  1. Went up to the Kirkstone Pass today (1500 asl) - left it a bit late for a sledging session - about 3:30 got to the summit in about 6" of slush large drifts to the road edges - cars were turning round with medium snow falling - the Struggle was totally blocked - first time I have seen this in ages.... not much melt up here - plenty of lying snow - the road to Keswick was "interesting" last week over Dunmail Raise at -6
  2. Graupel falling in Samlesbury - relatively snow free (from the skies that is !) since this morning.
  3. I know its a bit on the chilly side up over the tops - but no need to warm yourselves up by doing this.....
  4. Never mind Bud - glad you see it in the right fashion - I had 9" in Borrowdale once
  5. Went up to Ambleside and Grasmere on an easy family walk Deerbolts - Under Loughrigg.Fine snow covering sticking to roads and paths - Had a brew in Grasmere at approx 4pm - pelted down with decent flakes - drove back down the M6 to watch it gradually metamorphasise to sleet then horizontal rain - well dissed off - that could have been well good blizzard conditions for the Snowless county of England - Warm sector well and truly wiped out all expectations - should have stayed in Grasmere - very festive AND quiet - no sign of any Japanese tourists at all...
  6. Don't tell 'em - I did - It didn't happen - they dont forget Dad with egg on face. Got my own back on Side Pike in Langdale in a mini-blizzard last year - scarred them for life....
  7. Ha Ha! Good un! - over Cofa then the usual to Fairfield and down Grizedale was it? Mmm whiteouts dont you just love em?
  8. No chance! Not even on Jeffrey Hill Get up to the Kirkstone - Dont forget you sledge....
  9. Not expecting anything yet again from this....too sheltered from the Pennines...too near the Sea blah blah blah Maybe another drive to the Kirkstone at 1500ASL is on the cards.
  10. Remember being out in this 20yrs ago this week (Blencathra - Nr Keswick) Sorry for being "Retro - Archive" thought it might provoke interest.
  11. Latest from the BBC weather chaps..... Monday 21 December 2009 to Sunday 3 January 2010 This bit covers Christmas Day! And as usual there is no strong probability of either wet or white! Indications are for below average temperatures, but for most at least an average amount of rain. So more often than not we will have high pressure giving us frost and sunshine, but with one or two incursions of frontal rain. If a cold southeasterly wind met Atlantic rain over us then you have the pretty white scenario. Sadly, there is no reason to forecast this at the moment.
  12. .... Another classic reply - why then do we have to suffer Winter forecast predictions in October?
  13. .......Your having me on pal....! Wheres yer legs? - you not even gone sledging at the Kirkstone (less than 5 miles away from you) - look up to the fells.... .....2mm Max so far in Preston - laughable
  14. .....I obviously am not aware of your physical attributes but if you are able to go to say - Ambleside and pop some boots on you have all the snow you can wish for at the moment - I dont know if you can drive but if you make the effort go to the Kirkstone Pass (one of the easiest passes even in winter) park up at the Kirkstone Inn get the sledge out and enjoy the white stuff - done it dozens of times - we have the Pennines against us from easterlies and coastal location which is too much of a disadvantage - decent snow in Lancs is like rocking horse s* i t - you have to travel and make an effort
  15. ...... I thought Venus was brighter than Jupiter which is nearer the horizon? .....Brilliant photos - I missed this due to overcast skies (NW England) fantastic shots nearly as good as "Celestial Skies" - Oh well only 40 more years to wait I was viewing Jupiter and Venus on the 5th of December when the ISS passed over....!!! quite eerie - took me a while to gather what it was....
  16. TOP CONDITIONS! Time to get up there - Peace and quiet no b*gger else will be out thats for sure......
  17. Couldnt have put it better myself - well said - might as well just look out of the window.
  18. Stranded on top of Loft Crag in the Langdale Valley in a total whiteout blizzard....all alone..... (brilliant) Ok not on an Alpine scale but it was a loooonnnggg 25-30 mins...! Got a decent "buzz" to say the least...
