  1. Brilliant - thanks for the info - I had long wondered how a front could be shown as warm and cold in different parts of the same front - now I know!
  2. Good idea! Yes, mw, I saw that too. Actually, can I ask a stupid question? If this is a warm front, which normally gives light ppn, how is it causing electrical storms?
  3. They use the same graphics, but, gven that Jim Bacon and (I think) Phil Garner are Weatherquest guys, I doubt they'd use MetO data, or at least, I'd expect them to put their own spin on it. In fact, thinking about it, Jools sometimes says "the computer's showing X, but actually, I think Y", which suggests that Jim and the WQ folks (including a namesake of myself) interpret it given their own data.
  4. Indeed. Do you watch Look East and the forecast therein, Paul? I think I'm right in saying that the forecast comes from Weathercast; certainly, Julie Reinger was talking about some hefty rain for the western half of the region this evening. Sorry, make that Weatherquest.
  5. OK, I suspect this would, were it not for the "current affairs" aspect of this, be better in the learner's area, but here goes: Compared to the guide in the NW guides for storm setups - Spanish Plume, how much different is the forecast situaton for tomorrow evening/Friday morning?
  6. Reminds me of the Honda ad, but better. The song is great, too.
  7. It ain't who you fancy, it's who you are that's being questioned, Coast!
  8. The two that I was aware of were the second and fourth. The second passed between here and Norwich - really threading the eye of the needle.
  9. Now saw CG bolt to the north - approx. 4-5 miles away. Heavy rain.
  10. Another fty storm coming in from the west - 2 large flashes of lightning and low, rumbling thunder.
  11. As I said in the storm reports thread, we had a light storm (but with squally rain and strong winds) around 13.40. As I type, a line of a couple or three cells is approaching from the west, I've been hearing thunder for a few minutes and just saw a flicker of lightning. Clouds very dark and angry-looking.
  12. Storm passed just south of here around 13:40 hours - saw a flash of lightning (not directly, so don't know if it was CG or IC) and heard several rumbles of thunder. Accompanied by squally winds, heavy rain and some hail.
  13. By the looks of it, the fleeting shower we had a few minutes ago has flared to the East of us. Plenty of convective cumulus around - looks interesting.
  14. A sunny period mid-morning after earlier cloud and rain didn't last - almost complete cloud cover here with light rain on and off and getting breezier.
  15. The feature in that first photo - left of centre - is that a funnel clud, or a downdraft? I'm not knowledgeable enough to know, but it's definitely a lump of cloud coming out of the main cell?
