  1. Excellent GFS 00Z and ensembles, winter isn't over for us yet by a long shot.
  2. Yes roll on next week especially ECM 00Z, boring and overcast again, this is really getting on my nerves now this weather, even unsettled polar airstreams is going to seem a million times better than this at least nights will have more clear spells and ground frosts with a cool wind not the static temps of now with no clear spells.
  3. lol first spring thread and the models trend cold tonight, actually the weather is seasonal today i recorded 1C this morning and 9C today so that is near average for late February infact.
  4. Another dull overcast day with just fleeting glimpses of the sun, roll on spring and some nice convection.
  5. Yes a foul day overcast all day and guess what it's now raining under High pressure as a front has got stuck right in the middle over england, why do people keep saying its like spring, spring isnt dull and damp its a clear sunny season it only reached 9C here today too not the very mild people mention only 1C above average, its starting to feel chilly now too as the mild air gets sucked out of the HP cell and cooler air moves in from the west, this isnt blowtorch weather with warm TM air deep from the azores thats very mild. http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rtavn062.png
  6. Someone on TWO said today reminds them of last summer, yes it reminds me of last August, atrocious month for sunshine, today feels like that but obviously cooler.
  7. Dark and gloomy day, only springlike if you consider spring a cloudy dull season which i don't.
  8. A pretty chilly clear night got down to 3C before cloud arrived and temps rose to 5C, just shows you we aren't in the normal atlantic TM mild spell with temps around 10C at night with mild dew points.
  9. Yes i've been very satisfied by the recent amazing cold very snowy spell too and the winter in general overall, not bothered about this week to be honest, i've had enough cold weather until next winter now, though i do think we`ll see a cold/cool spring the chances of anything as good as the recent cold spell which gave places the best snow cover since Feb 1991(even bettered it in places) or the early Jan very cold dry spell are very slim, very hard to get ice days after mid Feb but nights offer the best chance of some decent frosts well into April.
  10. I must be in one of the warmest areas in the UK, 12C this afternoon  ... nothing special for mid Feb if you are in TM air but the airmass isn't that warm so that is quite impressive for so early in the year, the effects of a warming sun.
  11. Yes an excellent event last night i`m much lower than you but got heavy snow from around 9 pm to 1 am giving a very decent covering in my town as ever miles better in the countryside and high up like you are, going to drive up edge hill tomorrow night to have a look at all your snow As ever you take your pick less cold and snowy or very cold and dry like early Jan, i`ll take both nice to have both types and hopefully with HP moving in later in the week we`ll record some severe frosts, only been recording -5C at the weekend
  12. lol patience is the order of the day, i must be the only poster left who is confident of snow tonight for the midlands.
  13. Great post, other statements that have come back to haunt the poster have been "Bone dry" last September(still laugh at that one  and we then got some of the worst flooding in September in the first week(haven't seen any flooding in my area like it since) and "Winter is over in early Jan" and we got one of the snowiest weeks in a long time in the first week of Feb, not sure why they continue to make such statements.
  14. Birmingham is on the northern side of the band of precipitation so it was always going to be light this afternoon, the cold light rain will turn heavier towards evening and turn more more wintry before turning to heavy wet snow overnight with some decent accumulations likely in the midlands esp west midlands.
  15. Paul Bartlett going for possible disruption in rutland northampshire not far from me so looking great for most of us in here, this guy usually favours mild weather too so if he thinks the air is cold enough for snow i just cant understand all these the air is too mild comments in other threads, it plainly isn't, this cold air has been locked in for a week now. http://www.rutnet.co.uk/pp/gold/viewgold.asp?id=7
  16. Unbelievable another snow event four in a week  :o More heavy snow giving a nice wintry wonderland again for urban areas where it had mostly gone, countryside already had it so a nice topping for them, amazing stuff, i had to smile when i read people saying it was too warm for snow earlier. All the marginal events are going our way in the midlands like i thought they would last week, it just feels right for snow everytime a snow event is a possibility
  17. Like i said earlier town/city centres especially have a completely different climate to the countryside, you would be surprised how much colder the countryside is, i think thats why night temp averages have gone up past 40 years esp in summer because of more concrete jungles to absorb heat.
  18. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_...ings.html?day=2 EdgeHill will be fun must drive up there mid week
  19. Yes if you count a week already it could last another two weeks looking at the ensembes but yes another week is a safe bet i think after that you can't trust the models but my own personal opinion is it will last for two more weeks in the countryside. Temps are currently 3C/4C in town and city areas, 2C in more rural areas like church lawford which recorded the coldest night the other night -9.5C, some east midlands stations are around 1C, all temps cold enough for snow, i'm confident any precipitation would fall as snow or sleet this afternoon until it's dark when it'll be snow.
  20. Wow what a forecast , turnedoutniceagain is going to get hammered, i wonder if he's concerned or not, wouldn't like to be that high up that's for sure.
  21. Yesterday it got upto 4C on my thermometer in my garden but it didn't melt the snow, out of the sunlight it just won't go away that quick, we need some proper mild air for that but the air is still cold, i noticed yesterday in the countryside even bright warm sunshine wasn't noticebly melting the snow the bottom layer in the countryside was frozen solid i couldn't get my hand right down. Excellent 06Z ensembles we could have snow cover in rural areas for the next two weeks
  22. Another snow event for next saturday night on GFS 06Z We`ll be praying for spring warmth soon, the cold and snow just go on and on.
  23. Three snow events for the midlands this coming week, later today, tomorrow night and wednesday night(low risk though), tomorrow night looks best and i`m going for some very heavy snowfall in parts of the midlands, don't go out on any high routes tomorrow evening is my advice, conditions could be really bad, i think tomorrow night is being underestimated by many people, with cold air locked in place for a week now, moist atlantic air hitting this airmass and the low pulling away pretty quick pulling down another cold shot will all contribute to snow falling, i just can't see it being rain in warwickshire and surrounding areas, maybe further south. I think snow will still be around by next weekend in the countryside :o
  24. I find it very strange those who said the snow melted in the midlands, i went for a drive in the coutryside and it was still lovely & deep with lots of undisturbed snow covered fields, took lots of great photos while walking in the countryside, in the town area it was all gone apart from bits & pieces and in gardens in the shade it was all there, i think you should go out in the countryside its a different world out there compared to warm urban areas. Saw lots of snow men still intact and plenty of kids sledging on snow covered hills, very deep it is up on EdgeHill/Burton Dasset area. Even 1 or 2 miles outside of town it was completely different to the town centre i think too many of you stay in inner cities/inner towns and don't go out to discover the beautiful countryside, its a wonderful winter wonderland out there.
  25. I`m afraid someone will always miss the best/worst of it in the UK, even in the 80`s some missed out but there was no internet forums for people to come on and moan, overall thats how you have to judge it it's been one of the best wintry weeks for a long time and with the next two night bone chillingly cold with more possible snow events early next week the future looks blue not orange Skies have only just cleared here so no sun to melt any snow, temps are plummeting
