  1. No lightning left as expected but looks like us here in the far south are going to get a right soaking shortly! A lot of heavy rain embedded thus far. Chance of something thundery here tomorrow maybe.
  2. GORGEOUS Day here in Falmouth and spent the day in the stunning Helford Passage. Amazing place and looks more like the south of France. Hot in the sun. Now there is no thunder left tonight but it looks like were going to get a big soaking here soon! Thundery showers possible here tomorrow too.
  3. Blitzortung shows the sferics nicely curving round the Kent coastline. LOL.
  4. Indeed, Thursday looks pretty decent again especially for Central and some Northern parts. However maybe the name of your town may be working against you...
  5. Not surprised there wasnt many storms today. Was concerned as soon as I saw the messy satellite images around lunchtime which I alluded to earlier. But a few have managed something which is good.
  6. Not surprised there wasnt many storms today. Was concerned for you guys as soon as I saw the messy satellite images around lunchtime.
  7. Absolutely and the same goes for those getting hooked on Met Office symbols because they show a thunder shower at said location at 17:00 hrs. In these set ups everyone should know its pretty much just a guess!
  8. Hoping a few cells off the coast of Cornwall turn thundery but looks unlikely. Quite a lot of messy cloud it seems for many today so certainly no storms on the extent of yesterday imo.
  9. I would say with a fair bit of messy cloud across the country that thunderstorms will be fairly limited today, certainly not on the scale of yesterday imo. Saying that the Pembrokeshire storm is currently very active so still some good energy in the atmosphere if it can be utilised.
  10. Storm just leaving NW France heading this way but weakening. Would be nice to see a storm but the chances were always low here.
  11. Not bad to have almost 80f by 19th May! Very decent Spring this year imo.
  12. Erm the storms are very close to you actually. This isnt a over reaction toys out of the pram because it hasnt reached you (yet probably!) is it? - Patience!
  13. Very active afternoon. It does seem to me over the last couple I years we have been slowly grabbing back a few of those big storm days of the 90s. Let's hope.Hope that storm at the very NW tip of France comes here too. Even at a distance we may get a nice lightning show over the sea.
  14. Just east of Dolgellau has been pounded now by very intense rain for the last hour looking at the radar. Must be some flash flooding.
  15. Wow wales is up there with the best storms in Europe right now! Very rapid development! A few cells exploding into life down here too though no sferics.
  16. Overall a really good day again here. Stunning morning then some hazy cloud mid afternoon but actually turned fairly sunny again till about 6pm. Not as warm as recently but still warm really. Shame the spell is at an end here. A thunderstorm or two would really be the icing on the cake but fairly low chances down here I think. Heres hoping this trough this week buggars off soon enough.
  17. True, the Midlands looks like a good spot though NMM do seem to think some precipitation my develop in France and possible move in our direction. Fingers crossed!
  18. Wonder if we may see some thunderstorms imported from France this week here in Falmouth on a SEly wind. Had an intense thunderstorm early last June like this I think.
  19. Stunning day again but as knocker said a little high cloud, mostly to our North so probably more prevalent over Camborne than further south here.
  20. Yes some tractors have been round the fields from the view of our house yesterday and today here in Falmouth.
  21. WOW what an amazing day again. Even warmer it seemed to me today. A good 20 or 21c in Falmouth im sure.
  22. Sorry to post again but was having another think and came up with this.... The NAO has been done against precipitation before at my uni (though not with river discharges) but how about a study using a couple of rivers in a region, one large and one small and study their correlations/responses to a few teleconnections available here: http://www.cpc.ncep....teleintro.shtml Could maybe look at ENSO, the East Atlantic Index and maybe a Eurasian one? Then I could compare to see if a particular type of river is more responsive and which teleconnection is the better tool? I would still perhaps use ENSO but by looking at a couple of other teleconnections I could reduce its emphasis and reduce potential concerns of lack of correlation compared to when the whole study was focused around it. But ENSO could still be emphasised because of its predictability months ahead and thus as a potential indicator of higher discharges and potential flood risk?
