  1. Hello there reef, I'd be very interested to know how things go in Hull, due to it being so near the coast. Would be nice to know if you get anything laying, be sure to let us all know how the snow progresses! Yes, that mild sector is a thorn in the side. Though I'm quite hopeful that the uppers shouldn't get higher than -3 so that the sleet that may fall maybe more of a snow mix, and any potential cover could remain. Yes, I know how you feel. Remember the event before Christmas (the snow to rain one)? The national forecast seemed convinced most places north of the Wash might see snow, but it was just rain here. The East Mids local forecast (with good old Des Coleman!) was consistent in forecasting rain then. I might be more inclined to follow them! Ah, you're favoured! Hopefully the very slight altitude (about 150m is that?) may give you the edge in the mild sector! Fingers crossed!
  2. I don't think there's been a flake in the city of Nottingham! There has been in the Peak District and other outlying areas, but not here. You'll be one of the first in the firing line as this comes in! Would be lovely, wouldn't it? Most parts of the country seem to be desperate for just that something special this time!
  3. Would be nice! I'm sure there are many round here that could do with a good fall! Just from this winter, everywhere else has had a fall, though Nottingham always seems to miss it, guess the same for the other cities, Leicester, Derby, Hull. I hear Sheffield may have had some though...
  4. Oooh, if only! You should tell the Met Office - light snow showers forecast Sunday night across the East Midlands region, no doubt similar for our friends slightly further north. Their Monday to Wednesday forecast: Meto links East Midlands: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/em/...st_weather.html Yorks and Humber: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/yh/...st_weather.html
  5. Well, my opinion is Herts to Lincs should be part of East Midlands, Oxfordshire to Cheshire as West Midlands and Hampshire should go in the south east group.
  6. Well, just to start this one off. Would like to add S.Yorks and Humberside to this to make the area worthwhile? Let me know if anyone wants me to expand this to a greater area.
  7. I was thinking East Midlands, Humberside and South Yorks. What do you think, shall we?
  8. Will be gutted if back home in Dorset they get more snow than in Nottingham! (And before anyone asks, Dorset is South West in my book)
  9. Lyrics in title from "Unfinished Business" by White Lies. Well, thought I'd enter the realms of blog on this website just to put a few of my thoughts in a more serious and detailed context than I would otherwise. I'd rather not think where to start. But there's so much going on in my head right now, something's got to be written. Recession, turbulence back home, my degree course, my music, my friends (who haven't been great at living up to the title recently). I think I'll start with the latter, it came first. Charlie (that's a girl) came to visit at the last weekend. She's been a really good mate to me, absolute rock when I'm down, and I've been her equivalent in her more prevalent rough times. But she was odd to me. She could be laughing along with my jokes one minute, always looking round whenever anything was said as if to gain my approval, but the next, picks out the tiniest faults - such as saying I've been grumpy towards her. And complaining about "all this physical contact" which went completely against everything she's said or done in the past. One of our mutual friends (her best friend) told me that she'd told her (if that makes sense) that she fancies me. But after the act at the weekend, I don't know if I could stand her. I thought it would be lovely, one day, when she's at uni in Nottingham (a possibility) that we could, but would she be like this? I dunno...it's not made my mind a happier place. If I were asked now, I'd happily say no. I find out one of my mother's friends (and mine) has been sacked, or officially "forced to retire" due to completely unfounded accusations. I'm fuming. This man was the nicest person to anyone for who he worked for (a handiman in an East Dorset nursing home), always being praised by residents, relative and colleagues alike. For them to say "we've had complaints" when "sacking" him smaks of ignorance and desperation. It sickens me. Other, kind of recession related factors, are affecting my family, but I don't want to detail that, just too personal, I'm sorry. Had a nice argument with my best mate at uni - because he argued with a bouncer who was asking me for ID. How bloody minded can you get? Again, that's not helped at all. If anyone reads this, do let me know. I just needed to get a real load off. Sorry guys! Which begs the question - why do people regard me as one of the most positive people they know? As one of my coursemates put it "I miss your relentless good moods" when we were on holidays. Oh for a holiday now. Oh for summer, Dorset, cricket and the beach. And maybe, much happier times! Jon
  10. Quote Darren Bett on Weatherview just now: "Those winds now picking up from the east, never a good direction at this time of year." I'm sure many here would disagree! What exactly is a good direction for him at this time of year? Dear me...
  11. Steady rain in Nottingham, very cold also. That's my take of getting soaked in Market Square this evening, waiting for a mate, only to later find out he wasn't gonna be meeting up there this week because of exams. Next to no chance I was going to Trent Bridge alone.
  12. I might well do, I reckon I'd probs be over that way (Allington Ave.) sometime next week for revision, could give it a look! See if it compared with Sandbanks in Poole (which is just a bit special)!
  13. Ah, that was on Wednesday. I'd had a massive hike from mine to the QMC to return a library book, then off to a friend's to revise with her. Just walking up that road (and this is midday) just felt colder. Like I said, might have been me. Didn't realise those houses were the nice ones...never seen 'em myself. Still sunny this side of Derby Road!
  14. The light shining into our house is blinding! What's going on with this?!?! By the way, you might just be right about that road up to the Park being colder at the top - I obscurely felt colder as I went up that road the other day. Maybe it was my imagination though...
  15. Great for you guys! I'd love it! Nothing like that in Nottingham...t'was a bit breezy earlier in the evening, but now it's just still. Welcome to the UK's non-weather capital!
  16. I shouldn't have provoked you! Every time I post on here I'm gonna get some student banter back, wherever it's to! And I needn't post obs either as we have a Lenton correspondent!
  17. Has it not been colder? I thought it must have been! Must bring my thermometer back...or make my decent one work again! Oh and to keep properly on topic...frost didn't lift round here (East Dorset) all day on anything that was mildly north facing or our garden...I've seen ice in car parks and on roads (unusual given my lifetime/location!)
  18. I think the figure of 1.7 degrees is referring to the first part of the month, though it is very poorly worded and there is no definite limit on what this "first part of the month" is (it could well have been the first few night-time hours or something). Would have also been nice to have the average for the whole of the month present, seems a tiny bit selective to me, that.
  19. This could have been an interesting one... http://www.bbc.co.uk/dorset/content/image_...allery.shtml?19
  20. Having checked the archive, it seems Telfords were the unit of exaggeration. Is it an SI unit?
  21. I've been longing to see this thread for weeks now! This was so much fun to read in winters past! Though, I guess that the alerts are in much more advanced phases at the current time? I think you could claim Level 4 Ramps at a push at the moment! But thanks so much for resurrecting this thread! Brilliant!
  22. It'll depend whether most of us in the West Country actually believe that it'll happen! There's no snow in these parts even in winter, let alone now! :o
  23. I got a shock just checking the forecast for my location (BH31) to see a heck of a lot more precipitation forecast and lower temperatures! Having checked the forecast for Norwich as well, seems the roles have been reversed! Is this now more of a western thing? If so, that's great! I've not seen snow in this part of Dorset for ages!!! Jon
  24. I'd be inclined to agree, but it did snow on the day of my driving test, 3rd Jan this year, in Bournemouth, albeit for 10mins...and they weren't the most impressive flakes, but it's some form of snow and for Bournemouth, that's impressive! Jon
