as a consequence the transition from snow to rain is much slower.
