  1. Well i can't believe he would go that far ahead and with UKMO's own model which only goes upto T+144 hrs changing alot in the past week i find that very irresponsible forecasting indeed, i hope some of the higher ups have a good word with him, UKMO was going for the atlantic unsettled westerly spell to continue until it eventually brought in that block to the NE halting their progression.
  2. Yes his forecast looks completely wrong i've barely recorded 10C on a few days and only very briefly(might be a sensor location problem as some official sites near me didnt record 10C on that day), blowtorch in winter means temps consistently around 14C with very mild dew points and not dropping much by night we haven't had any of that and with the current model output for February it looks a million miles away from blowtorch sw'lys.
  3. Wow some incredibly thick fog this morning and everything is white with frost , i noticed yesterday how dry the countryside is even in low lying areas after the so called very unsettled spell, the fronts have all moved through quickly in the midlands and because we are in cool zonal phase it just isnt delivering the high rainfall amounts TM warm sectors would, actually last September saw much worse than this winter with severe flooding washing roads away nothing like that this winter and in December/January you would expect flooding as the highest rainfall occurances occur in these two months.
  4. Brrr feels freezing tonight down to 0C here already with 10 more hours of cooling left, i don't have central heating on so i feel the cold in my house, thats why i feel so many moan it's not cold as they sit in warm centrally heated rooms with the heating on full blast
  5. Yes roll on spring and the variety it brings, not that it guarantees persistent warm dry weather just interesting weather chances with wintry weather chances until Mid May, i really like Aprils showery setups with warm sunny periods then temps plummeting under hail showers. So you're expecting a February around 3C above average sorry but with Februaries current signals that is more unlikely than one 3C below average one near average to slightly below has a much higher chance of coming off.
  6. A cold frosty night for the midlands down to -2C in parts a nice start to the above average week
  7. -2C last night and only 4C today, i thought winter was over early January
  8. Cold air digging in, 2C with a gusty westerly wind is very good indeed I'm sure people will moan saying oh but its not cold enough, well in a gusty westerly wind you will not get moderate to severe frosts that is a fact, what you will get is temps near 0C with a significant wind chill making it feel very cold.
  9. Deep snow reported on higher parts of shropshire so pretty good already, first day of a change over to cold is almost always around average for most(6C max here) before slowly getting colder every day and night, it still will not record anything like as cold temperatures as the last cold spell though, a lesson to those who want westerlies instead of continental anticyclonic weather, nothing beats slack continental flows for cold in the winter, i`m hoping for some slack lows soon to allow some really cold nights and then the temps will struggle by day if fog forms.
  10. The CET will end up around 3.0C maybe slightly lower and be +1.0C below the 1971/2000 average so another below average month, it was last May since we saw a really above average month now. After all the warmth since 1988/89 you are bound to see a slow cooling so these slightly below average months are great news if you want to see a cooling trend which could go on for most of this year, i think May will be nearer to average this year than last.
  11. Brrr feels cold today in a southerly flow, just a shame it wasn't more southeasterly then it would of been colder and sunnier. Even southerly flows feel cold now
  12. Cold(-1C min) and still very foggy here, the thickest fog i've seen in an urban area this winter, seen thicker in countryside though a few weeks back, lovely weather Mild didn't last long at all.
  13. Not really any TM air is squeezed out as it reaches the UK, i classify true TM air as >546 dam and it really never makes it into inland england.
  14. http://www.climate-uk.com/graphs/0901.htm And to back my thoughts up with facts the sunshine levels are running above average so its obvious bottesford has a mild bias saying its sunny when its milder but cold is overcast. I think you'll find since the 11th when it turned milder the sunshine levels have gone way down. Also notice the lack of rainfall during the cold 11 days only 5.9mm and how the CET touched -5C at one point still running 4.4C below average so it's been a great month so far only ruined by the recent two day mild doom and gloom
  15. Well it's been a mostly cloudy damp day here and the cold spell did deliver some sunny days, not sure why you are so anti cold, lots of people enjoyed it and it will go down in memory as one of the best cold spells in a long time and be remembered by weather fans for years to come, tell me the last time the CET was 5C below in January, ages ago and probably won't be repeated for a long time. Feels chilly to me today with cool PM air, hopefully cloud will clear tonight allowing a cold frosty night and a sunny day tomorrow.
  16. Very poor mild snap already down to 4C, staying on the chilly side for the next week at least as ever any mild is in FI.
  17. LOL you`ll be lucky if it lasts until this wednesday
  18. LOL yes i knew he would be wrong when he made it, it was obvious we were in for a cold start to winter, he's keeping a very low profile lately i notice
  19. Yes and still some aren't happy with this winter i think they would still be moaning even in 1962/63 winter the 850`s weren't always that cold and temps were around 0C on some days. Ian browns forecasts looks a complete bust already, i would bin it if i was him no way will this January be record breakingly mild its just not possible with the incredibly cold start.
  20. Brrrr it feels bitter out, only -3C recorded though nothing compared to earlier this week, it's the very cold dew points and breeze picking up making it feel perishing out
  21. Nothing strange in the west midlands apart from how bitter it feels, this cold spell has probably been the best in the UK here with the lowest temps recorded in shropshire........ canal, ponds, rivers all frozen solid, pretty amazing stuff. Snowing lightly now too, not bothered though about snow as it's the very low temps that has interested me, it hasn't been boring that's for sure.
  22. 2009 will be slightly colder than 2008, i feel a very similar year coming up but with a colder start to the year, watch out for more snow/cold in April and a near average wet cloudy summer.
  23. Feeling much cooler now with much cooler dew points after some really balmy days and nights, phew it felt warm last night, once pressure rises it doesn't take long for the air to cool this time of year, thats the end of balmy double figure nights for weeks and weeks, looking very blocked indeed with a very quiet atlantic.
  24. Yes looks to me like the final figure will come in around 3.5C, i feel the 24th might come in around average as HP is going to be directly over us by tomorrow night and after a cold night fog may form and keep it pretty cold on wednesday, good news is the cloud is clearing now and it's sunny so i can't see a min of 9C tonight in the midlands like GFS is going for, outside chance of a ground frost tonight in the midlands(around 4C) if cloud doesn't come back over, BBC Ceefax page 402 is going for 6C min tonight in the west midlands which will most likely be just about right.
  25. Very mild day upto 12C and the sun has come out, feels springlike infact just like April apart from a weaker sun of course, nice relief from the very cold first half to Dec before it finishes very cold
