  1. ......if your VERY careful - Kirkstone at 1500 asl bob on for sledging - even has a pub - drive with care though. Ian
  2. Yes - Parlick and Fairsnape a nice covering - absolute biblical downpour of a wintry mix about 2am - thought Bowland would be getting a dusting - Lakes look inviting - clear as a bell with the sun reflection off the snow. Ian
  3. 06Z Cumbria mean ensembles climbing but still subzero throughout to Christmas Eve. Snow prospect for Wales and the Midlands less than a week away and pushing from the SW...! surely this is due to the cold airmass it meets. Let battle commence - (FI +384) Ian
  4. Ambleside 12:10PM Ambleside 12PM http://www.lakelandcam.co.uk/
  5. Blackburn - Cold Light Dreary Rain......
  6. Forum members could do to post locations. I am in Mellor today. Dry ppn incoming but temp rising.
  7. Agreed and it's good to witness - but a better forecast is when the missus has the CH Therm turned up to 25C... Ian
  8. Ooops - apologies - ahead of myself Specsavers and all that..... Ian
  9. Yes - a poor 06Z in the long term - short term looking promising for the band of ppn heading South snow down to low levels away from coasts. Thought it was quiet and you know it's bad output as the Output Discussion is not at the top of the leaderboard.... Everyone on here? http://forum.netweat...moaning-thread/ Cumbria ensembles GEFS mean still holding steady for cold through to the 19th well chilly on the 6th. Ignore the later control run hopefully. 06Z FI for the bin? Ian
  10. Altitude.....! - it helps Last year we had a nailed on snow event only for ppn to drop through a "warm sector" - not that I am that technicallly inclined - we got freezing rain - nasty stuff. Ian
  11. ....glad you do - no bias from me at all either...! - I am lucky enough personally to have had more than enough of the stuff in my lifetime and fortunately all within a half hour drive - albeit at a hard gained altitude most of the time - seems that this forum has a meltdown more so when winter channel lows are mentioned....... Direct Northerly Jet for Thursday Caingorm maximas -3 - should be fun up there Ian Ian
  12. 06Z Cumbria GEFS mean ensembles all subzero for the next fortnight. Promising ppn from the NW for Thursday as mentioned previously. And an interesting channel low for the SW - Exmoor Dartmoor and Bodmin should have a dusting. All good stuff? Ian
  13. Thought this would get Southern forum members interested for Thursday..... Us Northerners not always IMBY Just a bit further North but Exmoor should do well. Ian IAC
  14. One last look at the 06z before the 12z fun begins.... Considering what has gone on - encouraged by this for the 3rd if you are lucky to have the altitude in Scotland the Pennines East Cumbria and N Yorks. Did somone mention an event for next Thursday - as I am struggling to see one. Ian IAC
  15. ........just think of all that sun you get EML Yes the models last week had ppn snow progged for today which turned this MB into a frenzy - OK not the promised snowmaggedon but METO has a ppn band moving down tonight mainly topping off at 2k ASL - models look promising for next week maybe a dry easterly after initial rain but at least there is a festive feel to it. Ian IAC
  16. Meto - Cumbria for 1-12-12 "......Cold in the west but more cloudy in the east, especially at first, with perhaps some snow showers. Extensive and persistent hill fog in the east coupled with snow showers will cause very poor visibility during the morning. Northerly winds 25-30mph with gusts of 35-40mph adding to the chill effect. Freezing level around 200-300m........" Thats not a mild outlook...! and a welcome change from what we have had the last couple of weeks and it is certainly not tropical out there tonight. Chance of a dusting for the tops - definately not snowmaggedon for the UK though. Ian
  17. Find you lot very knowlegable and helpful from a mountain weather aspect Gibby is right the true "enthusiasts" are whatever the weather so to speak - yes the froth was in evidence last week and I as many got sucked into excellent model potential. Its just that abled bodied folk in the North are fairly lucky and can have a winter event albeit an effort to attain 2000 ft plus altitude to experience them.Thought I might just forget FI in future and only look at T37 charts - but I guess I can't resist it..... Apologies for OT. Once again thanks. Ian IAC
  18. Lordy! - back off with the highlight pen......
