more than a few showers, wettest day of the autumn season I would say today, not rain all day mind you, still been lucky really though overall
Its NOT AUTUMN!!! This is actually typical Winter fayre, its just most have become obscured of what winter is going by the last few years.
I do find your posts confusing sometimes! Autumn ended six weeks ago
With the honorable exception of the Derbyshire crew, it says something about this winter so far that one of our regular posters - Blizzy - has seen more snow down in Cornwall than we have here!
Bish
I should add im still in Stourbridge and the snow was seen here on the 24th. It was because we came under a very intense shower which dragged the cold air down enough to see snow. Saying that, west Cornwall saw snow just last Saturday!

At least I can go back to Cornwall on Friday knowing I have seen some snow this Winter - Christmas Eve in that 15 minute heavy snow shower we had. But thats it. For west Cornwall we need a dam good northerly.

Not that many have had thunderstorms conor, mainly just the SW and SW wales.
However I thought I did hear a rumble or two here during the downpour but it could have been the gusty wind.
-
Heavy rain here now. Thunderstorms connected with this line towards the Brecons.
-
Ahh yet another thunderstorm in W Cornwall this morning! Will be all quiet when im back there on Friday!
-
Wow, rather like a tsunami but smaller scale.

Im off back to Falmouth this Friday, just in time for the weather to calm down a bit. They have had absolutely everything this week from thunderstorms to snow!

Ahh how typical I get back to cornwall next week when things look like becoming quiet. Thunder, lightning, downpours, hail, flooding, storm surge and now snow!

Just a band of showers/rain associated with this trough:
Ahh fair enough. Seriously organised stuff though and looks very intense for January.
-
Is that an MCS over Belgium and Netherlands right now... in January!
What astonishing factors must be in play today!
-
Last shower here looked a little icy/sleety in the heavier core.
-
Amazing persistence of that storm in mid January! Been the most thundery wintry months for many years surely?
-
Ahh very jealous on missing more thunderstorms today. Typically
My return to Falmouth late next week looks to be just as things quiet down.

A couple of models giving a wintry threat on Saturday but seems 90% likely only rain can be expected im afraid.

V latest UKMO assessment for 10-15d period notes "some signal for increased perturbations in upper pattern..." but generally maintaining the mobile theme. So, in keeping with EC32 alongside other products.
Hi Ian, apologies if this has already been mentioned, but is there still a risk of some wintriness on Saturday? A few other models such as the NASA GEOS5 for example seems to suggest something.

Cornwall really looks like taking a battering. I know parts around Commercial Road in Penryn and possibly areas around the Princes of Wales Pier in Falmouth may particular see flooding issues.

If you live on the west coast get down to the beach at high tide because you'll likely not see it as high for a long time, it will probably be over the small Whitehaven pier something I've never witnessed and there'll be probably some more structural damage and the town centre might even flood.
That goes against all the important safety advice. Too many lives have been lost this way recently.

Hopefully if this mild weather continues, late February might bring out the shorts again in Cornwall. Was warm enough on a day or two last year! Looking forward to those first warm days of Spring now. Will feel amazing!

I must say the thought of snow doesnt interest me as much it has in previous years despite my username lol. Ill look forward to it if it comes but its still some way away and a lot of folks are getting way ahead of themselves imo. This is an easterly we are talking about and could quite easily fail. Hate to put the jeepers on it but we have been here before.
Id much rather think about those early warm sunny days on the cornish coast.
