  1. After this time in 2010 (and 2009 for early snow) events - I think we have been spoilt as well by last weeks output whipping everyone into a froth - yes astonishing charts which will be hard to beat - but it is feeling well chilly now with the Northerly wind direction as the missus has turned up the CH by a notch - who needs a weather station? .Still interesting at T+216 for the 6th Dec snowrisk. Off to Grizedale this Saturday - hopefully see some tops crowned again. Keep the faith people! Ian - IAC
  2. MET forecast Cumbria for 1-12-12 Saturday Cloudy conditions on Saturday with low temperatures and snow falling mostly in the eastern fells at first, becoming more widespread and heavier later. Winds will be fairly light. Freezing level around 300 metres. Ian
  3. FAX for Friday.... http://www.netweathe...;type=fax;sess= I see the 528 DAM line is skirting East Anglia - any expert opinion on this chart as I am only a simple mountaineer edit: - apologies - click on +120hrs Ian
  4. Rollercoaster................. is the Preston snow shield up and running? - got to love those Pennines and the coast haven't you?
  5. Last closed thread - some reliable names on here had the 30th pretty much nailed on looking at last weeks charts and getting worked up into a froth..... Meto 5 dayer for Cumbria freezing level dropping to 300m sleet this am and heavy snow on the tops with a nice windchill. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/loutdoor/mountainsafety/lakedistrict/lakedistrict_latest_weather.html
  6. Yes - a truly disappointing and confusing 06Z on this damned rollercoaster - the cold plunge has gone further east- time for the GFS to make it's mind up as the 30th that even seasoned members were forecasting snowmaggedon is nearing reliability - here's hoping for an upgrade. Ian
  7. Thanks for increasing the frenzy another notch.............
  8. Bonkers 06Z....... The 30th is back on again - that's just five days off people - GFS looking at an 11 day blast at least...... Ian
  9. Yes - tasty charts are up to the 8th of December - it was the 30th of Nov then the 2nd Dec how far will reality be? - seem to be chasing "zero hour" further and further on each run. Ian
  10. Yes - a better 12Z plenty of cold is in place - just that the real fun was due to begin on the 30th and now it's the 2nd how further will it be pushed into December? - obviously the later the better. Ian
  11. Adding to the confusion even more bringing Warsaw and Berlin into the equation! - let alone a possible easterly in 2 weeks time - I am more concerned about what will or won't happen in Cumbria on Thursday Ian
  12. Apologies - meant the 00Z and 06Z runs are both trending a similar downgrade. Members on here yesterday were betting their mortgages of armageddon on the 30th - I hope you are right. Cumbrian GEFS mean ensembles are nice and flat - yes there is cold but we were all spoilt by last weeks runs - here's hoping. Ian
  13. Well well - its all going **** up - that's the 12Z and the 06Z GFS runs both in agreement of sorts. I have serious money on this cold spell with the missus and my lad has just waxed his sledge. Best day for ppn for Cumbria is now the 2nd December
  14. 12Z coming out - latest for the 30th at +171 528 Thickness misses the UK completely compared to the 06Z - a stinker? or just another twist? - obviously not in the reliable but some members say the 30th is pretty much nailed on for the start of the real NE cold. Ian
  15. Bit Off T - apologies - How accurate and I doubt it - but don't you just love the Pennine snowshadow for any ppn from the E - NE
  16. Oh Fantasy........ Arctic pipeline opens up. Enough to keep you lot darn sarf happy and from a Northerly - who says we're selfish? IAC
  17. Yes seem to recall '92 but remember being "in it" in November not October - nothing in condition (gullies) obviously but a good early trudge nevertheless. These synoptics as Steve mentions are extremes to say the least. Ian
  18. Big words Steve and courage for sticking the neck out even at minus 10 days off. Looks like an early dusting for the tops of the NW fells - earliest I can recall. All looks shortlived as the HP pushes in all too easy but hopefully a start of winter to remember. Ian
  19. The "cooldown" starts - more cherry picking but - hey! - its a model discussion whether or not they are proved to be correct - maybe FI charts should be exempt but where is the fun value in that? IAC
  20. Cumbria is a very nice county indeed......... Should be interesting down at Rib.......
  21. Yes - a glorious day - you are very lucky Damian - soon be through Deerbolts Wood with the family always a highlight of the autumn. Off to Staveley to view a property late next week - heres hoping...... Keep off the tops though......... Ian
  22. A lovely choice indeed. Tell him/her to take a kite......
  23. Lovely - bring it on... Always good in the Lakes pal...... (Even better at 3000+ft and minus 10 chill)
