  1. For me it has to be the Freak hail storm that hit the Ottery St Mary area of east Devon overnight 29th - 30th October for the most memorable anyway. Staying in West Hill (near Ottery) that night not being able to get to sleep until about 2:30am because of heavy hail hitting the skylight and very bright lightning/very loud thunder every 10 seconds or more frequent was quite an experience. Some of the aftermath was quite amazing too including a lane blocked by mud/hail 8 foot deep and big chunks of the bank and hedge next to the road missing. The River Otter got higher than ive ever seen it although I didn't see it at that point near its highest just saw the pics. Apparently The Kings School, Ottery recorded 187mm of rain!!! Met Office report Here Of course many homes were flooded and and lots of damage done by floods so I'm not sure if it was my favorite or not just the most memorable for most people around here! The night into the 13th December there was more flooding problems again as 40mm of rain fell onto probably frozen ground with some very heavy rain. The ice day on the last day of the year was also quite good. Snow back in April although not nearly as much as further east and it didn't really settle here was just almost the only snow we got. Just picking some examples of events I remember not sure which was my favorite but the hailstorm was definitely the most memorable and extreme and was about the only exceptional event of the year as well as being the only decent thunderstorm.

  6. A very interesting thread here SH, which i like to read through when i get the time to. Its nice to have reports from other places in the world than the UK. some great pics especially in the last report, that was a nice looking supercell. I must admit this thread sometimes makes me feel a little jealous too. wish we had more good storms here in the summer. Have a great new year
  7. After a night like yesterday - cloud constantly drifting in off the channel which stopped a frost and causing the temperature to rise to 2.9c, as we approach sunrise the sky suddenly almost completly clears but with very little time for a frost to form. Temp just dropped to 1.7c high of 2.9c at 7:42 low of 0.3c at 1 minute past midnight.
  8. Ramp level 6 - Netweather crashes!
  9. The colour of this text says a lot about the weather here today and most of the last week. As of 9:00 Temp: 7.9C Dewpoint: 6.3C Humidity: 90% Wind: Calm 0-2mph Wind dir: ESE pressure: 1034.5mb Max temp today: 9.1C @ 02:23 min temp today: 7.8C @ 08:33 High gust today: 10mph @ 02:08 Rain today: 0.0mm Average temp has been gradually getting cooler by about 0.5 - 1C for the last 5 days with little day-night variation due to the cloud and AC gloom
  10. Come on guys this is a very good LRF IMO. If you expect every little detail in a forecast like this to be correct then you must be living in la la land. Anyway here on Friday night my anemometer at the bottom of a valley and not very well positioned (being slightly sheltered from the South and NE and not as high as it should be) recorded a top gust of 42mph which although not the worst by any means is notable. we also had a fall of 40mm of rain in less than 12 hours (which probably only occurs on average once a year or less.) The weather is far too complicated to know with any certainty and detail what will happen over a whole season! Its nice to have a forecast of what might happen with the weather and well done to them for sticking your necks out and constructing a good forecast. Its more than the Met Office say anyway who just say 'Above average but less mild than last year' don't want to sound like I'm having a rant just trying to post my thoughts and don't want to offend anyone. I meant to say this earlier but a nicely put together forecast which is coming along very well so far. I know I couldn't have made a forecast like this and if I had it would have most likely gone quite wrong. Be interesting to see if the rest of the forecast verifies as January in particular sounds quite interesting.

In fact November came in just above average here.. last time I saw settling snow here was March 2006 which was just a dusting. before that Nov 05 was quite good in places round here.

  18. This morning was quite interesting as I think we had a small case of freezing rain/sleet here because it started raining with a bit of sleet mixed in about 6am and brought the temperature up from around -3C to 1C however the ground was still cold which meant that cars and roads ended up with a thin layer of ice on them in places. quite dangerous on the roads I would guess for the short while it lasted and you couldn't tell what was water and what was ice at times. it had melted by around 10am I think now its cold wet and miserable here. temp: 5.2C Dewpoint: 4.0C Humidity: 92% Wind: calm Pressure: 1003.6mb rain rate: 1.0 mm/hr Max temp today: 6.6C @ 11:58 Min temp today: -3.2C @ 03:50 High gust today: 19mph @ 12:08 Rain today: 7.6mm

Now clear and calm with an air frost already formed and a temp of -0.7C. as of 7:20pm Temp: -0.7C Humidity: 89% Dewpoint: -2.3C Wind: calm 0mph 'gusting' 2mph Pressure: 1028.8mb High temp today: 7.3C @ 13:30 Low temp today: -2.2C @ 06:43 Max gust today: 22mph @ 10:25 rain today: 0.0mm
  21. This is Amaising! Thunderstorm here with lightning about every 10 seconds with incredible Hail! had about 20 mins of heavy hail earlier which left it all white outside! then it eased to heavy rain and now back to incredible hail again which is stopping and starting in short bursts. lightning getting quite clost with loud thunder! im about 3 miles from my own house staying at friends which also means i dont have my camera or readings from my weather station! 2 really close strikes now with thunder a split second after lightning! using laptop unpluged and i think its bye till this is over!
  22. Dry and bright with some sun atm after yesterdays 38mm of rain here. The river Otter has gone down a lot but the river Exe is still very high this morning http://eathorvertonwebcam.org.uk/index2.html thats a great webcam to see the height of the river Exe, yesterday evening it was over the fields you can see in the corner of cam 2! Stats now as of 9:00 Out temp: 14.6C Dew point: 12.8 Humidity: 89% Pressure: 992.9 hpa Wind: 3 gust 6mph (S) Rain today: 0.0mm
  23. Yep can confirm that as it runs about 50 - 100 meters behind my house! been some really torrential downpours today. Here's some pics i've taken today - taken directly off my camera so hard to pick the best ones. These were taken about 4:30 this afternoon and the river has come up more since then taken from my house a bit later on Tried to take pictures a short while ago of the river and just down the lane from me where the lane is under more than 2 foot of water from the river - but it was too dark then so they didn't come out very well. 38.0mm of rain here since midnight :o Edit: repeated an image twice and added the wrong image :o
  24. I don't have much to show for any thunderstorms around here... mainly because there haven't been any good night time storms since summer 2006 here. this is a freeze frame from a storm near here sometime in June but that's all ive managed to capture so far. The quality isn't great.
