Oh to have been in Falmouth! There was thunder and lightning at midnight! What grand timing!!!
-
A low risk that Nature could provide the fireworks tonight! Some ML Cape will spread across the region with the showers.

Ian Brown is the most realistic poster on this forum, no disrespect of course to anyone else, but Ian says zonal for nov to late Jan, thats nearly always right, then tends to forecast less zonal Feb to Apr, nearly always right, and of course Ian is a knowledgeable scientific poster
anyone know where Ian is? he is using the 'like' button but not posting, hoping he isn't banned, the most realistic poster for god's sake!
Oh dear.
Thats like saying its usually Spring from March to June, Summer from June to September....
You get the rest....

Snow shower on the 24th here and a few flakes at the end of the 25th here have rescued this month. The 24th was lucky because we went through some very intense precipitation, dragging the cold air down to the surface enabling precipitation to fall as snow. Would have been rain otherwise!
-
Yep, looks like the risk of cold continues to be out in the distance but the risk of storms is increasing again. Tonight will ve very windy with Gales for a time. Some very tight isobars.
Today so far is beautiful with lots of sun. Hard frost last night leaving the ground very white like we had a dusting of snow! Icy patches still around in the shade now too.

Calmed down a fair bit since the squall passed. Was quite a few bursts of intense rain there. Radar shows this. Wind was really going for it for a time!
-
Windier than Monday here too!
-
A few very strong gusts here. Amongst the strongest winds Ive seen in a time here.
-
Seems a little winder than I was expecting for now.
-
Yep suddenly got quite gusty here. Seems a little windier than what I expected for now too especially considering Im well Inland. Is it deeper than forecast?
-
Yep, the problem is really bad now. Not what is needed when a storm is on its way.
-
Looks pretty nasty for North Wales and the north Midlands too.Yes Manchester northwards in the firing line it would seem.

Ahh don't worry it's just rain here now too. Certainly caught a few flakes in the wind when the dp was below 0c.
-
And its an official white Christmas here!!! A few flakes of snow drifting down currently. DP -0.5c.

Very true. Certainly the UKMO and ECM provide a more interesting option for here. I still feel GFS will be closer to the mark given the trend to correct northwards.Remember the ensembles are lower resolution, at this stage the best models to follow are the likes of the high resolution NAE, NMM etc..
-
The GFS op consistently is the weakest option for Friday here. The control and most ensembles are some 6-10mb deeper!
-
Merry Christmas my fellow Midlanders!

Morning, a little frost overnight here so a little 'white' this morning.

EURO4 suggests an outside chance of something making its way inland tomorrow. Most models, however, confine convective activity to near coasts given close proximity to moisture source where instability will be greatest. Though the reality often isn't so clear-cut. If showers do find their way here though, they'll more than likely be of the sort today given the cold air aloft.
Didnt you say earlier in the convective section that the environment atm promotes showers making their way inland. They did well today and quite well into this evening actually.
Wind direction looks very similar tomorrow, again via Swansea and the Brecon Beacons on towards here for example.
-
Shame the 18z NMM probably wont be right as it would be quite a wintry day for us in the West Mids, Herefordshire and Worcestershire tomorrow with a stream of showers!

-
Nice little wintry shower streamer going on atm from Swansea through Crickhowell, Hereford, Bewdley to Stourbridge.
-
Merry Christmas Everyone! Have a fantastic day and rest of this festive break. Its only just beginning.
-
Looking at the radar we took the full brunt of that shower going through the core so it readily allowed any early rain to turn to hail then snow. Very very slight slushy deposit in the gutters and grass.
