  1. Julie Reinger on Look East going for rain on Wednesday, but getting colder - max. 5 degrees. I think WeatherQuest may be deliberately low-key on the snow risk until we get nearer the time; then again, are the models still suggesting a milder day on Wednesday anyway?
  2. Ha! Last night the Russians were predicting mental windspeeds!
  3. GFS Parallel is showing blues for 120 hours+ (sub-540 DAM). Let's hope the ECM doesn't spoil things.
  4. Two comments, one after the other - one optimistic, one pessimistic. For what little my novice's experience is worth, the high centre seemed parked for the next couple of days. EDIT - my comment refers to posts numbers 263 and 264.
  5. Started bright and sunny, clodier mid/late morning but brighter again now. Chilly, but light breeze only.
  6. Probably cold snap discussion or whatever it's called.
  7. Aren't the geopotentials too high and the HP in the wrong place?
  8. From what I've now seen of the ECM surface pressure chart, it seems to take the high away to the NNW. What effect/effects is that likely to have if true?
  9. Well, I'm a total novice, but, as no-one else has responded, here goes: Apprently ECM was showing less cold and no snow. Others were showing snow, at first midweek and after in the NE, but, during the day, this has shifted south and the potential for snow Monday evening and Tuesday (or possibly on Monday if temperatures are low enough) has appeared. Beyond that I think it's the toss of a coin. EDIT - see LomondSnowstorm above.
  10. In all fairness at the moment the worst weather looks to be in the eastern half of the country, and that (apparently - I know little LOL) is what the models are showing. If and when Atlantic lows hit cold air, all we'll hear is "Western coasts and hills", so it'll balance out.
  11. Thanks! Sounds reasonable to me. At least he isn't sticking his neck out like Kirkwood and Bett did. What I find amusing is that one or both of them must be wrong!
  12. Bright and sunny - lovely December day! Not been outside today yet but likely to be a little cooler than yesterday which was surprisingly mild for my Christmas shopping trip into Norwich.
  13. Sorry mods, not strictly on-topic, but could that have been the cause that swayed Mr Bett to predict mild weather next week? EDIT: no more posts here - promise, so thanks in advance for any replies!
  14. That's what I thought - my question was based on surprise that I should be looking for a SE'rly.
  15. So, based on that, if I want snow I need to look for south-easterlies?
  16. I do that too, and I'm surprised I haven't made the same myself...yet!
  17. Not around me you don't. Julie Reinger on Look East isd showing which wind direction for Monday? Is it a NE'rly? Nope! SW as usual! <_< Don't tell me I'm the only one around here who just can't see how such a cold, snowy event can happen in this country in mid-December?
  18. Much as everyone else is saying - lovely and sunny early, then clouded over and raining now.
  19. Well, people might think of me as a summer/thunderstorm poster here, but winter is my favourite - it's just that I'm like Kay - I read and absorb the forums but don't post much. Also, where I live there are no streetlights (about which I'm glad 99.9% of the time), but it does mean that seeing falling snow after dark is harder.
