  1. Thanks for this, I take it the biggest interest here is the link with SSW's. Is there any available data on SSW frequency/intensity etc?
  2. Hi all, with my latest idea about ENSO, some of the literature seems rather confusing, perhaps making this interesting to study. From what ive read, El Nino seems to bring wetter conditions across Europe especially in the south and drier across scandinavia and the North of the UK whilst La Nina is somewhat opposite. I just want to keep this in the UK now for access of data purposes. Was getting very complex doing it on a wider scale. My lecturer was telling me that whatever correlation I found, I need to be able to suggest causes. Now, changes in atmospheric pressure are what shift rainfall patterns thus I was told I should probably test the correlation between ENSO and atmospheric pressure too. Do you think its best to measure that in the UK too or use pressure data from Iceland or the Aleutian Islands area as they are areas of semi permanent low pressure. Any thoughts on this and if anyone could point me to a link with past sea level pressure data especially for Iceland, The Aleutian Islands area etc that would be great. I should note for simplification purposes, for now at least, I think I am just going to be focussing on precipitation/pressure and ignoring the rivers component for now at least.
  3. Another day of wall to wall sunshine here and warm. Slightly more noticeable breeze today but still light. 18c.Could get very close to 20c here tomorrow (Saturday). Wall to wall sun again!!!
  4. It's just beautiful to go to bed and know you'll wake up to sunshine here as convective clouds are not often an issue in these set ups down here on the coast. Glorious. Same pride tomorrow too. 17c
  5. Wall to wall sunshine all day here and 19c. Felt very warm in that strong sun. Amazing day.
  6. Yep already 16c here in Falmouth and 16c at nearby Culdrose. Going to be a stunner today.
  7. Wall to wall sunshine here once again. Another very warm day with UV of 6. Best it's not far off 7 here either. Amazing conditions and off towards Helston and the Lizard today.
  8. OUTSTANDING day here. Wall to wall sunshine all day and 18c. Warmer than expected. Could even be nearly 20c here by Saturday. Wall to wall sunshine for the next few days too.
  9. So far and regrettably not much support for Piers so far!
  10. True indeed. Can I claim the best views though of the rugged Cornish coastline than some fields which albeit are nice but certainly are better than the concrete jungle that is Birmingham.
  11. Glorious evening here in Falmouth. Stunning short term forecast with wall to wall sunshine pretty much over the next few days and 15-19c. Should get some of the best sunshine amounts down here. UV Index of 6 too. End of exams for me too today so off the Porthleven/The Lizard on Thursday too for a coastal walk. Should be great.
  12. I really disagree about last year. July was fantastic all round. The end was more unsettled but still warm and thundery. August although not as good still wasnt bad. A hell of a lot better than most summers.
  13. Indeed great the rest of this week till Sunday but then it just looks disgusting with everyone but the UK enjoying early summer. Typical. Hope to god it doesnt get stuck there but does look like its in no hurry to move.
  14. Yes some shocking charts of everyone enjoying the warmth but the UK (and maybe Calais! ) Just not fair. Hopefully the opposite will become true.
  15. Nice GFS 12z but Im amazed how quickly the high breaks down over Europe. Plausible but seems very quick.
  16. Its great that I am now in the same region whether I am in Falmouth or at home in the Midlands. Cheers to the South West portion of the country.
  17. Grotty day here in Falmouth. Drizzly and misty. How anyone can like this is beyond me. Hope the charts for next week stay as they are. Could be beautiful Wednesday onwards. Shame it's still a while away!
  18. 3am is pretty late these days when it's getting light again by 5-6am now!
  19. Here in South West Cornwall, on a clear night, the last bit of light doesnt leave till 10pm here now!!! Obviously its fairly dark by 9.30 though. Loving it.
  20. 99% of the time always the issue whilst just over the water in France they are enjoying it all!
  21. Pretty cloudy and bland set up in the summer but each to their own I guess.
  22. Can I just check that If I were to correlate between the ENSO index (which has positive and negative values, thus an interval variable?) and precipitation (ratio variable) or river discharge that I would use Pearsons correlation to help this?
  23. Our area and the south coast is really copping the heaviest of the rain today. Shame there is no thundery element.
  24. Good grief some ugly charts for next week. Hope it doesnt become entrenched. Very reminiscent of Summer 2012 where it was pretty much just the UK stuck under lows whilst everywhere else in Europe enjoyed great sunny and warm conditions. Suppose its best to have it now. Cant see why coldies would enjoy it personally unless cloud, rain and 8-12c floats your boat...
  25. Far too much cloud for anything thundery IMO as I alluded to last night. Still some time yet but the continent is having far more entertainment. Almost every European country seems to be under sunshine and showers today though!!!
