  1. Last night was a bonus fall ahead of the main event starting today. Most of it has turned to slush or melted but the proper cold air should be arriving in the next couple of hours so keep an eye on the radar for the patchy flurries to grow into something more interesting. Hopefully!
  2. Seems to be raining here now! Melting especially on tarmac surfaces but that was a nice taster for what is hopefully to come! Just need this cold air to arrive and we are good to go. I notice the north sea shower machine already cranking up around Newcastle
  3. Slow thaw now the snow has stopped. Need the sub-zero dew points to arrive ASAP to stop my covering going away! Anyone know when they are due to arrive (outside of the heavy precip?)
  4. Snow turned lighter at the moment as a bend in the streamer takes it south of me but it seems to curve back northwards near Beverley so will be watching that closely! Amazing how quickly it settled after 35mm of rain today! Big flakes just before it eased down and the view from my bedroom. Approx 2-3cm I would say depending on surface. 20210206_210918.mp4
  5. Sorry for all the videos but this is lampost watching if the highest order! 20210206_210226.mp4
  6. Streamer may be drifting south of here shortly but for now, we have a covering on all surfaces. Ventured upstairs for a better view! 20210206_205305.mp4
  7. Some flakes now here in the heavier bursts, and looking promising to our east for snow in the next half hour or so! Let's go!
  8. South Yorkshire, as always, is the place to be for easterly streamers! Which is why I prefer the uniformly scattered showers in easterlies. Should still see something here from this setup though, the wind direction varies slightly through the next 4 days, enough I hope to give everyone a hood covering. 2 inches or more is my IMBY aim. P.S. Still raining here
  9. Not an expert but I think dew points are crucial, they will be dropping so far below zero as the snow arrives that the moisture in the ground will freeze quite quickly. Plus the snow falling onto it helps lower the temperature of the water more quickly, helping it freeze even quicker. So then the snow is settling onto ice and will not melt on contact.
  10. Interestingly, just looked out to see sloppy sleet falling from this stationary band of grimness, and that's at less than100m asl! It's also feeling bitter out there already!
  11. Updated morning BBC forecast looking good both for overnight and then Sunday/Monday with the rain turning wintry this evening and then snow showers for all immediately setting in as the front clears. Looks a nasty clear patch as has been mentioned by others between the front and the showers on Sunday, but this appears to be south of the majority of us for the majority of the time. So it's looking good to me as things stand. Also, signs on the Mod that a Scandi high may be following next week, with no real surface warm up in between for us! If that happens, this will be a classic!
  12. Just saw the overnight BBC forecast with mild ramper, Darren Bett. Didn't show overnight tonight, but looked good for Sunday with plenty of snow showers piling into the region. No rain shown even on the coast so should be good for all as long as the precipitation is there! Would be nice to see some snow falling on a weekend for the first time this winter here. ?
  13. Yes underwhelming wording on the warnings, I didn't spot any mention of the snow Saturday night and then it was light snow showers giving 1-4cm on low ground for Monday, that's if you get any at all according to METO. I think I need to hear encouragement from Scott and Kasim please
  14. So ended up with about 5-6cm.on hard surfaces in cleckheaton, no grass to measure on. Reports from home are 8cm so matching the Thursday event a few weeks ago. Not bad at all! Pictures from Garforth sent by my mum and dad!
  15. Well the M1 East and North of Leeds was white over and I was the only car going south for miles which was a bit alarming. M62 not so bad, salt had melted it apart from Lane 3. At work in Cleckheaton now and similar to Garforth, there's about an inch with moderate snow falling. Looks to be some heavier stuff en route but no chance this will carry on until 11am going by the radar... Was supposed to arrive in Leeds about 3am but it was already in Edinburgh by then!
  16. 1.5cm on the wheely bins but am inch on the grass having checked both. Still coming down heavy but smallish flakes at the no.
  17. Fairly heavy when you're out on it, 1.5cm only though so far. Drive to work might not be as has as I feared. 20210202_043625.mp4
