John's stream last night was amazing. Best I have ever seen and had the whole thing live, including the depressing bit afterwards, the wanton destruction.....:-(
Snowed a bit in Beverley yesterday morning but didn't lie. However, there was lying snow in Adwick-le-Street, near Doncaster (DN6) at 18:30 this evening and lots of surface water. Over on inch on many cars.
Wind has gotten up here quite a bit in the last half hour or so. Was in Keswick on Wednesday and it was wet, but nothing like this! My heart goes out to all caught up in this... Stay indoors and stay safe all!
Wind is getting strong now but nothing too alarming at the mo. Does have the 'feel' though that things are going to get bad into tonight and tomorrow. That low growl in the trees, the backing of the wind and the warmth of the air usually portends ill winds....
Shower just passing now and the sun is just peeping through. Has stuck a bit on cars and long grass but will no doubt melt again now. Still nice to see so early, although that may mean nothing in the long term...
Died just as it got here Reef and saw and heard nowt. Glad you got something from a southeasterly on a murky evening: many is the time you have moaned how the N Sea cold kills storms! Generally true in my experience but this time not: I think the darkness coming on did the job here.
Weirdly the storm to the Se of here is still showing on NW Radar as throwing out sferics but here the murk continues, although it has gone dark and begun to rain. Nevertheless I can see no lightning nor hear any thunder!
We have had the same weather as Sheffield till now but it looks like this could be about to change. The storms from the south are now crossing the Humber. Some of W-most stuff has died but building on the E side and the 500Mb vectors would seem to be taking it this way.
It would be nice to get rid of this murk with a bang!
The West of the band does not appear to be as electrically active as the East. Is this "real" or a figment of the radar coverage? I seem to remember this be
fore, with the lightning cover to the west not being the same area as the radar coverage.
Perhaps a bit too far North here but it is raining here now even though the front now appears to have moved North of us. Pretty with warm out there this evening though. Hope you guys darn staff get lots of action: starting to look good now on the radar.
There is a real squall line beginning to develop now from Rhyl to Chesil Beach. Some quite strong radar returns in NE Wales but no sferics on the maps. I wonder if this is a case of lightning not registering with the detectors as it is not CG lightning? Anyway, it will be interesting to see if this line of convection peps up like the one on the 5th July did as it moved over South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire (where else?).
Still 19°C with 72% humidity so pretty sticky this evening.
Glad you liked it :-) I have some more but this was the best one. It would have been nice to have a graduated grey filter or suchlike as it would have exacerbated the contrast but hey ho. Twas nice watch it come over though eh?
Lots of mamma here too. Very strange weather this evening: the wind is now SSE and there is a mix of clouds with virga and mamma along with AcCas round and about. A bit windier in the last hour and the temp has now dropped to 21.6°C. Pretty warm for this time of night with an ever increasing humidity.....
As promised here is a shot of the shelf cloud over Beverley earlier this evening.

This cloud connected two cells, one to the N and one to the S of me but was best defined towards the north.
